VIDEO MONITORING & ALARM VERIFICATION

VIDEO MONITORING What is Video Monitoring Video or CCTV Monitoring as a service has been around for many years particularly in the Mining and Access Control Industries but has always been an expensive and labour intensive solution. Monitoring involves one or more persons constantly and vigilantly keeping watch of the video streams in front of them on big and smalls screens for various purposes including: Theft Detection Intruder Detection General Criminal Activity Illegal Behavior Access Control Workplace Safety Any many more A problem in the last few decades with traditional video monitoring is that the technology was ordinary, the equipment was the size of a small building making it a solution that was difficult to implement, and the cost of the hardware was enough to send most businesses bankrupt. Additionally it was a service that had to be Local to the system Now however in the 21 st Century, technology has changed allowing for dramatically reduced hardware footprints and cost, easier installation and additional benefits such as: Greatly Improved Video Quality Easier Installation Advanced Features and Integration with other hardware Analytics to assist with event detection Large Volumes of Data Storage Any Many More Remote Monitoring Capabilities Away from the Site IP VIDEO IP Video is the control and recording of live digital CCTV images over IP-based networks such as an IT Local Area Network (LAN) as found in most organizations. Transmitter/receiver modules, either standalone or built into IP cameras, convert the camera signal into high quality MPEG-4 or H.264 format digital video for transmission over the network. Operators using workstations running Security Management Software (SMS) can view live and recorded video from any camera. The very best IP Video systems are truly distributed, which allows any component (camera, SMS workstation or video recorder) to be located at any point on the IP-network. This makes the system extremely flexible and scalable. Video is recorded directly from the network using Network Video Recorders (NVRs), which can be distributed around the network to minimize the bandwidth usage and create a fault tolerant solution by removing the single point of failure associated with analog/dvr systems. The SMS will also provide advanced video search and analysis tools, analytics, alarm handling features and site map overlays for easy identification of cameras and alarms. The one thing that hasn t changed however is the reliance on Manpower for constant monitoring which continues to make this an expensive ongoing form of service. It is a service that very few can afford and many don t actually require ALARM VERIFICATION - VIDEO Alarm Verification utilising video has also been around for many years but has only become a viable option in recent years also due to technology advancements. The process involved is when an alarm is generated and acknowledged by a person(s) which prompts them to check Video Footage (Live and/or Recorded) that is associated with the Alarm to determine the actions required. This service is preferred over Continuous Live Video Monitoring as it greatly reduces costs and is less labour intensive. It is also usually more effective as it allows more camera s to be monitored at one time.

NETWORKS - IMPORTANT WHATS REQUIRED For Remote Monitoring Services to exist they require a complex network involving both Hardwired and possibly Wireless Links. Due to the possible sensitivity and security requirements of CCTV Systems, all Remote systems should be setup using Hardware Based VPN s (Virtual Private Networks). This is the best way to ensure that unauthorized persons and devices cannot access the system at both the Local and Remote Sites therefore protecting the integrity and security of the system. For a VPN to exist special hardware is required as well as dedicated Network Links which can be supplied via ADSL, Fibre Wireless, Satellite as well as Microwave Services. The Service that is right for each site is dependent on the Network Service Available, Bandwidth Requirements as well as the ongoing service budget. In some cases, a mixture of services is required we will advise which service is right for you PLACE PHOTO HERE, OTHERWISE DELETE BOX This image shows a basic layout of the Network Topology required for Remote Video and Verifications Services
