Nato il 1 agosto 1894 a San Martino di Colle Umberto, Ottavio Bottecchia detto il muratore del Friuli è un mito indiscusso del ciclismo. La sua breve carriera è coronata di successi importanti e internazionali. Indimenticabile la sua vittoria al Tour de France nel 1924; dove non solo fu il primo italiano a vincere il tour ma indossò la maglia gialla, proteggendola dagli avversari, dalla prima all ultima tappa. Splendido il primo posto anche l anno successivo che lo confermò fuoriclasse davanti a Buysse e Aimo.
