1 1 TEAMWORK Strategize 1 The Foundation of Success Kids will Kids will discover that God has a plan for each person s life. Session Focus Coaches and players can take five basic steps to build a successful game plan. One of the first things a coach does in making a game plan is to develop a strategy. The coach chooses what each player s role will be because he knows what his players can do. God has a game plan for each of us too. His plan is on purpose, even when it doesn t seem to make sense. The events in Moses life as a baby and young man show us how God knew what was best for Moses. MEGA Point God s has game a role plan for me. is on purpose. bible Story Nehemiah Moses New Rebuilds Family a Wall Nehemiah Exodus 1, 21 6 Sports Story 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Dale Earnhardt, Jr. s New Team Team MEGA Verse: Each day, Coach will introduce a new segment of the MEGA Verse with actions. Encourage kids to learn each segment of the MEGA Verse until the complete verse is learned. MEGA VERSE Jeremiah 29: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 18 RALLY GUIDE DAY 1

Object Lesson Kids participate in an object lesson that reinforces today s theme. you will need Two dozen eggs (two cartons) One additional egg Two plates Clear cup or bowl Tarp or trash bags Disinfecting wipes getting ready Make sure eggs have no cracks and are pointed-end down in the carton. Place tarp or trash bags on floor under egg cartons. SAY When we follow the right game plan, the first thing we need is the right strategy, or actions to reach the goal. In sports, the coach usually comes up with the game plan, so everyone on the team can win together. I m going to use eggs to help us understand what that means. I also need a volunteer. Choose a small kid who can be easily lifted. Invite him to come on stage. Hold up an egg. SAY This egg represents a person. Have you ever played on a team with someone who doesn t listen to the coach and wants to do things their own way? (Group response) 26 RALLY GUIDE DAY 1
10 SAY MEGA will show us what happens when we try to do things on our own. Set a plate on the ground and place the egg on the plate. Cover it with another plate, and have MEGA stand on it. MEGA should look at his foot dramatically as if it has egg on it. Show kids the broken egg. Adult supervision of the activity is advised. Game Plan SAY The egg broke right away. Following our own game plan isn t as good as working with our teammates to follow our game plan. It s the same with God. He wants us to follow His plan because God s game plan... (pause while kids say, is on purpose. ) God s plan uses every one of us together to do His purpose. Hold up a carton of eggs. SAY It s a lot like all these eggs. (To volunteer) Hmm. Since you re going to step on eggs next, maybe you should take off your shoes and socks. Just in case. Volunteer removes shoes and socks. SAY God s plan works because He knows us better than anyone else. Better than our coaches. Even better than our parents. He knows what will happen to us. The good things and the bad things. And He wants us to trust His plan. That s exactly what I m going to ask of our volunteer. (Look at volunteer.) You saw what happened to MEGA when he stepped on an egg, right? (Volunteer nods.) What do you think will happen if I have you stand on all these eggs? Do you think they ll all break? (Let volunteer respond.) Place two open cartons of eggs on the floor, about 10 inches apart. Lift the volunteer over the cartons and lower the kid to stand flat-footed on the eggs. The eggs should not break. SAY Let s see what happened. (Lift the volunteer off the eggs. Pick up the cartons and show the eggs.) These eggs look much better than the one that MEGA stood on, don t they? (Group response) Break an egg into the clear cup to show that they are real eggs. Use disinfecting wipes as needed. SAY That s what happens when we follow God in life. God s game plan... (pause while kids say, is on purpose. ) MEGA does the MEGA Point action as the kids finish the phrase. DAY 1 RALLY GUIDE 27

