3 Background Essex CAPI service established in October #ihoplancs2015 #childrenofoffenders Supports children, young people and families affected by imprisonment including those from military backgrounds who are serving their sentence at the Military Correction Training Centre (MCTC) Colchester. Support is provided in family homes and in the community and through partnership working with a broad range of agencies including Schools, Early years settings, Health teams, Probation services, DWP, Family Solutions and Social Care.
4 Original aims of the service #ihoplancs2015 #childrenofoffenders 1. To establish a referral pathway to enable professionals to refer children, young people and their families for support in the home, school or community 2. To establish strong links and provide services and projects at the MCTC and within prisons including HMP & YOI Chelmsford and Holloway. 3. To establish a Steering Group, to enable professionals to discuss services, gaps in provision, data sharing and to work with local boards including Essex County Council and Children s Partnership Board. 4. To provide training and resources to professionals to raise awareness of the effects on families and in particular children and young people. 5. To develop a robust and meaningful outcomes/outputs system that demonstrated clear achievements and changes for service users.
5 MA Multi-agency Working Family Support and Referral Pathway The Essex CAPI Service established a cluster model enabling agencies to share information and joint cases. Over 150 referrals to date. Referring agencies: Family Solutions, CAMHS, Health, Schools, Early Years, Children s Centres, MARAC, HMP Chelmsford, Probation, Ormiston Family Trust and self referrals.
6 MA Multi-agency Working Working with HMP Induction talks and support through family days at HMP & YOI Chelmsford resulting in referrals for community support for families. Referrals from HMP Holloway. Military Correction Training Centre Colchester (MCTC) The Essex CAPI Service offers a range of support for detainees including: Fortnightly talks with detainees around family advice and support CAPI staff co-plan and deliver family days at the establishment
7 OC Demonstrating Outcomes and Reviewing Challenges Multi-agency Steering Groups bring together professionals to discuss current services for families, gaps in provision and opportunities for joint support. Two Steering Groups look at effective ways to gather and share local data. Information is shared across agencies and upwards to Essex County Council, Essex Children s partnership Board and local Safe Guarding teams.
8 SR Sharing of Resources and Best Practice Training Courses for Professionals Hidden Sentence course Since October courses delivered with over 300 professionals attending. Bespoke workshops and courses also available to suit individual agencies needs Follow on training to further support professionals who work directly with children is being developed. Promotion of i-hop and other organisations
9 CF Involving Children and Young People Children and young people asked for their views on the type of support they would like to receive Consulted on the development of their action plan and what they want to achieve Have the opportunity to be listened to and heard without feel of being judged.

11 Future plans HMP Children s and Families service pathway with Ormiston Families Trust and HMP Chelmsford offering community-based support. Preparing for release programme with probation/crc teams as part of the Transforming Rehabilitation programme. Whole family service funded by Chelsea Community Football. Clacton Police pilot Custody referral pathway to offer early support to families going through the charge/court process. MA SR
12 Future plans continued Single Point of Contact (SPOC) and Charter A network of professionals designated as the SPOC within their own service, school or agency. Court Work with the local Crown Court and Magistrate courts to look at support for families, young people and children when attending court. Workshops for Judges and other court staff early Children s Voice MA SR OC CF Production of resources written by children and young people for other children going though similar situations. Partnership work with local prisons to produce a revised version of Visiting a family member in prison
