Introducing 2013 Red Hat Enterprise Linux Packaging Joe Yu Solution Architect, Red Hat 1

Objective The Platform Business Unit plans to introduce new subscription options on 1 October, 2013. Why? Align Packaging with the Open Hybrid Cloud Create subscription models that are portable between physical, virtual, and cloud Complement the OpenStack Platform Incorporate a new member of the family Improve Support Differentiation beyond SLA Enhance our Good, Better, Best offerings with Life Cycle and Portability improvements Simplify Selling Motion Clean up elements of the portfolio based on experience since 2010 2

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Product Portfolio 2013 Base Model PREMIUM STANDARD Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server Socket-pair OR 2 Virtual Instances (Stackable) Use case: General purpose and hybrid cloud environments, can be deployed physically, virtually and in the cloud Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Virtual Datacenters Unlimited Guests for a Socket-pair (Stackable) Virtual only Use Case: Dense virtual (6+) environments on supported hypervisors Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform Socket-pair with Unlimited Guests (Stackable) Includes Red Hat OpenStack, Hypervisor, Guests Use case: Private cloud infrastructure (IaaS) 3

Update Summary 3 new subscription options for the base model that complement Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform Stackable Instance-based Enhanced Support options Add-Ons available as instance-based or socket-based Other Red Hat products follow new subscription model (Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure, CloudForms, RHEV) to simplify selling/purchasing No changes to variants or buying programs 4

Virtualization Updates Options Supported Hosts Included Guests Server (physical) 1 0 Server (virtual) 0 2 for Virtual Datacenters 0 Unlimited OpenStack Platform 1 Unlimited When Server is used as a host, the supported use case is up to 4 guests on KVM. These 4 guests can be any supported OS. Example: If you wanted to run 4 guests on KVM, you would purchase: 1 Server to serve as the KVM host 2 Servers to give you the 4 guests for virtual datacenters is the more cost-effective subscription option for deployments of 6 and more instances per host. 5

New Features for 2013: Stacking Stacking allows customers to combine multiple 2-socket SKUs for systems with more than 2 sockets Why: Simplify our Base Model, reducing complexity for us, partners, and customers Provide flexibility by not forcing customer to identify and commit to hardware model at the time of sale How: Customers with 4-socket and 8-socket servers can buy multiple socket-pair SKUs (2 & 4 respectively) 4-Socket Subscription 2-Socket Sub 2-Socket Sub 4-Socket Server Running 4-Socket Server Running 6

New Features for 2013: Instanced-Based Pricing Allows customer to deploy as either a 2-socket physical system (stackable) or two virtual instances Why: Avoids forcing customers to chose deployment model (physical/virtual) at time of sale Delivers a SKU model that translates into the cloud seamlessly Avoids forcing customer, partners, & sales to count three things (systems, sockets, guests) in the virtual world where such data isn't often easily available How: Customer is free to choose the deployment environment that is right for them flexibility is built into the SKU Subscription management tooling support for 7, 6.5+ and 5.10+ Model offers a reasonable price point no matter where customer deploys or re-deploys it 7

SERVER Subscription: Entitling Physical Systems OR Customer has server with 1 socket-pair (or just 1 CPU). Desires to entitle the server with OS Server Need 1x Server Subscription Customer has server with 2 socket-pairs. Desires to entitle the server with OS Stacking Server Need 2x Server Subscription Server Customer has server with 4 socket-pairs. Desires to entitle the server with OS Stacking Need 4x Server Subscription 8

SERVER Subscription: Entitling Virtual Guests/Instances Hypervisor* Server Customer already has server and supported hypervisor*. But needs to entitle 2 virtual guests Server Need 1x Server Subscription Hypervisor Server Customer already has server and supported hypervisor*. But needs to entitle 3 virtual guests Pooling Server Need 2x Server Subscription** Guest** Guest Hypervisor Server Customer already has server and supported hypervisor*. But needs to entitle 4 virtual guests that co-exists with other types of virtual guests** (eg Windows) Server Pooling*** Need 2x Server Subscription 9 * Supported hypervisors include RHEV (KVM), VMWare, and Hyper-V. Unless otherwise noted, diagramed hypervisors usually refer to supported hypervisors in this training ** Non- virtual guests, most frequently Windows Server *** Adding up subscriptions for instances is sometimes called pooling, as opposed to stacking for physical

SERVER Subscription: Entitling Mixed Physical+Virtual Environment Customer has server with 1 socket-pair. Needs to entitle both the physical server* as well as 2 virtual guests Server Need 2x Server Subscription Customer has server with 2 socket-pair. Needs to entitle both the physical server* as well as 3 virtual guests Need 4x Server Subscription Server * In this scenario Server on the physical server is used as a hypervisor which can support up to 4 concurrently running virtual guests ( (running or other OSes). More on virtualization later 10

SERVER Subscription: Re-purposing AWS* + Hypervisor Server Scenario #1: Customer has server with 2 socket-pairs entitled with physical OS using 2x Server subscriptions Scenario #2: Customer has mixed usage of 2 instances on AWS, plus 2 guests on top of a 3 rd party virtual environment The same 2x Server subscriptions can be repurposed for either scenario 11 * AWS Amazon Web Services, a popular public cloud provider and a Red Hat certified cloud provider

SERVER Subscription: More Repurposing Scenario #1: Customer has server with 4 socket-pairs entitled with physical OS using 4x Server subscriptions Cloud 3 rd party virtual environment Red Hat virtualization Hypervisor Server AWS Hypervisor Server Guest Guest Physical 12 More on tooling for tracking & reporting later

