CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT & INTEGRATION TEXAS STATE TECHNICAL COLLEGE Executive Summary & Cost Estimate PROJECT OVERVIEW Based upon the specific online needs and desires of TSTC, develop a custom online presence content management system (CMS). The CMS will serve as the primary mechanism for managing and developing all TSTC marketing-oriented websites, across all campuses. Serving as a centralized management resource, the CMS will seek to provide the following purposes: Provide an authenticated common management resource for managing and administering TSTC s (system-wide) online marketing presence. Support the overall marketing effort of TSTC by developing a contentrich solution that separates the site management responsibilities of true content and design elements. Implement user-friendly solutions to allow for content-rich updates and development throughout all campuses and academic units. Allow for easy scalability of content-rich and web 2.0 related content (ie. video, social media, etc). Easily implement and integrate into TSTC s current web architecture and infrastructure, including allowing for easy updates and additional module add-ons in the future. IMPLEMENTATION The CMS will be fully functional and implemented/installed on TSTC s web server infrastructure. Upon phased delivery of the development modules, all final integration and implementation will be performed by both TSTC IT System engineers and Internet Imagineering, LLC (The Cowley Group). All future development modules and additional system-wide integration features will be developed and managed by TSTC unless otherwise noted by delivery of additional development requests to the developer (Internet Imagineering, LLC).
FEATURES & SPECIFICATIONS Content-Rich Management Solutions Developed using PHP and the powerful database engine MySQL, the CMS will efficiently deliver content-rich websites while providing a centralized and user-friendly management and support tool. Industry Standards Developed to integrate into all web-industry standards, including cross-browser compatibility, W3C, ADA Section 508, and high levels of overall usability. Modular Designed with Centralized Functionality Designed using a centralized development model, all functionalities and features will be easily scalable across various campuses and academic units. Web 2.0 Services Supports the development and integration of major Web 2.0 services and functionalities, including RSS management, online polls and surveys, image galleries, online multimedia, and the expansion into social media integration. Integration into Existing College Infrastructure Offers integration into existing protocols such as LDAP and SSL supported sites. Defined Roles for Site Management VS Content Management Provides defined administration roles for clear, concise, and efficient content management; at the same time, providing role responsibility based upon system status and overall site management role. Modular Design/Development & Add-Ons Developed using a modular and centralized development model, future development add-ons by TSTC IT System engineers is allowable, possible, and encouraged. Server and Client-Side Independence Developed as a fully-functional web-based content management solution, management and site updates can be performed virtually anywhere in the world at any given time all updates are dynamic and instant.
PROJECTED MODULES Fully-Managed User/Role Authentication and Responsibility Based upon the existing LDAP authentication system, users will be defined as specific role within the CMS, defining their access, role responsibility, and overall use of managing a specific system website. Multi-Campus and Multi-Site Management Built to support and manage the individual websites of virtually unlimited campus and individual academic units. SEO Friendly and Dynamically Driven Metadata Using specified content areas and the integration of SEO techniques, all individual content areas will be optimized for search engines. Discover Yourself Career Module Developed to specifically allow for user-friendly and content-rich management of all academic and career path content dynamically manages the career sections of the marketing-focused website. Interactive Image Management, including Online Galleries Easy image upload, management, display settings, and selection of online photo galleries. Display of Online Video Implementation of online video through the use of interactive playlists, channels, individually post-produced video files. (does not include streaming services or encoding setup). System-Wide/Campus-Wide Event Management Easily advertise and manage events across all campuses and academic units based upon user-roles and responsibility. System-Wide/Campus-Wide News Management Easily manage system-wide news stories using efficient and dynamic methods. Template Based Web Publishing To ensure consistent design layout(s) across all campus and academic units, the use of templates to control design elements and layouts are easily managed and implemented. ESTIMATED TIMELINE OF IMPLEMENTATION While consultation has already begun, the following timeline (estimated outline) will be used to phase in important functionalities needed to support the overall marketing campaign.
