12 Data Warehousing Survey results (Jan ) Q. What area(s) of your institutions reporting, business intelligence or warehousing functions are working most successfully? Areas of BI/DW that are working most successfully Student - long history Data Warehouse, ETL and Modelling functions are working well and at a good stage of identification and development. Reporting Tool Test Phase is progressing well and that and Portal functionality look excellent. Reporting on Student Load (Actuals, Targets and Forecasts) Too early to evaluate. KPI presentation layer Ad hoc reporting Reporting framework OLAP Cubes DW - student until the new student system comes into play BI - Inhouse - pretty much all BI - BO PerfMgt - still in its infancy Reporting Dimensional modelled Student Profiling mart which is refreshed nightly. Finance Reporting Admission Enrolment High Degree Research Financial Actuals HR FTE's Student, Financial Student Load, HR the rest are currenty being finalised but certainly helped greatly in our recent AUQA visit Good reporting is available from nearly all major sources from individual 'marts'. BI Finance and HR Data access and Reporting to university community Q3. What area(s) of your institution's reporting, business intelligence or warehousing functions need improving most? Areas of BI/DW that need improving most Expansion of DW to include HR & Finance Implementation Year - Not Applicable Reporting on Student Load (Actuals, Targets and Forecasts) - seems strange, but true We also need a much greater focus on pure BI, ie. reporting on areas other than the DW. As we only do a small amount of this. Policies and Procedures Evaluations of Courses and Teaching - needs to be removed as it is compliance reporting and not well implemented. IT and training services for reporting were lacking for a long time but has recently greatly improved. It is too early to comment on DWH Integration of disparate sources ETL and Meta HR, Research, and Finance Metrics Data Quality and Integration (conformed dimensions) Combining Student, HR, Finance & Research to simplify Management Performance Reporting on Faculties and Schools. Detailed workforce planning student HR More corporate level reporting combining across systems is required. Data Warehousing needs a tool upgrade and more resources. DWH under development Students, Research and Strategic Planning ETL Data Quality More Support Staff 1/1
