24 Homeless Shelter Hotline DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES PRINCE GEORGE S COUNTY (Continued) Maryland Department of Human Resources (This website allows you to apply online for food stamps, temporary cash assistance, medical assistance, Maryland Children s Health Program, Maryland Energy Assistance Program, and the Child Care Subsidy Program.) Purchase of Child Care Subsidy Program (This program is part of the Department of Social Services and gives eligible families vouchers to help pay for child care.) Transitional Housing 805 Brightseat Road Landover, MD (Houses men and women, with or without children and two parent families for 9 to 24 months) Programs Provided By the Department of Social Services: A person can apply for any of the following services below through their local DSS office. For information on applying, call Burial Assistance Program The Burial Assistance Program is available to help with funeral expenses of the deceased when their families can not afford funeral costs. Eligibility includes recipients of Temporary Cash Assistance, Medical Assistance and SSI. Electric Universal Service Program This program assists low-income customers with their electric bills. Emergency Assistance to Families with Children (EAFC) EAFC provides emergency cash assistance to families who need help paying rent, utilities, or other emergency bills. Families must have at least one child under the age of 21 and living with them, provide proof that they are behind on rent, and present a notice from the utility company that service has been/will be cut off. Food Stamps Helps low income families purchase food; Eligibility depends on if you: work for low wages, are unemployed, work part time, receive welfare, are elderly or disabled and live on a small income, or are homeless. 25 DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES PRINCE GEORGE S COUNTY (Continued) Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP) Helps provide loans to families facing eviction from their homes. To be eligible, you must: live in a rental property, verify the pending eviction, and show receipts and statements that prove you cannot afford to pay your rent. Maryland Child Support Enforcement Program This program helps caretakers/parents receive child support. You must be able to establish paternity of the child and be willing to provide information about the absent parent. There are no income requirements. To apply for child support you need to go to the DSS in Temple Hills. Maryland Children s Health Program (MCHP) Provides health care coverage to low-income children up to age 19 and pregnant women Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) The Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) provides assistance with heating bills. Payments are made to your utility company on your behalf. Under this program there is limited assistance available to replace broken or inefficient refrigerators and furnaces. Maryland Pharmacy Assistance Program The Maryland Pharmacy Assistance Program provides help to qualified residents, regardless of age, who are not eligible for the Maryland Medical Assistance Program. Eligibility is not limited to the elderly and disabled. Maryland Reaching Independence and Stability through Employment (R.I.S.E.) R.I.S.E. trains people with job specific skills necessary to obtain jobs that pay at least $10 an hour and offer benefits. Head of households, youth in homes receiving temporary cash assistance, non-custodial parents who owe child support, and transitioning foster care youth are eligible for this program. Medicaid The program provides health care insurance for low-income families and individuals. The insurance covers in-patient/outpatient hospital expenses, pharmacy costs, basic physician care, nursing home costs, medical day care, personal care, mental health, and substance abuse treatment. Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) This program helps families with minor children receive TCA for a total of 60 months. All applicants must be seeking employment while receiving TCA. Temporary Disability Assistance Program (TDAP) This program provides limited cash assistance for disabled adults. Applicants must be disabled and have no children under 18 living with them. A doctor must fill out a medical form stating the applicant cannot work for at least three months. Prince George s School Mental Health Initiative 25
