3 White Paper Introduction RightFax Edition communicates via T.38 FoIP through a SR140 implementation on the Fax Server deployment. SR140 is a board-less solution that supports both SIP and H323 protocols. Once the call is set up, the fax payload is transmitted via T.38 between the fax server, the communication device, and the end point. The end point may be a fax server or a classic fax machine. In the case of a media gateway, the gateway is responsible for connecting the call to the PSTN and completing the path to the receiving device. Typically these devices are part of a larger VoIP/FoIP infrastructure providing voice, fax, email, and messaging. Fax Server interoperability is based on two simple scenarios, and then enhanced based on the vendor s unique product features and functionality. This document will provide guidance on interoperability between the Open Text Fax Server (SR140) FoIP stack and market leading telephony infrastructure.
