Glion Online Programs Residency FAQ v2.0 Glion Online Programs are pleased to offer students the option to attend one or two of their online courses as Residencies. The Residencies comprise 4 days of face-to-face instruction plus four weeks online study per course. Attendance at any of these residencies is entirely optional; requires the tuition payment in advance of the start of the course; students are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, meals and any other related costs. These Residencies are open to all online students eligible to take the courses offered. Please see below for full details; if you have any questions, please contact student support. The agenda for the residencies will be distributed to those who register. 1

Aims & Benefit 1. What do I learn at the residencies? The face-to-face residency aims to provide you with an opportunity to take one of our online courses in person (in addition to participating in discussions and submitting assessments online) and to benefit from being able to ask questions and receive answers in real time. Through the attendance at the workshop we also aim to enhance your intellectual and professional development through the provision of academic support. The residency also aims to provide a collegial forum for sharing and mutual growth. 2. What are the other benefits of attending the residencies? During the residencies, you will be able to meet your fellow student peers and the senior academic faculty in person. During the residency period, you will have the opportunity to complete the course in less time than the regular online course period would take. Time Requirements & Workload 3. How long does the residency last? The face-to-face Residency is scheduled to last 4 days, preceded and followed by some weeks online (for a total of 4 weeks online) in which to participate in discussions and submit assessments. If you are travelling a long distance, we recommend that you arrive the day before a residency starts. You can depart after the final session finishes in the late afternoon on the last day. Depending on your travel arrangements, you may need to stay an additional night (for example, if there are no suitable flights in the evening of the last day). 4

4. What is the daily schedule of a residency like? Will I have free time? You should not expect to have significant amounts of free time during the residency. The exact agenda for each residency will be published in advance, but your mornings and afternoons will have a full schedule from registration on the first day until the final session. 5. What work do I need to complete as part of the residencies? The exact work requirements and readings can be found in your online classroom and your Residency Teacher will also outline what is expected during the residency period and in the 4 weeks online. 6. Do the residencies involve any group work? Yes, it is possible that there will be group activities during the residencies. Details can be found in the Online Residency classroom. Assessment, Exemption & Extensions 7. Will I be assessed? Yes, you will be formally assessed. This assessment will be based on your participation in the face-to-face component of the Residency as well as the assignment submissions in the online classroom. 5

Location, Accommodation & Catering 8. Where do the residencies take place? The residencies take place in locations around the world. Students will receive information about the Residency location when they register. 9. Do I have to arrange my accommodation? You will need to make your own accommodation arrangements, which are also at your own cost. 10. Is it possible to extend my stay? You are free to stay longer subject to any visa limitations, but you should realize that extending your stay will not increase your contact time with the academic faculty who attend the residencies. 11. Am I allowed to bring guests? The residencies and the scheduled events are restricted to participants. 12. Do I have to arrange main meals, or are they provided? Students will be responsible for all meals and related costs. 13. What should I do if I have restricted mobility? The residency venue is suitable for people with restricted mobility, but you should inform the Student Support Team in advance. 6

14. What if I need medical assistance? Your hotel will be able to provide information on Doctors, Health Centers and Hospitals. It is your responsibility to arrange travel and medical insurance prior to arrival. Travel Arrangements 15. What if my flight is delayed or cancelled? Students should take out travel insurance covering themselves for any financial loss due to transport delays. Please also see the Policies section for the financial consequences of non or insufficient attendance. 16. What if I need a visa? What if my visa is delayed? You will need to arrange and pay for any visa required to attend the residencies. The Student Support Team can provide you with an invitation letter that you can use to facilitate applying for a visa. If your visa is going to be delayed, you should contact the Student Support Team immediately. When applying for your visa, please consider the amount of time it will take to receive your visa and make sure that it will arrive within the period of time outlined in the terms and conditions for cancelling the Residencies. If your visa is delayed, this is at your own risk; you are bound to the terms and conditions for the Residencies should you need to cancel your attendance. 17. What about travel insurance during my stay? Glion does not provide any insurance cover for students attending the residencies. You will need to arrange your own travel insurance. We recommend that you ensure your health insurance will cover your stay and repatriation should this be required. 7

Finance 18. What are the costs involved? The cost of the residency tuition and course fees is equivalent to the cost of a regular online course. Please note that if you are registering for 2 back-to-back residency courses, you will be invoiced accordingly and the amount will be equivalent to paying 2 online courses at once. Students are responsible for any extra costs incurred for travel, accommodation and food arrangements. 19. How will I be invoiced for the residencies? Students will receive an extra invoice for the tuition and course fees when they register for the Residency. 20. What is the payment deadline? Payment for the Residency should be made no later than 2 weeks before the start of Residency. Policies 21. What happens if I cancel the residency? Cancelling the residency may incur a cancellation fee, please see the Cancellation policy below. If you are not attending a Residency then you will be automatically enrolled for one of the regular online classes being offered that term, unless you tell us otherwise. 8

