2 Course Objectives: Become familiar with the nature of odds and risk management in gaming. Acquaint themselves with the role of probabilities and uncertainty when setting odds, as well as with the corporate models of bookmakers, the typology of bets and the risks involved, as well as how the risks inherent in every type of bet can be managed in such a way as to make the occurrence of a loss for the bookmaker impossible. Describe the salient points of the Remote Gaming Regulations and other relevant legislation and carry out tasks in compliance with these legal frameworks. Keep abreast with local and EU developments with respect to Remote Gaming. Proactively help spot, report and advise on weaknesses and controls in the respective team dedicated to keeping compliant and fighting fraud Define the areas in risk and fraud that are specific to Gaming Discuss and explain obligations of remote gaming operators under remote gaming, data protection and consumer legislation Proactively help spot, report and advise on weaknesses and controls related to the Responsible Gaming framework. Create a proactive culture within the whole organisation with respect to Responsible Gaming and duty of care. Accreditation: A CPD Award Qualification in Remote Gaming Business accredited at MQF Level 5 by the National Commission of Higher and Further Education (NCFHE) will be presented to delegates who successfully attend all modules and obtain a minimum pass in a final 4 hour examination (1 hour per module) and in the in-class group case study assignments (1 hour per module). Maximum number of participants: Places for this course are limited to 20 delegates on first come first serve basis. Entry Requirements The entry requirements for this course are 5 O-Levels including a pass in Mathematics and 2 A-Levels OR at minimum of 5 years working experience in Business Administration or within the Gaming Industry. 4 Module 2: Risk Management and Fraud Matters in Remote Gaming 3 sessions of 3.25 hours each Dates: 26th February, 2nd and 5th March Lecturing hours: 9.75 Time: 4:30pm to 8pm Trainer: Mr. Daniel Gambin At the end of the module the learner will be able to: Define the areas in risk and fraud that are specific to igaming Apply the knowledge into practice and understand how to mitigate the risk of fraud Prioritise and categorise the different forms of fraudulent activities (according to regularity, most damaging, etc ) Describe the evolving internal controls and risk management techniques aimed at defending the organisation from fraudulent attacks Obtain a very good understanding of mitigations to risks associated to compliance in igaming environment Describe the main contents and requirements stemming from the relevant legislation and regulations and their importance in the context of fraud & risk mitigation Identify the importance of risk and fraud in the igaming world Analyse the controls that are in place in order to protect organisations, customers and employees Utilise knowledge and risk assessment to increase defences and prevent high-risk case scenarios Implement empathy skills through better active listening skills Incorporate motivational interviewing skills to get better information through questioning Diminish communication blockers in order to enhance information giving Discuss with/report to the Board and Management the impacts of relevant laws and regulations & risk and their impact on the organisation s internal control system Identify weaknesses and vulnerabilities in the controls and measures set up for risk appetite and fraud prevention Sustain better operational delivery through better handling skills Analyse through stronger details and investigation skills Keep abreast and where necessary undertake various seminars. 5 Module 3: Responsible Gaming 2 sessions of 3.25 hours each Dates: 11th and 18th March 2015 Time: 16:30 to 20:00 Lecturing hours: 7 Trainers: Mr. Daniel Gambin and Dr. Jackie Scerri At the end of the module the learner will be able to: Identify lacking tools and policies in the Responsible Gaming framework Sustain better operational delivery through better handling skills Analyse through stronger details and investigation skills Identify non mitigated risks in relation to the basic requirements of the Responsible Gaming regulations imposed by countries Proactively help spot, report and advise on weaknesses and controls related to the Responsible Gaming framework Create a proactive culture within the whole organisation with respect to Responsible Gaming and duty of care Assist Management in designing an effective responsible gaming strategy and related policy Identify risks in relation to the basic requirements of the Responsible Gaming regulations and recommend internal controls to mitigate them Page 5 of 9