Updates to Enterprise Linux Add-Ons Add-On High Availability Resilient Storage Network Load Balancer Scalable File System High Performance Network Extended Update Support Smart Management Add-On Subscription Options Server Model* OSP Model** Server Model OSP Model Server Model Server Model Server Model Server Model OSP Model (Included in Premium Support) Server Model OSP Model * Server Model = 1 Socket Pair or 2 Virtual Instances ** OpenStack Platform = 1 Socket Pair + Unlimited Guests, price point is 2.5x *** Can be used with all 2013 options as well as RHOSP and RHCI 13

Add-On Pricing Table 1 Single High Availability Resilient Storage Smart Management Extended Update Support Each subscription provides one entitlement for a bare metal server for up to 2-sockets OR two entitlements for use with virtual machines. This is a stackable SKU i.e. two or more SKUs can be used to subscribe greater than 2-socket servers Eligible for use with Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (Physical OR Virtual Nodes) 14 Unlimited Guests Each subscription includes one entitlement for the bare metal server and unlimited Guests on a Server (2- Sockets, Stackable) running on a server for up to 2-sockets. This is also a stackable SKU i.e. two or more SKUs can be used to subscribe greater than 2-socket servers. This offering can be used with Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Virtual Datacenters, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Offering, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Openstack Platform and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure

Add-On Pricing Table 2 Load Balancer Scalable File System High Performance Network Each subscription provides one entitlement for a bare metal server for up to 2-sockets OR two entitlements for use with virtual machines. This is also a stackable SKU i.e. two or more SKUs can be used to subscribe greater than 2-socket servers. Introducing 2013 Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Promotional Offering 19

RHEV PROMOTIONAL OFFERING RHEV Hypervisor Dense virtualization environment that also desires Red Hat hypervisor: Customer has server with 1 socket-pair. Needs to entitle both the physical system with a full featured RHEV hypervisor, as well as to entitle unlimited number of virtual guests running on top of the hypervisor Need 1x RHEV Promo Offering Subscription RHEV Hypervisor Similar scenario as above, except server has 2 socketpairs. Stacking Need 2x RHEV Promo Offering Subscription 20 More on Virtualization later

Virtualization - background can play three different roles architecturally. Depending on the subscription option, can be used in one or more of these modes. Physical OS Virtual Guest OS Hypervisor Guest Guest Guest Guest Guest Guest Hypervisor Guest Guest Guest Guest Server Server Server Server KVM virtualization (Low density. <=4 guests*) Advanced virtualization (High density. >=5 guests) 21 * Concurrently running virtual guests of any OS (supported or unsupported)

Virtualization Updates to 2013 Subscription Options As Physical OS As Guest OS As Hypervisor Server (physical entitlement) Yes No KVM* 4*** Server (virtual entitlement) No Yes No NA for Virtual Datacenter No Yes No NA # of Guests Supported OpenStack Platform Yes Yes Advanced** Unlimited RHEV Promotional Offering Yes Yes Advanced** Unlimited * Leverages KVM hypervisor. Supports low guest density, <= 4 guests. Note: these refer to 4 concurrently running guests (running or other OSes) ** Leverages RHEV hypervisor. Supports high guest density, >=5 guests *** The guest support limit is not additive, ie. 2X Server physical entitlements acting as hypervisor on the same system still supports only 4 guests, and not 8 22

as Hypervisor: Number of Guests Supported by Different Subscription Options Guest Guest Guest Guest Customer has server. Wishes to use as hypervisor to support 4 or fewer virtual guests ( or non-)* Server Can use 1x Server Subscription for the physical entitlement (to act as host/hypervisor) 23 Guest Guest Guest Guest Guest Customer has server. Wishes to use as hypervisor to support 5 or more virtual guests ( or non- guest OS)* * Note we are not concerning ourselves with the entitlements of virtual guests in this context. Only that of the physical system X Server OSP or RHEV Promo Offering CANNOT use Server Subscription for the physical entitlement (to act as host/hypervisor). But can use 1x OSP or RHEV Promo Offering for that purpose

Introducing 2013 Red Hat OpenStack Platform 24

OPENSTACK PLATFORM: Individual Nodes OpenStack* w/ RHEV hypervisor Private cloud infrastructure buildout: Customer has server with 1 socket-pair. Wishes to turn this into a compute node as part of a larger server cluster capable of running numerous virtual instances on top. (This is a key component of the private cloud infrastructure buildout) Need to entitle the physical system with OpenStack (which manages the node and the overall infrastructure) powered by RHEV hypervisor, as well as to entitle an unlimited number of virtual guests running on top of the node Need 1x OSP Subscription OpenStack w/ RHEV hypervisor Similar scenario as above. Except the server node has 2 socket-pairs Stacking Need 2x OSP Subscription 25 * Technically this is OpenStack Nova which specifically manages the compute portion of the private cloud infrastructure

OPENSTACK PLATFORM: Putting Nodes Together OpenStack w/ RHEV hypervisor OpenStack w/ RHEV hypervisor OpenStack w/ RHEV hypervisor OpenStack w/ RHEV hypervisor Private cloud infrastructure buildout*: Similar setup as previous scenarios, except with four server nodes each with 1 socket-pair forming a larger cluster of virtualization environment Need 4x OSP Subscription * Note this is not a complete OpenStack implementation for private cloud infrastructure. Apart from Nova, other OpenStack components are needed such as Horizon, Swift, etc. See OpenStack training 26
