INTRODUCTION Cortex was founded in 2007 by a group of entrepreneurs, specialists in Maxillo Facial surgery, dentists, and other professional experts, all of whom have accumulated many years experience in surgery, consulting and training in others implant manufaturers worldwide. What has brought all these people together into a single group, is the vision, and the ambition, of founding an implant company which will offer innovative products embodying the world s most advanced techniques of design and finishing while at the same time giving maximum consideration to the needs of the clinician working in the field of dental implants. The targets which Cortex has set itself are as follows: 1. To offer innovative and patent-protected products. 2. To achieve the greatest possible precision in fitting the components which it produces. 3. To produce the cleanest possible surfaces, with the best possible morphology for osseointegration. 4. To produce an easy-to-use package, which will meet the strictest of sterilization standards. 5. To include in the package all the components required, to enable the practicing clinician to adopt whatever strategy he chooses, during the surgical procedure. 6. To simplify surgical and recovery procedures as far as possible. 7. To establish training frameworks, to reinforce the confidence of clinicians. 8. To share the knowledge and experience of clinicians worldwide. CORTEX IMPLANTS Cortex Implants are manufactured from Titanium alloys (Ti6Al4V- ELI). Material highly successful for the fabrication of dental implants due to is combination of mechanical properties such as low specific weight, high strength/weight ratio, high modulus of elasticity, high corrosion resistance and excellent general biocompatibility. The Cortex manufacturing plants operate in conformity with ISO Standard 2001, and with ISO 13485 (medical). They have undergone inspection of European Notified Body (CE 0473) for approval of the design, manufacture, and quality assurance systems of Cortex Implants, prosthetic components, and surgical tools. The company s products also have the approval of the U.S. FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION (FDA). At the present time, the Cortex Co. is completing registration and regulatory procedures in a number of other countries. AMAR Surface area of Cortex Implants The reaction of the bone to the implant is determined by the load, the morphology and by the modification of the surface chemistry in the nano scale. The roughness and microgeometry are achieved by sandblasting and acid etched. This surface developed with the collaboration of University, improve the bone contact implant surface (BIC) by increasing the envelope surface by 3 or 4 and improve the mechanical anchorage of the cells. 4
Laboratory tests Cortex carries out all the necessary laboratory tests and trials to ensure that production is of the highest possible quality. The company works continually with Universities and Professional Research Laboratories worldwide testing its implants or standards of precision of manufacture, materials fatigue, sterilization, chemical composition of metals and surfaces. One of the major factors in good osseointegration is the cleanliness of implant surfaces. X.P.S. testing has shown that the surfaces of Cortex implants are extremely clean, and that the components of greatest importance for osseointegration (titanium and oxygen) are present in them in a very high percentage a fact which further confirms the superior surface qualities of Cortex dental implants. All the company s products are marked with batch numbers, and all raw materials are monitored from the moment of their arrival in the manufacturing plant. All products are subject to strict quality control at all stages of production. Cortex products undergo a very severe sterilization procedure exposure to gamma rays at an intensity of 2.5 M.R. I.D., in accordance with the strictest requirements of the regulatory bodies, which have allowed Cortex implants a 5 year period of validity. The company has sufficient confidence in the quality of its implants and prosthetics, to offer them with a 15 year guarantee, on condition that they are used according to the company s instructions and regulations.
