Butler Transit Authority Transportation 101

Butler Transit - History Volunteers ran the bus service until 1989 when the service became an authority. The City of Butler and Butler Township joined forces to create the Butler Township-City Joint Municipal Transit Authority, also known as The Bus. An official name change took place in November 2006 to simply the Butler Transit Authority. Four routes were originally created and continue to run today with modifications. The Express route began service in the mid 90 s to help alleviate the crowded route one.

General Information BTA operates in Butler Township, Butler City and to the Clearview Mall in Center Township day and night. BTA operates four buses a day on five routes. Route 2 and 4 use the same bus and alternate back and forth. Routes are designed so buses connect at the terminal for passengers to transfer buses and routes. Routes 1, 3, and 4 connect Routes 2 and the Express connect

Downtown Terminal BTA s downtown terminal is located at 113 East Cunningham Street. All buses begin and end routes at the terminal. Terminal also serves as the pick-up and drop-off location for Myers Coach Lines.

Bus Fleet BTA operates and maintains 7 Gillig buses including the first ever standard floor converted trolley bus. BTA buses can hold between 29-36 passengers

Handicap Accessible All BTA buses are handicap accessible with lifts, seating and security straps.

Individuals 65+ Individuals 65 years and older ride free with the PA Senior Transit Pass. Funded by the PA State Lottery. Applications are available by mail or at the terminal. PA residence required and proof of age.

Fares One Way Discount (12 trips) Unlimited (30 days) Adult $1.00 $10.00 $40.00 Students (13-17) $1.00 $7.50 $30.00 Youth (7-12) $0.50 $5.00 $20.00 Children (under 6) Free Free Free BC3 Students $1.00 $7.00 Unavailable

Day Pass BTA now offers a day for just $2.00 Pass becomes valid when stamped by a transit operator so passes can be purchased in advance.

Free Transfers Free transfers are available at the Terminal and Pullman Square. Transfers are valid for one hour and ten minutes. One free transfer per paid fare. Ask your driver prior to exiting the bus for your free transfer.

Fare Collection Exact change, or transfer, or token is deposited into top of farebox as you board the bus. Passes are handed or shown to driver upon entry of bus.

Route Signs Bus signs are color coded with the routes and schedules and have a colored "dot" to identify the route bus that will stop there. Route 1 Red Route 2 Blue Route 3 Yellow Route 4 Green Express Orange

How to Ride Destinations are displayed on the front and the side of each bus. When your stop is approaching, signal the driver by pressing on the yellow strip by your seat, or the pull cord above your seat. That will trip a buzzer or bell to let the driver know you wish to stop and get off.

Safe Riding Tips Please allow riders departing the bus off before attempting to get on the bus. Our buses are equipped with special seats in the front of the buses for seniors and disabled persons to use and we ask that passengers keep these free for those who most need them. Keep the aisles clear by moving your packages and back packs under the seats or against your legs. There is also a 2 bag limit when riding The Bus. Passengers must be able to load and unload packages themselves.

Safety and Security BTA buses go through preventative maintenance to ensure they are in good running condition. For your safety and security, the terminal and all buses are equipped with video surveillance. All buses are equipped with cell phones and twoway radios for communication between the terminal and the buses and also for emergency calls.

Bike Racks All BTA buses are equipped with bicycle racks for convenience. Buses can hold a max of 2 bikes at one time.