22. Are the residencies compulsory or optional? The residencies are optional. 23. What is the cancellation deadline? What are the financial penalties for a late cancellation? Cancellations may be made up to 2 weeks before the start of your Residency course with no financial consequences. Any cancellation after the cancellation deadline or non-attendance at the residency would result in a cancellation fee of 500 USD. You are fully financially and academically committed to the Residency from the moment you are physically present in the classroom. 24. Can I overlap a residency with a regular online course? It is not recommended that you overlap the residency with other online courses because of the workload. Please contact Student Support if you have any questions. 25. What is the code of conduct during the residencies? The same code of conduct is applicable during the residencies as in the rest of the online program. 26. What is the dress code during the residencies? During the week (Monday Friday) smart business dress is the Glion standard. For courses that fall on the weekend (Saturday Sunday) smart casual is advised. 9

27. Are the sessions public or available only for Glion Residency participants? The sessions are available only for registered Glion Residency participants. No guests are permitted. 28. Does the Residency replace any Courses on my Online Program? How is it possible that a Residency session can replace a regular 8-week-long online course? Each Residency course comprises 4 days of face-to-face instruction and 4 weeks of online study, which replaces one regular online course. In total, each residency course comprises over four days of intensive full-time academic effort and includes online discussion participation and assignment submission(s) with a deadline after the 4-day residency has ended. While the delivery of the course content is a different experience to that of a regular online course, Glion considers that the Residency is of equal academic value to one regular online course. 29. What happens if I registered for 2 back-to-back Residencies and I attend the first 4-day Residency, but cannot attend the second? If you choose to attend two residencies, you must attend and successfully complete each of them in order to receive the academic credits that will count towards your Glion Online Program. If you do not attend the second Residency after having attended the first, then you will only be eligible to receive the credits for that first Residency, keeping in mind that the assignment(s) for that Residency must also be successfully submitted and a passing grade achieved. If you have registered for a Residency and you are unable to attend, the cancellation policy applies and you will be charged the cancellation fee (please see the cancellation policy earlier in this document). 10

Since the Residencies are designed as an alternative to taking a regular online course, if you are unable to attend the second Residency, you must take (and pay for) the equivalent regular course online, next time it is offered. 30. Is it possible to do the Residencies in ADDITION to all of the regular online courses? While students are welcome to do any additional courses they wish; only the credits required for your Program will be attributed to your certificate/diploma/degree. 31. What if I am unable to attend part of a residency session, due to workrelated or health issues? Once the Residency has started, attendance is compulsory and you are fully financially and academically committed to the residency course. Exceptions can be considered on a case-by-case basis and the current online mitigations policy applies. If the mitigations request is granted, then this only applies to your academic commitment; you continue to be fully financially committed to the Residency course that you were attending. 32. Is it possible to reschedule? What is the deadline for rescheduling? How can I reschedule? If you decide to reschedule, the equivalent Residency or regular online course may only be offered later in the year. We recommend that you do not reschedule the Residencies, however, if you must reschedule then you may do so before the Cancellation deadline, which is 2 weeks before the start of the Residency. If you reschedule after that date, but before Day 1 of the Residency course, then you will incur the cancellation fee of 500 USD. If you will not be attending the Residency, then you will be automatically registered for the next regular online course, unless you specify otherwise. 11

Please contact the Student Support Team to discuss rescheduling so that they can inform you of how it will impact your study schedule. Getting Ready to Attend the Residency 33. I will need a visa, what should I do? Students are responsible for their own visa arrangements. You may request a letter from the Student Support Team, formally inviting you to the Residency. You can use this when applying for your visa. 34. Do I need textbooks? If your Residency requires a textbook, the e-book textbook code will be sent to your Student Email 1 week before the start of your Residency. You may download it to Vital Source, as is the current process for all e-books issued online. 35. Are there any Technical Requirements? You will need to bring a laptop with the Microsoft Office Suite. If you require WiFi internet access, this will be given to you. 36. Do I need to do any work beforehand? No, you do not need to do any work beforehand. You will receive access to the online component of your Residency course on the Friday before your Residency is due to start. You are welcome to post your Bio there, as is the common practice for all online courses. This online component lasts for 4 weeks and is the area in which you will be participating in 12

discussions and submitting your final assignment(s) after the 4-day face-to-face Residency has ended. 37. Do I need to bring my laptop? What else should I bring? You will need to bring your laptop, and any other things that you need in order to study. Do not forget that you will need a plug travel adaptor if your laptop s power cable plug is different from the Residency location s power sockets. Who Will I Meet There? 38. Who will lead the sessions? Can I receive the list of Faculty who will be attending and teaching the Residency? Can I read their Bio beforehand? All sessions are led by Glion Online faculty members. Detailed course syllabi and faculty bios will be made available before course start; however Glion reserves the right to substitute faculty members without notification. 39. Who and how many students are attending the Residency? Is there possibility for networking? You will have an opportunity to meet many other online students, both from your own cohort (those who started at the same time as you), and from other start dates and other online programs. Additional Support 40. Is there additional academic support beyond the Residency courses to address other academic issues? 13

You may ask any specific questions to your Teacher during the Residency course. The Student Support Team will also be available to you, should you require assistance in relation to your studies. 41. What if I would like to refer someone on to the program? Who should I contact? If you would like to refer someone, please contact the Enrolment Team who can guide you through the process. 14
