SME SUPPORT AND FUNDING SME Support Organizations Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) The Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) is a dynamic public agency with an overall responsibility for formulating and overseeing the economic development strategy of Bahrain, and for creating the right climate to attract direct investment into the Kingdom. The role of the Bahrain EDB is to provide leadership by uniting all of the Kingdom s shareholders through a unified vision, and to develop key strategies for growth. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce The Ministry of Industry & Commerce is responsible for a diverse range of activities which make up the commercial environment in Bahrain, including the registration of all forms of commercial business, commercial agencies, industrial property, standards and metrology, foreign trade as well as a number of other related activities. The Ministry aims to ensure the maintenance of an open, transparent and market driven commercial environment. Small and Medium Enterprises Unit (SMEU) The Small and Medium Enterprises Unit has been established by the Ministry of Industry of Bahrain to encourage and assist SMEs. SME Committee The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry established the SME Committee in order to serve the private sector and help SMEs overcome any financial difficulties. UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) The UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Bahrain was inaugurated in April 1996 and is designed to facilitate the mobilization of foreign resources (technical, managerial, financial etc) for enhancing industrial partnership cooperation between companies in Bahrain and other nations. SME SUPPORT AND FUNDING Incubators Bahrain Business Incubator Centre The Bahrain Business Incubator Centre is initiated, financed and fully owned by the Bahrain Development Bank and the first of its kind in Bahrain and the GCC. BBIC s main mission is to support the small and medium business activity in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Bahrain Business Incubator Center (BBIC) provides start-up and developing businesses with a full range of services that inspire and sustain successful growth and development such as Business Counseling, Specialized Training, Operator Services, Administrator Services, and Financial Services. www.bbicbahrain.com
SME SUPPORT AND FUNDING Venture Capital and Private Equity Firms Tamkeen and Bahrain Development Bank Two new programs have been launched by Tamkeen and Bahrain Development Bank: The Financial Assistance for Feasibility Studies of SME and the Pre-Seed Capital Support. These programs will help in giving SMEs access to capital at the innovation development stage. Under the feasibility study support scheme, companies with a capital outlay of more than BHD 100,000 or those presenting new products, services, or technology can avail of up to BHD 5,000 to complete a comprehensive and accurate feasibility study. The Pre-Seed Capital Support scheme will provide basic financial start up support of BHD 5,000 for materials, rent and other related expenditure to 20 innovative start up companies. Emerging Markets Partnership (Bahrain) Emerging Markets Partnership provides private equity investments in the power, petrochemical, telecommunication, airline, airports and toll road sectors. Esterad Investment Company The Esterad Investment Company provides private equity and direct investments in real estate, retail, chemical industry and financial services. IDB Infrastructure Fund The IDB Infrastructure Fund provides private equity investments in the infrastructure sector and mobilizes and redirects investment capital to Islamic countries. Riyada Enterprise Development Riyada Enterprise Development Fund SME investment platform is designed to provide growth capital to an under-served market in the MENASA region. Riyada invests in businesses that are proven and have a core management team with the desire and capability to expand their business.
