3 CONTEXT FOR THE TASK Students develop an understanding of the nature and functions of law through the examination of the law-making processes and institutions. OUTCOMES BEING ASSESSED P1 identifies and applies legal concepts and terminology P2 describes the key features of Australian and international law P3 describes the operation of domestic and international legal systems P4 discusses the effectiveness of the legal system in addressing issues P6 explains the nature of the interrelationship between the legal system and society P8 locates, selects and organizes legal information from a variety of sources including legislation, cases, media, international instruments and documents IN ORDER TO UNDERTAKE THIS TASK YOU WILL NEED TO: Refer to your class and homework on the topic. Reflect on information and discussions undertaken in class. Use any library time given to undertake guided research into aspects of the task. 4 TASK RUBRIC You will be assessed on your ability to: Demonstrate an understanding of relevant legal information and issues Illustrate your answer with examples from one or more of the following: legislation, documents, treaties, cases, media reports Communicate using legal terminology and concepts relevant to domestic or international law Present a sustained, logical and well-structured answer to the question. THE TASK Research a treaty, convention or declaration to which Australia is a signatory in one of the following areas: q Intellectual property q The environment q Refugees q Indigenous peoples q International crime. You should address the following points: q The name and major area covered. q The purpose and time frame. q The major features. q Australia s involvement. q Success or failure. Other directions: 1. You may bring into class and use one side of an A4 page of typed notes. 2. Your notes are to be clearly typed in no smaller than 10-point font. 3. Securely fastened to your notes should be a bibliography as per College guidelines. 4. These notes are to be submitted with your in-class task. 5. All work must be your own and proper referencing should be included in your notes. 6. Your notes should be clearly labeled with your student number.