6 Module 4: Odds and Risk Management in Gaming 4 sessions of 3.25 hours each Dates: 26th March, 7th, 9th and 13th April Lecturing hours: 13 Time: 4:30pm to 8pm Trainer: Mr. Bernard Mallia At the end of the module the learner will be able to: Compare and contrast the different qualitative and quantitative measures of probability; Interpret the evolution of probability over the years and its implications on today s applications in the gaming industry; Examine the use of different risk evaluation techniques; Identify sources of risk and types of vulnerability; Interpret how probability and uncertainty combine to make for different scenarios and situations found in the gaming industry; Identify the different business models that gaming companies adopt to come out as winners irrespectively of the outcome of an event by using the overround and the standardisation of the bookmaker s profit margin techniques. Compare and contrast the different concepts in gaming such as arbitrage and asymmetric information; Interpret how different factors are bound to influence betting and the propensity for an individual to accept a bet; Examine the use of models by bookmakers and the associated risk of each model; Identify the basic categories of fixed and spread bets; Compare and contrast the different strategies adopted by bookmakers to bias games in their favour; Interpret the difference between an equitable odd and one which is biased; Examine the use of different bookmaking strategies; Identify the key players involved in gaming; Identify and differentiate between total number bets, supremacy and match bets, and performance index bets. 7 Trainers Dr. Jackie Scerri Jackie obtained a Doctorate of Laws at the University of Malta in 1999 and commenced her career as a litigation lawyer, gaining experience in civil, commercial, constitutional and insurance litigation. Eventually, she proceeded to pursue her studies at Queen Mary, University of London, in the areas of Internet Law, Communications Law, Computer Law and Competition Law. She is currently an owner and director of Equinox Advisory, a consultancy firm which focuses on various areas of consultancy from a legal, economics and technical perspective. She advises local and international clients on matters relating to online gaming, intellectual property and software licences, electronic commerce, data protection, antitrust and anti-money laundering procedures. She has recently been engaged as a consultant for the purpose of advising on and drafting the regulatory frameworks for Commonwealth countries in the fields of telecommunications, cybercrime, digital evidence, electronic commerce, electronic signatures and data protection. She has also advised the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority in relation to anti-money laundering policies. From an EU perspective, Jackie has been commissioned to carry out reports on a number of occasions in relation to electronic evidence and telecommunications. Jackie has extensive experience in the online gaming sector and she regularly assists clients in obtaining, retaining and managing online gaming licences in Malta as well as in merger and take-over transactions for clients who prefer to enter the Maltese market in this manner, rather than through the general licensing procedures. Mr. Daniel Gambin Daniel s current position at Unibet Group is that of Head of Risk & Fraud. For over 5 years he has been heavily involved in Fraud Prevention, Risk Management and Compliance in a fast growing and constantly changing industry, focusing particularly on training, technical development and process flow. Daniel is a member of the Institute of Risk Management and is currently following a Master s Degree in Fraud Management, focusing on Money Laundering Awareness and Prevention. Page 7 of 9

8 Trainers Mr. Bernard Mallia Bernard Mallia is the CEO of Equinox Advisory (formerly InteliThink), a local firm specialising in legal, economics, corporate and technology services. He is also the President of the IRISS and the Vice- President of the MIICT and holds visiting lecturing appointments at the University of Malta and the ILM. Bernard holds a first degree in Commerce with a specialisation in Public Policy and Economics, as well as an honours degree in Public and Private Sector Management from the University of Malta. He pursued post-graduate studies in Economics at the University of Edinburgh, and at the European University where he earned an MSc. in Information Systems. He also holds diplomas in Computerised Bookkeeping (IAB), Project Management (CIC), and Advertising and Public Relations (CIC). Bernard is also a certified MS Office power-user, a SQL Server 2005 MCP and a qualified basic first aider. Bernard is an internationally-recognised expert in a number of areas that include financial planning, project appraisals, data mining and modelling and risk and sensitivity analyses, and brings to the table a combination of skills related to financial planning, economics, management and information systems. In the past, Bernard has worked for several public, private, supranational and international organisations and bodies. He has provided and continues to provide consultancy services to the European Commission, the Maltese Government, Maltese businesses, as well as businesses and Government agencies in Europe and Africa. Bernard is also a member of the International Who s Who Historical Society, the American Economic Association, the PAEN and the World Economics Association.
