3 OFFICE O F RESIDENCE LIFE Graduate Student Housing University Apartments University-operated apartments are an extension of housing for undergraduate and graduate students served on the Chicago campus. With locations nearby Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn, University Apartments are an integral part of the University s student housing offerings. All complexes are fully furnished and offer one or two bedroom units, shared by Saint Xavier students. The University has dedicated professional staff members to serve students residing in University Apartments. Graduate student housing in one or two bedroom units offer private or semi-private accomodations at the Riviera Complex located in Evergreen Park. Family housing is not currently available. Accommodations for graduate and undergraduate students are for individual students only. 4 Rates The graduate student housing term is for 50 weeks (August 15-July 31). Billing will be divided into two terms: Fall Term (weeks 1-24) and Spring Term (weeks 25-50). Housing fees must be paid in its entirety by the time of move in, or a deferred payment plan including tuition and fees may be arranged by contacting the Office of the Bursar, WAC A-105, (773) A non-refundable deposit of $650 is due at the time of contract. This deposit will be applied toward the housing fee balance due. A one-time damage deposit of $100 will be billed upon contract assignment. Participation in a board plan is mandatory. Graduate Students will be billed for the Bronze meal plan each semester ($1335; $2670 annually). One Bedroom Graduate Housing Rate: $10350 (annually); Fall Term= $5175, Spring Term= $5175 Two Bedroom Graduate Housing Rate: $8500 (annually); Fall Term= $4250, Spring Term= $4250 Cancellation Contract cancellation penalties are as follows: $650 non-refundable deposit. This deposit will not be applied to tuition charges or be refunded. payment of all Fall Term charges. penalty charge of $650, but will not be responsible for Spring Term charges.
5 Parking and Transportation Parking at all University Apartment complexes will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents register their vehicle with SXU Public Safety. The cost to register a vehicle for residents who live in the University Apartments is $150. This allows the vehicle to be parked on the main campus during business hours and overnight at the apartment complex. Apartment residents will be issued a commuter parking pass and the appropriate location stickers (Village of Evergreen Park). Vehicles may be towed off of the property or streets if proper permits are not displayed. Students are responsible for obtaining the appropriate permits. The University is not responsible for vehicle or guest tows that have not been properly registered with Public Safety or that violate the established parking guidelines. The Department of Public Safety offers shuttle service at all locations with stops several times daily. The full schedule can be viewed at keyword: Shuttle. Visitors parking at University Apartments do so at their own risk and should be considerate of the other tenants of the buildings and should not take up parking spaces for an extended period of time. Overnight visitor parking is not permitted in any of the University Apartment lots. Location Parking Details: The Riviera permit, must be displayed to park in the lot and/or for street parking. (The cost of the EP sticker is included in the permit fees and can only be purchased independently if the vehicle is registered in Evergreen Park.) Evergreen Park vehicle sticker.
6 Graduate Student Apartment Living General Information Graduate residents of University Apartments do not have to vacate their apartments during University breaks (Thanksgiving, Spring and Easter). Residents may continue residency over the semester closing (fall to spring) provided that they are registered for the future semester by the final day of the term. Any student who has not completed their course registration will be required to check out and turn in their apartment within 72 hours of the final day of the term. Requests for special consideration may be submitted in writing to the Director of Residence Life. Residents may not remove University furniture from the apartment for any reason. Each resident is responsible for any damage to the apartment the Office of Residence Life in Rubloff Hall and should be returned there when the lease has ended. The duplication or unauthorized possession of apartment keys is a violation of the Code of Student Conduct. Utilities and Services Included Comcast Services Cable and internet service is provided to all University Apartments through Comcast Xfinity. Each unit receives one modem. Apartment residents may use a wireless router in their apartment; however, they are not provided by the University. Each one bedroom unit receives two digital converter boxes and Comcast issued remotes. Two bedroom units receive three digital converter boxes and Comcast issued remotes. Apartment residents are not authorized to add additional services, including but not limited to: pay per view features, additional digital converter boxes or system upgrades of any kind (to cable or Internet).
7 Troubleshooting Comcast Issues: (800) Service Interruption: When unable to resolve a service issue through contacting Comcast, service interruptions must be reported to the Office of Residence Life through the CLAWS (Self-Service) Work Order System. Residents may not contact Comast directly to schedule service. All communication must be routed through SXU. Residents are responsible for the equipment installed to their unit and may not remove any of these Comcast items from the apartment. Removal or damage to the equipment will result in full replacement cost billed to the Student(s) Account. Improper use of these services or any unauthorized access to change the account status in any manner will result in disciplinary action through the Dean of Students Office with the possibility of termination of service and/or restitution for any balance due above the monthly University contract in addition to administrative fines. Account numbers or account information shared with residents for Internet connection purposes is done solely for the purpose of establishing a connection to the Internet. Improper use of the account number/information may result in disciplinary action. ComEd & Nicor Gas and electric service are included in the semester fees. Responsible use of service is expected. Excess usage will be reviewed by the University and the student may be responsible for the charges. Telephones Students are responsible for providing their own telephone service.
8 Laundry On-site laundry rooms with washers and dryers are available at each University Apartment complex. The Riviera Complex has coin-operated machines. Mail All residents last names need to appear on your mailbox in order to receive mail. Simply tape or put in a slip of paper in the area given on the mail box so the mail-person can see it. If your last name is not on the box, your mail will be returned after four days. All units should of Residence Life. Maintenance Requests Maintenance requests are to be submitted through the Residence Life menu in CLAWS (Self-Service) on my.sxu.edu. Please contact the SXU Office of Residence Life at (773) or reslife@sxu.edu with any emergency issues. University staff members work with the individual property owners to address apartment issues. After submitting the request, please allow two to three days for work to be completed. If there is no resolution after three days, please contact the Office of Residence Life directly. Emergency Contacts All University Apartment Residents should dial 911 if there is an emergency of any kind. Saint Xavier University Public Safety can be reached at (773) to provide assistance at any time. Fire Safety Be sure to familiarize yourself with all emergency routes and locations of fire extinguishers in your respective apartment complex. It is also recommended that you purchase a small home use fire extinguisher from a hardware store.