(MEGA nods yes.) Did they tell you today s MEGA Point? (MEGA nods yes.) MEGA does the MEGA Point action. SAY I think MEGA wants us to say the MEGA Point right now. Let s see how loud we can say it. SAY Today we re going to hear a sports story and a Bible story that show us how God s plan is on purpose. MEGA, can you stay and help with the sports story? MEGA nods yes and sits on the chair next to the leader. SAY Today s sports story is about Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He has a game plan to be a winning NASCAR driver. Some people call him Junior because his dad was a famous driver too. Key slide 8: Sports Flash 1 MEGA begins to pretend to drive a race car. SAY Before Junior even had his driver s license, Rick Hendrick offered him a racing contract written on a napkin. But Junior wanted to race for his family s team. MEGA keeps pretending to drive. SAY Then, in 2007 Rick Hendrick invited Junior to race for his team again. Junior chose to change teams even though it meant leaving his family s team and changing his number from #8 to #88. Those were big decisions that Junior had to make on purpose. Key slide 9: Logo with Day 1 MEGA Point MEGA taps the Rally Coach on the shoulder and does the MEGA Point action. 30 RALLY GUIDE DAY 1
14 SAY You re right, MEGA. This story reminds me of our MEGA Point too. It shows us how God s plan... (pause while kids say, is on purpose. ) Thanks for helping, MEGA. See you! MEGA waves good-bye and exits the stage. Lead kids in waving good-bye. SAY This story about Dale Earnhardt, Jr., reminds me of a story in the Bible in the Book of Exodus. It s about a man named Moses. Game Plan Bible Story (EXODUS 1 AND 2) Kids hear a Bible story about Moses which reinforces today s MEGA Point. you will need MEGA Sports Camp Game Plan Director CD-ROM getting ready Read through the Bible story so you are comfortable sharing with the kids. SAY God used Moses in His winning game plan for a whole nation of people called the Israelites. God s plan was on purpose. But that doesn t mean that Moses always knew what was going to happen next. SAY As I tell the story, you re going to decide if things that happened to Moses seemed to be a good thing or a bad thing. If it s a good thing, you ll give me a thumbs-up (demonstrate this). If it s a bad thing, you ll give me a thumbs-down (demonstrate this). SAY Are you ready? (Allow kids to answer.) Let s get started. Moses was born into an Israelite family during a very difficult time. The Israelites were a group of people who loved God. They had come to live in Egypt because they needed food. Over time the number of Israelites grew. Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, began to worry that the Israelites might take over his country. So he made the Israelites into slaves and forced them to make bricks and build cities. Was it a good thing or a bad thing to be slaves? Key slide 10: Bible Story Day 1, Slide 1 SAY It would be a bad thing to be a slave. As the number of Israelites continued to grow, Pharaoh became even more afraid. So he ordered that all the baby boys born to Israelite families should be thrown into the Nile River. When Moses was born, he was supposed to die. DAY 1 RALLY GUIDE 31
15 Game Plan Was that a good thing or a bad thing? SAY That s a very bad thing. Moses was supposed to die right away. Although Moses was supposed to be killed, his family tried to save him by hiding him. For 3 months, his family was very careful to keep the baby boy a secret. Moses family loved him very much. Do you think having a loving family is a good thing or a bad thing? SAY A loving family is always a good thing. As Moses grew, his family couldn t hide him any longer. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? SAY That s a bad thing. Do you think Moses mother and father were worried about what would happen to Moses? (Group response) I think they were very worried, but they had an idea. Moses mother covered a basket with sticky black tar to make it waterproof, and she put Baby Moses into the basket. Then she put the basket into the Nile River. Does that sound like a good thing or a bad thing? Key slide 11: Bible Story Day 1, Slide 2 SAY I think either answer could be right. It s not very safe for a baby to float in a big river, is it? But Moses sister Miriam stayed close by and watched the basket to make sure Moses was safe. Miriam was very helpful. Does that sound like a good thing or a bad thing? SAY It turned out to be a good thing. It wasn t long before Pharaoh s daughter came to the river to take a bath. The basket floated very close to the princess. The princess had a servant bring the basket to her. When she saw Baby Moses in the basket, she felt sorry for him. She decided to adopt the baby and raise him as her son. SAY Does that sound like a good thing or a bad thing? 32 RALLY GUIDE DAY 1
