3 CENTER FOR ENGINEERING & INTERDISCIPLINARY PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION CEIPE The Center for Engineering and Interdisciplinary Professional Education (CEIPE) at University of Kansas Continuing Education provides aerospace short courses, online engineering technology certificate programs, engineering management courses and certificates, interdisciplinary engineering short courses and conference management services for working professionals within the United States, online and at the worksites of global engineering communities. Global services CEIPE develops and delivers unique and industry-relevant programs and services that meet the needs of the global professional engineering workforce. It helps engineers, technicians and managers develop expertise in their fields and excel at their jobs. Professional development The University of Kansas engineering, technology and management short courses provide participants with tools and techniques to become more productive and effective at their jobs and enhance the competitive advantage of their organizations. The faculty consists of present and retired professionals from the industry, government, military and academia, who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that they share with the participants. Professional development conferences and public courses also offer opportunities for networking, partnerships and collaborations. 5 AEROSPACE SHORT COURSES Serving the aerospace community for 35 years The Aerospace Short Course Program at the University of Kansas Continuing Education (KUCE) has been serving the worldwide aerospace community for the last 35 years. It provides non-credit short courses in aerospace engineering, aircraft design, flight control systems design, aircraft compliance and safety, avionic hardware and software, and aerospace systems and process management. Founded in 1977 to address the professional development needs of the aircraft designers in the North American aerospace industry, this program has evolved into one of the most respected non-credit professional development programs in the worldwide aerospace and defense industries. Masterful instructors With an instructor pool derived from industry, academia and government, the program provides publicly offered short courses within the United States and in-house short courses across the globe. There is a strong international presence in the program s public courses; non-u.s. participation is 36 to 40 percent, and to date, participants from 56 countries have attended its public courses. Besides the 40-plus public short courses, the program conducts more than 50 in-house courses every year. Almost half of these in house classes are conducted worldwide, specifically in Europe, South America, Asia and Australia. Unique in four ways The KU Aerospace Short Course Program: 1. 9 ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY ONLINE Engineering Technology Online Certificate Program CEIPE offers online technical certificate programs that allow attendees to learn from proven instructors in their fields. Students get the same training these instructors present in their live seminars without having to travel or spend a large amount of time away from their workplace. All classes are delivered as live webinars, so students have the opportunity to interact with the instructor. In addition, webinars are recorded so students can view missed sessions or watch a session again. Upon successful completion of the program modules, participants are awarded a certificate documenting their specialized education and knowledge in their technical field. These certificates serve as evidence of the participant s qualifications and competence to present or potential employers. 11 ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE Preparing for leadership roles The Engineering Management Certificate is an interdisciplinary program specifically designed for engineers and scientists who want to augment their technical undergraduate base with management and leadership skills. The program prepares attendees for leadership roles in the engineering field with advanced training in project management, finance, business development and marketing, leadership, law for the design professional, and construction management. The certificate program goes beyond the technical skills of engineering to help students become proficient in building collaborative effort within a workgroup, presenting their company and products to build sales relationships, and applying analytical thought to the management process. Students who complete the certificate gain a unique set of management skills uncommon to traditional engineers or scientists. Customized for you This certificate truly is about what your company needs. In addition to the course subjects, specialized topics such as environmental issues, business relationships and selling skills can be added to customize the program for you. All techniques presented are fieldproven and derived from successful implementations. Case exercises are adapted from real situations and projects. Instructors teach in the University of Kansas Engineering Management master s degree program and have years of experience in management, consulting, and research in engineering and engineering-related marketing, law, management, and business development. Short Courses on Supply Chain Management Targeted toward industrial engineers and leaders of supply chain and lean initiatives, the CEIPE warehouse and distribution center layout seminars prepare participants for successful planning and expansion of warehouses and supply chain facilities, optimizing storage efficiencies in such facilities while building flexibility and reducing costs. 13 ONLINE ON-SITE VIDEO CONFERENCES Not everybody is able to get away from work and family for three to five days to take a course. CEIPE has many options that allow attendees to get quality continuing education while remaining at home or at work. For individuals, there are online course offerings and live Web-based lectures. For companies wanting to provide training opportunities for employees, we can bring courses to your location or provide video conferencing services. Online courses CEIPE offers asynchronous and scheduled course offerings. Our online aerospace short courses usually involve a small project and can be completed in the student s own time during a six-month period. Technical courses, such as those in the engineering technology certificate program and engineering management courses, are usually scheduled as weekly one-hour sessions that occur outside work hours. Both provide valuable opportunities to learn, while saving costs associated with traveling to a course location, and minimizing time away from work and family. On-site training Bringing courses to your company saves valuable employee time and travel expenses. 15 THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS KU s rich history Opened in 1866, the University of Kansas (KU) is a comprehensive educational and research institution with 31,000 students, more than 2,200 faculty members and 10,000 staff and administrators. The student body includes 6,000 graduate students and 3,000 medical students. KU has more than 170 fields of study and a number of federally funded national research centers housed on campus.
