1 PARENT/STUDENT COURSE INFORMATION BUSINESS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ADVANCED SOFTWARE AND GAME DEVELOPMENT GRADES Counselors are available to assist parents and students with course selections and career planning. Parents may arrange to meet with the counselor by calling the school's guidance department. The Business and Information Technology (Business & IT) program in Virginia Beach is an important segment of the total educational program. Students receive instruction in skills associated with a number of business and information technology areas and have the opportunity to practice life-management skills. All students are provided opportunities to complement their academic preparation through the Business and Information Technology program. The Business & IT program provides opportunities to achieve competencies and industry certifications for a career, to pursue further education, and for personal use. Students are exposed to Virginia s Workplace Readiness Skills and have the opportunity to take an assessment which validates the student knowledge in each skill area. Those who are completing a two-year sequence have the opportunity to verify their knowledge of the workplace readiness skills through an industry assessment. COURSE DESCRIPTION Students will use various game engines and tools to develop games and mobile applications that can be used on devices such as, smart phones and tablet computers. Participants are introduced to logical thinking, good programming style, and object oriented programming concepts, using the Java programming language. Certification: Students will prepare for the National Occupational Competency Institute (NOCTI) assessment in computer programming, and be eligible to sit for the AP Computer Science Exam. STUDENT ORGANIZATION FBLA The Future Business Leaders of America is the co-curricular organization for secondary Business and Information Technology students. The organization enhances occupational preparation for students by helping them attain the following goals: leadership skills; knowledge of the American enterprise system; selfconfidence; improvement of home, business, and community; scholarship; citizenship; and career goals PREREQUISITE Software and Game Development or Formal programming instruction and experience in C++, JAVA or another programming language. OPTIONS FOR NEXT COURSE REQUIRED STUDENT TEXTBOOK Up-to-date course resource materials are provided by school.

Developing Database Applications 049 Identify relational database terminology. 050 Identify database model types (e.g., relational, hierarchical, object-oriented, flat-file model). 051 Describe the three-layer/tier model for database applications (e.g., presentation, rules, data warehouse). 052 Design a GUI (graphical user interface) for a database application. 053 Write code to integrate an existing database into a program application. 054 Write code to manage a database (e.g., deleting, updating, adding records). 055 Identify the data object model for the program language (e.g., ADO.NET, ODB, AJAX, ODBC, JDBC). 056 Bind database fields to the interface elements (controls). 057 Code sort and search routines. Developing Interactive Multimedia Applications 058 Integrate video or animations into applications. 059 Integrate sound effects and/or background music into applications. 060 Identify programming languages and game engines used to create game applications. 061 Write a game-design document. 062 Code a 2-D game. 063 Create a multiplayer game. 064 Create an animated character using a graphic or sprite editor. 065 Write code to track lives and/or energy in a game application. 066 Code behaviors of an object (e.g., collisions, collision avoidance, collision detection). 067 Write code to track player(s) score. 068 Code a 3-D game. Developing Mobile Applications 069 Determine the programming languages used to create mobile applications. 070 Design a GUI (graphical user interface) for a mobile application. 071 Code an application for a smart device (e.g., calculator for a PDA or cell phone). 072 Describe the process of application deployment.
