Dear BATTI Resident, Welcome to the University of the Pacific and the Benerd School of Education teacher preparation program. As a student enrolled in the teacher preparation program for a Preliminary CA SB2042 teaching credential there are a number of CA state requirements which must be met. Our office is responsible for keeping track of state requirements and maintaining a credential file for each teacher candidate. The materials in this packet enable you to open a Credential File with the university. Use the checklist in this packet to keep track of materials you have submitted to the credential office. Credential File Checklist Materials may be scanned and emailed to: credential.office@pacific.edu OR mailed to: Credential Office, Benerd School of Education, 3601 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, CA 95211. You may also stop by our office to drop off materials. To open a Benerd School of Education Credential file: Submit a completed Request to Activate a Credential File form Submit a copy of completed Volunteer Live Scan (fingerprint) form. We suggest you print 2 copies of the form. The live scan operator will keep one copy of the completed form and return one to you. Submit a copy of a negative TB (tuberculosis skin test) which is less than 4 years old. If your TB test is positive, please submit a negative chest X-ray report Meet the CA basic skills requirement by submitting an official passing score sheet for either the CBEST OR CSET Writing Skills Test - IMPORTANT Once you pass a test NESINC will send you a link to access your score sheets for free for 45 days after that they remove access to the link and you will have to pay to receive a copy. We recommend you download and maintain a copy on your desktop Submit a copy of either a CA Certificate of Clearance, Valid CA Emergency Sub Permit or CA Site Supervisor Permit. During the course of the program: Multiple Subject Candidates must submit a passing score sheet for: All portions of the CSET multiple subject test (must be completed prior to student teaching) All portions of the RICA test (must be completed prior to recommendation for preliminary credential) Single Subject Candidates must submit a passing score sheet for: All portions of the CSET for your subject area (must be completed prior to student teaching) All candidates must meet the U.S. Constitution requirement by coursework or exam prior to recommendation for preliminary credential (information attached) Completion and passage of all EDUC courses as prescribed in the Course Plan of Study provided by your advisor Submit a signed CPR card for Infants, Children & Adults (cannot be an online class) Passage of Teaching Performance Expectations (TPE s) & PACT *IMPORTANT KEEP A COPY OF EVERYTHING YOU SUBMIT FOR YOUR RECORDS *REMEMBER - Once you pass a test NESINC will send you a link to access your score sheets for free for 45 days after that they remove access to the link and you will have to pay to receive a copy.

Frequently Asked Questions 1. Why are two sets of fingerprints (live scan) required? a. The volunteer live scan is reported directly to the credential office and is required for our office to be in compliance Department of Justice Regulations b. The CASM live scan is to establish your professional record with the CA Teacher Credentialing Commission 2. If I have a CA valid emergency 30-day sub permit or a CA Site Supervisor Permit, can I submit a copy of that in place of the Certificate of Clearance? a. Yes, if you already hold a valid CA permit issued by the CA Credentialing commission, it may be submitted in place of the Certificate of Clearance and you will not have to complete the CASM fingerprints. 3. I read that basic skills and subject matter requirements must be met to earn a CA credential. What does this mean? a. The basic skills requirement can be met either by passing the CBEST or CSET Writing Skills exam it is required of anyone who is pursuing a teaching credential. California Education Code Sections 44252 and 44252.6 specify that candidates must demonstrate, in English, proficiency in basic reading, writing, and mathematics skills. b. The subject matter requirement must be met by anyone pursuing a Multiple Subject, Single Subject Teaching or Preliminary Education Specialist Credential. This means that you have to prove to the state that you know the subject area that you will be teaching. You can meet subject matter requirements: For Mulitple Subject (MS) Candidates & Education Specialist Credential by passing the three sections of the CSET Multi-Subject test For Single Subject (SS) Candidates by passing the CSET in specific subject matter 4. Where can I find information on the different tests? http://www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/ 5. How will I know if I have satisfied the US Constitution requirement? a. The credential analyst will review transcripts to see if the requirement has been met. If you earned your bachelor s degree at a CA State University (CSU) you automatically meet the requirement. 6. What are the steps to applying for my credential? a. Completion and passing of PACT & TPE s b. For Multiple Subject & Ed Specialist Credentials only: Passing RICA score c. Completion of Adult & Infant & Child (Pediatric) CPR d. Satisfy the US Constitution requirement e. Be financially clear with the university f. Final grades must be posted 7. Is the credential I earn No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and CLAD compliant? a. Yes, since 2004 the credential earned, whether MS, SS or Ed Specialist is an SB 2042 which is NCLB compliant through passage of the CSET and has English Learner authorization built into the program.