16 Key slide 12: Bible Story Day 1, Slide 3 SAY Moses adoption by Pharaoh s daughter was a very good thing. Not only was he saved from death, but he got to grow up in a palace and have the best education in Egypt. The princess even hired Moses mom to take care of him until he grew bigger. Moses had two families, just like some of you do. He learned two languages and understood both Egyptian and Israelite ways of doing things. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Game Plan SAY This turned out to be a part of God s plan. God s game plan... (pause while kids say, is on purpose. ) Do you think that following God s plan meant Moses was perfect? (Group response) No, it doesn t. When Moses was older, he didn t always do the right thing. He didn t always follow God s plan. SAY One day Moses saw an Egyptian man beating up an Israelite. He didn t like seeing the Egyptian beating up one of his fellow Israelites. Moses got mad. He killed the Egyptian man and buried him in the sand to hide what he had done. Do you think that s a good thing or a bad thing? SAY Hurting others and trying to cover it up is a bad thing. When Pharaoh heard what Moses had done, he planned to kill Moses. So, Moses ran for his life. He left Egypt and traveled a very long way to a land called Midian. Moses had to leave his friends and family behind. He was an outcast. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Key slide 13: Bible Story Day 1, Slide 4 SAY It sounds like Moses isn t following God s plan, doesn t it? (Group response) But we re going to find out that God s winning plan was bigger than Moses big mistake. Even though Moses wasn t perfect, God still had a plan for him. DAY 1 RALLY GUIDE 33
17 Game Plan God has a plan for our lives too. Our MEGA Verse tells us that. Let s say it together. Key slide 14: Day 1 MEGA Verse Day 1: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, Lead the kids in saying the MEGA Verse. Prayer SAY Let s pray and ask God to help us remember that His plan is on purpose. Dear God, thank You for the lessons we learned today about Your game plan. Help us to choose Your plan for our lives. You know exactly who we are, and You love us just the way we are. Help us to remember that. In Jesus name. Amen. Challenge Questions Help kids review what they have learned. Key slides in order: Challenge Questions and answers Feel free to adapt prayer as needed to fit your camp. SAY We ve learned a lot today about how God has a plan for each one of us. Let s see what you remember. I m going to ask five challenge questions. If the answer is yes, wave your hands in the air and shout yes. If the answer is no, put your hands on your head and say no. SAY 1. God had a game plan for Moses. Yes or no (Group response) The answer is Yes. We know that God had a special plan for Moses just like He does for you and me. 2. Moses family loved him very much. Yes or no (Group response) The answer is Yes. God gave Moses parents wisdom to protect him, and He gave Moses a new family to take care of him too. 3. It was easy for Moses to follow God s plan. Yes or no (Group response) The answer is No. Moses had to leave his mom and dad. That wasn t easy. And he made mistakes, like when he killed someone and tried to cover it up. Moses shows us that we will face difficulties even when we are following God s plan. Let MEGA help with the answers to the questions. 34 RALLY GUIDE DAY 1
18 4. God has a special game plan for you. Yes or no (Group response) Yes, our MEGA Verse tells us that God has a plan for every one of us that He wants us to follow. 5. We had a great day at MEGA Sports Camp. Yes or no (Group response) Of course, the answer is Yes. Switch to the Day 1 menu on the Music & Media DVD. Game Plan Coach Wraps Up Coach wraps up the day. SAY I had a great day today and I can t wait to come back next time. Let s check in with Coach before we go. Closing Play the Coach Segment Day 1 Closing Rally from the Music & Media DVD. SAY It s time to end MEGA Sports Camp for today. You ll get today s Theme Keeper. Plus you ll get the first Sports Flash as you leave. Remember to do the activities inside and bring back the I Did It! slip next time so you can enter the drawing for a prize. Show Sports Flash 1 and point out the slip kids need to return. MEGA enters and does the MEGA Point action. SAY MEGA, do you want us to say the MEGA Point one more time? MEGA nods yes. SAY Okay, how about if just the boys go first? Boys, God s game plan... (pause while boys say, is on purpose. ) Now the girls. Girls, God s game plan... (pause while girls say, is on purpose. ) SAY Great job, everyone! Thanks for a great day at MEGA Sports Camp. Good-bye! MEGA waves good-bye too. Give a copy of Sports Flash 1 and a Theme Keeper to each kid. Verify the sign-out procedure for kids with the Director. DAY 1 RALLY GUIDE 35
