HOW IT WORKS POWER SUPPLY RADOME & ANTENNA HIGH-CAPACITY KA-BAND SATELLITE CORE NODE/NOC MODEM SERVER WIRELESS ACCESS POINTS GATEWAY INTERNET PARTNER DATA CENTER The ViaSat in-flight internet service leverages a global network of Kaand Ku-band satellites with automatic satellite coverage hand-over to keep passengers connected no matter where they fly. For passengers to connect to the in-flight internet, they simply connect their device to the aircraft s wireless network, which then communicates via several wireless access points to a ViaSat modem/server in the aircraft. The modem connects to ViaSat s advanced satellite antenna on the top of the fuselage to transmit data between the aircraft, satellites and groundbased gateway system to give passengers the freedom to shop, stream and enjoy a full internet connectivity experience just like they have at home. ViaSat s vertically-integrated network supports flexible business models that can respond rapidly to shifts in the airline and internet business landscape.
SHATTERING THE STANDARDS The ViaSat in-flight internet service has shattered the standard for in-flight Wi-Fi with unmatched speed, quality, and affordability. Airlines can now give every passenger access to internet streaming media, high-speed web browsing and productivity applications they have on the ground while establishing a sustainable competitive advantage with a highlydifferentiated in-flight connectivity and entertainment experience. SERVICE ADVANTAGES Best Wi-Fi In The Sky The ViaSat in-flight internet service is the only in-flight Wi-Fi delivering speeds 8 to 10 times faster than alternate services. Each passenger gets high-speed internet regardless of how many connect no contending for service, common with bandwidthconstrained providers. Designed to Meet Demand Only the ViaSat highcapacity Ka-band satellite network supports demand for data-intensive websites and streaming applications in the air and on the ground while enabling flight crew access to aircraft operational data. Unmatched Capacity & Economics Unmatched capacity and bandwidth economics allow airlines to offer a high-speed web browsing and internet streaming media experience at a competitively lower price or free to the passenger. Integrated Connectivity & Entertainment Connectivity and entertainment services are integrated with a passenger portal tailored for your airline, providing easy access across the internet, media content, flight information, and secured billing systems. BEST AVAILABLE GLOBAL COVERAGE With ViaSat, passengers get access to the best available in-flight internet service virtually anywhere they fly. The service seamlessly switches between ViaSat s global Ka- and Ku-band satellite network; comparatively resembling how a cellular service roams between LTE, 3G, and 2G networks. The innovative ViaSat in-flight internet system connects the aircraft to high-capacity Ka-band satellites in high-demand areas, while maintaining connectivity on the Ku-band network, which covers 85% of the world s most traveled air routes. By launching our own satellites worldwide and working with internationally-recognized satellite partners, ViaSat continues to build out the highest-capacity Ka-band satellite network to deliver a faster, richer internet service experience all around the globe.
