2 The Chicago Vision In ten years all individuals and families at risk of homelessness in Chicago will have access to quality affordable housing and supportive services. Our concerted action will: Stop the growth through new and established safeguards for those at risk Provide a safe, fast and dignified way out of homelessness for those already affected Prevent the recurrence of homelessness Sponsored by U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development 2

3 Homelessness in Chicago About 15,000 persons, representing 8,000 single individuals and 2,000 families were served in the cityfunded shelters in Families are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. 1 in 4 of the homeless are children and youth under age percent had no income. 15 percent were employed.
