2 Course Description This five-day course is designed to help participants learn concepts of participatory project management, within the context of social and community development. The course is a blend of the Project Management Institute (PMI) methodology and participatory approaches in the management of development projects. The course is in complete compliance with the PMI Guidebook, the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK ) 5th Edition. PM4D will cover PMI s processes: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control, and closing projects; focusing on the ten knowledge areas essential to project management interwoven with participatory approaches to management. This project management course, based on systems thinking, provides comprehensive training for beginners, mid-level and senior-level development professionals. After taking this introductory course, participants would be able prepare for the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification examination. This project management course is organized to follow the path of a normal project throughout its lifecycle. Further, the course will provide in-depth knowledge of tools, techniques, methodologies, processes and best practices to manage social sector as well as infrastructure projects.

3 2015 Project Management for Development Training Course Objectives To provide a framework for structuring the Project Management Body of Knowledge to understand basic concepts of participatory project management, project development and project life cycles To identify the most generally accepted practices within the discipline of participatory project management To learn tools, techniques, best practices, methodologies and processes of participatory as well as PMI, project management To learn and apply five process groups, ten knowledge areas and 47 processes proposed by the PMI to the management of development sector projects To learn the basics of community and social mobilization/development through participatory projects.

4 Target Audience 2015 Project Management for Development Training The training workshop is primarily designed for representatives from governments, project teams, NGOs, foreign missions, multi and bi-lateral donors/ development organizations, financial institutions, consultancies, academia, armed forces, etc., who are directly or indirectly associated with the management of development projects in any region of the world. Format The course will include instructor presentations, case studies, individual and group exercises and group presentations. Certificates will be awarded on the final day of the course to those in full attendance.

7 Azhar M Khan 2015 Project Management for Development Training Dr. Azhar M Khan has over 30 years experience as an international expert managing social sector and infrastructure projects. He is an engineer, development economist and management specialist. He has worked as the National Program Manager for a large UNDP project and has developed more than a hundred participatory development projects. He is an adjunct faculty member at SKEMA Business School, Lille France where he teaches courses in Project Management, Project Finance and Production Management. He has awarded 14 PhDs in the field of project management. He is a fellow of LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development) USA, Salzburg Seminar Austria, Wilton Park England, Brown University, USA and School of International Training, Vermont USA. He is an international trainer for Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification and also conducts management and personnel development trainings all over the world. Dr. Khan has co-authored a book HRD Practices in the Public Sector of Pakistan: Federal Government Project Management System. He is writing another book on Financial Analysis of Projects. He has worked in governments, the UNDP, NGOs, the corporate sector and in academia.
