I have worked with public art projects, as well as personal commissions, exhibitions and have been cited in two publications. I have worked as an art educator in several capacities and have also planned and initiated several projects in academic and community settings. WHAT CONTRIBUTIONS DO YOU FEEL YOU COULD MAKE IF YOU WERE SELECTED TO THIS BOARD? 2 TURBADO ARTIST/EDUCATOR/LECTURER/LMT FOUNDER DEEP WELL WHOLISTIC C.L.E.A.N.S.E. CENTER PHILOSOPHY ARTIST BIO ART IS FOR LIFE S SAKE Turbado Marabou (Born James Miller) is originally from Gainesville, Florida. He studied at Florida A&M University under Prof. Kenneth Falana where he received his B.S. Degree in Fine Arts. He received his M.F.A. in printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the late Prof. Dean Meeker. As Art Director of the Memorial Union, Turbado spearheaded the first African Continuum project which inspired several other programs and gave recognition to other cultural organizations that were previously ignored. Turbado received the Porter Butts Award for outstanding talents in the Arts at the University of Wisconsin Madison. After receiving his M.F.A., Turbado moved to Chicago, Illinois where he was involved in several lead mural and mosaic projects funded through the Chicago Public Art Group. He continues his work today as a practicing Artist and community and cultural arts advocate. Turbado currently resides in Gainesville, Florida s Pleasant Street Historical District, where he is a Licensed Massage Therapist. His most recent effort is the Deepwell Wholistic C.L.E.A.N.S.E. Center, featuring the Deepwell Pleasant Street Gallery and teaching classes in the Cultural Living Arts. Art is a reflection of the human condition which interprets ones culture, daily life and spirituality. This is the premise upon which my works and concepts are drawn from. I strive to make each piece respectful interpretations of cultural heritage and social values. Our Ancestors teach us that the beauty of life is working in tandem with the grand plan of creation. The courage of an Artist is being able to capture these aspects in their work in order to retain that which is meaningful to us as human beings. Thus I contend Art is For Life s Sake. To stay true to ones purpose and calling can be the most challenging task or the richest reward. Turbado Marabou