Furthermore, I authorize release of information contained in this file to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The UOP Credentialing Office has my permission to answer inquiries regarding the status of my credential from appropriate educational agents. Prior to starting the program all individuals must obtain either a Certificate of Clearance or hold a certificate of permit issued by the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Certificate of Clearance requires both fingerprint clearance and completion of personal and professional fitness questions. You must obtain a Certificate of Clearance in order to be enrolled in the teacher preparation program. FAQ s a. Fingerprint results take about 3 days to be reported. Apply for your Certificate of Clearance after that time period b. Turn off ALL pop-up blockers or you will not be able to complete the process c. Certificate of Clearance will be valid for 5 years. 1. Obtain your CA fingerprints, print 2 copies of form to take with you. Please do not use either a police or sheriff station. Wait 3-5 working days for the CTC to receive the results then proceed to step 2: 2. Go to www.ctc.ca.gov and select the Online Services for Educators button 3. Select the Educator Page button 4. Enter your SSN# and birthdate, Click Ok (Note: if this is the first time you are creating a profile, this information will need to be entered twice) 5. Click Edit and enter your personal information, click Next 6. Under the Web Application line click Create New to begin your Certificate of Clearance Application 7. Under the General Application Category drop down box select Certificate of Clearance/Activity Supervisor Clearance Certificate 8. Under the Document Authorization Title drop down box select Certificate of Clearance a check list will pop up click Next 9. Read the Disclosure page for the Professional Fitness questions and select Yes to continue to the next page 10. Answer each of the questions, complete the oath and affidavit, click Submit Payment 11. The next page will show the document applied for and the amount due. Click Continue 12. Fill out the billing form, enter the credit or debit card information must be a card with a VISA or MasterCard logo. Click Continue 13. Verify all payment information is correct, click Complete Payment. Do not click the Complete Payment button more than once.

14. Click the link provided to print payment receipt 15. The CTC will send you an email that confirms your application. 7-10 days following the application another email will be sent with a link to print the document. 16. Forward a pdf to credential.office@pacific.edu or mail in a hard copy

CPR Certification Resources Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is needed for the health education requirement to be fully satisfied. CPR training must cover INFANTS, CHILDREN AND ADULTS. The course must be an in-person, hands-on course. Online CPR courses are not acceptable. The CPR requirement may be satisfied through: American Heart Association - Heartsaver Adult & Pediatric CPR American Red Cross - Adult, Infant & Child CPR with AED Life Saver CPR Local Adult, Infant & Child CPR with AED OR through a course arranged by your organization. Upon certification in the course, please scan and email or send a copy of your CPR card that you have signed to the credential office. U.S. Constitution Requirement Meeting the US Constitution requirement is a State of CA requirement for earning a preliminary teaching credential. The UOP credential analyst will audit transcripts to determine whether or not you have satisfied the US Constitution requirement. If it is determined you have not met the requirement, there are a few options available: 1. Take an online test at Notre Dame de Namur University online, www.usconsitutionexam.com 2. BA or BS degree from a California State University (CSU) as coursework is embedded in degree 3. Completing coursework at a community college near you must be approved by this office prior to enrollment. Please contact us with the name of the college and proposed course number. A U.S. Constitution Course at a school district office or a county office education does not satisfy this requirement. If you complete the online test, please submit transcripts the official certificate from Notre Dame de Namur University online as evidence of completing this requirement. If completed at a community college or other university, please submit official transcripts.
