Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA) The Post-Graduate Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA) is issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICAZ) after completion of a professional post-graduate course offered by the Chartered Accountants Academy (CAA) in collaboration with the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) whereby Wits provide course materials and examinations. The purpose of this qualification is to enable qualifying students to be certified as competent in the Theory of Accountancy, which is the admission requirement for the ICAZ Initial Test of Competence (ITC) (previously known as the Qualifying Examination Part 1 (QE1)). The CTA at CAA From 2016 onwards CAA will offer CTA as both full time and part time course. This has been done to accommodate those students who are already working and cannot enroll for the full time course. CTA 2016 : Entry Requirements Full-time CTA Accounting degrees with a degree class of at least 2.2 or equivalent An average mark of at least 60% in financial accounting in the final year of University. ICAZ/SAICA accredited CTA bridging course for those who have non-accounting degrees. CTA Part-Time - Year 1 Available for full time study (No work commitments) Pre CTA course (Refer Below) Part-time Year 1 Accounting degrees ACCA, CIMA and CIS Available to attend lecturers in Harare or Bulawayo. Part-time Year 2 CTA Part-Time year one ICAZ/SAICA accredited CTA bridging course for those who have non-accounting degrees. Available to attend lecturers in Harare or Bulawayo. Student who were in the CTA fulltime and other ICAZ Accredited CTA Programs class but would have failed with an average mark of at least 40% across all four modules will be eligible for admittance. Full Time CTA - The Pre-CTA Course In-order to qualify for entry into Full - Time CTA, students have to enroll for the Pre-CTA Course which is offered as a weekend block release program with online support. CTA Frequently Asked Questions I did my degree at a foreign University, am I eligible for application Foreign Accounting Degree holders will be assessed on a case by case basis. We normally look at the courses that you did in your final year to assess whether the degree is eligible Does CAA help me to get a place to do my articles If I become a CA(Z), is my qualification recognized outside Zimbabwe CAA has a placement program with ICAZ accredited training offices whereby they come and do recruitment from CAA. Whilst we cannot guarantee you a place, you have a better chance of getting articles if you do CTA with us. 90% of our past successful CTA students have secured places for articles within 6 months ICAZ has Mutual Recognition Agreements with many countries, eg SAI- CA,ICAEW, CICA, that allows CA(Z) to be recognized the world over. Over 50% of ICAZ members are practicing outside Zimbabwe as testament to the acceptability of the qualification outside Zimbabwe. Can I do the CTA courses one at a time In order to be admitted into ITC, you should have passed all the four modules in one sitting. Passing in more that one sitting will still give you credit for passing CTA but you will not be eligible to write ITC. Which other Academic Institutions in Zimbabwe are offering CTA In Zimbabwe, only CAA offers CTA in collaboration with Wits University and ICAZ.
