MASTER OF FINANCIAL ECONOMICS (By Course Wk Only) University of Colombo, Sri Lanka Department of Economics University of Colombo
Introduction This program aims to provide an intermediate level theetical and analytical competence in the Financial Economics and related fields of study. The Course of study targets those who are already engaged in financial and related fields and wish to acquire a deeper understanding of the they and applications relating to the subject of Financial Economics in a development context, to meet the demand of professional and academic careers. Course Structure The program of study comprises: b) Twelve taught course Modules: Microeconomics (MFE 01) Macroeconomics (MFE 02) Econometrics and Mathematics (MFE 03) International Finance and Financial Institutions (MFE 04) Public Finance and Policies (MFE 05) Financial Markets (MFE 06) Current Economic Issues (MFE 07) Financial Accounting (MFE 08) Financial Institutions in Sri Lanka (MFE 09) Project Planning and Appraisal (MFE 10) Financial Statistics (MFE 11) Management Process and Practice (MFE 12) c) Each unit consists of a minimum of 45 hours of classroom teaching time and guest lecturers / wkshops/ seminars etc.
Duration One Year by Course Wk only. Academic year is divided into two equal semesters and results are released at the end of each semester.
Admission Requirements The minimum entry requirements f the Masters of Financial Econoics Program shall be any one of the following three combinations: i. First Class Second Class Honours in the Special Degree in Economics a related field, awarded by a recognised university. ii. First Class Second Class in the General Degree Examination with Economics related field as a maj subject, awarded by a recognised university equivalent qualification and two year wk experience in a related field. iii. Any other Degree with Economics related field as a maj subject, awarded by a recognised university equivalent qualification so recognized by the University of Colombo and five year wk experience in a related field. iv. Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Economics/ Economic Development awarded by the University of Colombo any other equivalent qualification so recognized by the University of Colombo v. A professional qualification that will be recognized, on a case by case basis by the University of Colombo, on the recommendation of the Department of Economics and the Faculty of Arts as equivalent to any of the qualifications in (i) to (iv) above. and vi. Commencement The Masters of Financial Economics program commences in January every year and applications are accepted throughout the year. There will be two batches of students as Saturday batch and Sunday batch and classes are conducted between 7.30 am 5.30 pm. Admission Procedure All applications should be directed to the Codinat, Department of Economics, University of Colombo, Reid Avenue, Colombo 07, Sri Lanka. As part of the selection process, there will be entry test and follow-up interview. Current Fee Structure Application fee Rs. 2,000.00 Registration fee Rs. 2,500.00 Library fee Rs. 1,500.00 Exam fee Rs. 6,000.00 Library deposit (Refundable) Rs. 5,000.00 Tuition fee Rs. 130,000.00 (Tuition fee is payable in two instalments. Special rates are available f international students) Teaching Faculty In addition to the teaching faculty of the Department of Economics, the service of visiting staff is received from the Faculty of Science and Management of the University of Colombo, Central Bank of Sri Lanka and other financial institutions. Feign scholars are also invited to deliver guest lectures on carefully selected topics.
