5 Yosemite 101: OS X Support Essentials Course Length 3 Days TE7107_ OS X Yosemite Support Essentials is a three-day, hands-on course that provides an in-depth Course Description: exploration of troubleshooting on OS X Yosemite. This course is designed to give students a tour of the breadth of OS X Yosemite and the best methods for effectively supporting users of OS X Yosemite systems. The course is a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises that provide real-world experience. Please note that this course does not include the associated exam cost and it is not proctored during class. Not all attendees require or desire to take the exam and the course requires the full three days to cover all content. This course is designed for Help desk specialists, technical coordinators, service technicians, and Who Should Attend: others who support Mac users; technical support personnel in businesses that use Mac computers, and technical coordinators or power users who manage networks of computers running OS X, such as technology specialists who manage networks or computer labs. 7 Yosemite : Apple Certified Technical Coordinator Boot Camp Course Length 5 Days TE7109_ The Apple Certified Technical Coordinator (ACTC) Boot Camp is a combined delivery of the Course Description: Yosemite 101 and Yosemite 201 courses. This hands-on course provides an in-depth exploration of functionality and troubleshooting on OS X and the best methods for effectively supporting users of OS X systems. This course gives technical coordinators and entry-level system administrators the skills, tools, and knowledge to implement and maintain a network that uses OS X Server. Students learn how to install and configure OS X Server to provide network-based services, such as file sharing, authentication, and printing. Tools for efficiently managing and deploying OS X and software updates are also covered. The associated ACTC exams are included in the cost of class. This course is a compressed delivery of two courses, so only those already familiar with the concepts Who Should Attend: and comfortable working at a quick pace should attend. 8 Introduction to the Command-Line Mindset on OS X (CLI 100) Course Length 2 Days TE7113_ Course Description: Prerequisites: This two-day course is designed specifically to introduce you to The Command-Line Mindset, where you will learn to wield the power that is available only through the command-line. After establishing a solid foundation, we'll explore command line tools to help with administration and management of your Mac. This class is designed for help desk specialists, technical coordinators, service technicians, and others Who Should Attend: who support Mac users. This class is also for the benefit of technical support personnel in businesses that use Macs for general productivity or creative design, as well as technical coordinators or power users who manage networks of computers running Mac OS X. Before attending this course, students should have knowledge of Mac OS X and basic computer navigation. Benefits of Attendance: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: Utilize the command line, including advanced options not available in GUI tools Create basic scripts Course Outline: UNIX Shells The UNIX shell is the portal into the command line. In this chapter, we learn what a shell is, and how to obtain one. Shell Environment, Part 1 Once you obtain a shell, it's nice to get comfortable in its environment--learn what is available to you, and learn the basics of commands. Filesystem, Permissions, and Monitoring Although Mac OS X is based on UNIX, the view of the file system and permissions from the command-line is a bit different than the view from the Finder. Learn how the Finder and UNIX filesystem and permissions interact, and also how to monitor UNIX processes and view files from the command line. Documentation, Searching, and Editing The main skill to obtain in your quest for a command-line mindset is to know that you can't possibly know everything there is to know, and that you will need to look things up in documentation. This chapter explains how documentation works in the command-line, including main pages, searching, and other cool tricks, including editing text files using only the command line.
