An exciting start to 2015 has already seen The Fire Service College (FSC) launch a new stateof-the-art BA training facility, working together with Drager. We have welcomed a number of F1 teams to our incident ground to take the opportunity to advance the fire safety awareness of their crews. With the UK Rescue Organisation (UKRO) Challenge taking place here in July, 2015 is certainly an eventful year for the College. Here's a bit more of what's been happening recently and what else is coming up soon. FSC launches new BA training school in partnership with Drager The College recently opened a new state-of-the-art breathing apparatus (BA) training school which will be run in partnership with leading technology provider Drager. This will ensure that our ability to deliver assessed, accredited and assured training. At the launch Peter Dartford QFSM, President of the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) and Chief Fire Officer of Staffordshire FRS, who opened the school said, "The opening of this facility is a fantastic step forward in the transformation of the College and the investment in stateof-the-art equipment and facilities is another tangible demonstration of the progress that is being made to develop a true centre of excellence of firefighter training. CFOA is fully supportive of the transformation that is taking place at the College and of our partnership, which is delivering benefits to firefighter training and safety across the UK and beyond." Jez Smith, Managing Director of the College, commented: "This new facility is testament to the investment we are making in building a true centre of excellence for fire service training in the UK. It will enable us to train more delegates to a higher standard - ensuring that the public and firefighters across the UK are kept as safe as possible. Drager will be an integral delivery partner for the new facility. Our new partnership will further enhance the College's ability to deliver high quality, assessed, accredited and assured training in the most modern of environments." Mike Norris, Managing Director of Drager UK, said: "We are delighted to be able to strengthen the existing strategic alliance between the Fire Service College and Drager UK. The opening of this state-of-the-art training centre offers us a fantastic opportunity to develop further our relationship with the College and we wholeheartedly share its vision and aspirations for the new training facility to become the UK centre of excellence for firefighting best practice and in particular the use of Breathing Apparatus. We have worked closely with the Fire Service College for many years now, offering holistic solutions including equipment, specialist training and servicing and we look forward to doing so well into the future." CFOA endorses FSC Firefighter Development Programme The College is pleased to announce that its Firefighter Development Programme has been endorsed by the Chief Fire Officers' Association (CFOA). By achieving external endorsement of its learning and development programmes, the College continues to build a true centre of excellence, providing assurance that its training is independently assessed. External assurance also links in with the College's commitment to providing quality products and services to its customers who select the FSC as their preferred choice of learning provision. To meet its responsibilities in providing a quality learning framework, the College has created a dedicated team of education sector experts, who will provide the necessary support, training and guidance to instructors, assessors and internal quality assurance teams involved within the design, development and delivery of its programmes. This will ensure that the College maintains the highest levels of service and improvement expected by its customers in order to maximise return on investment. The programmes submitted to CFOA have undergone an internal quality assurance process to ensure they meet the requirements of Awarding Bodies, current National Occupational Standards and the needs of learners. FSC Learning, Development and Quality Assurance Team Manager, Petar Kacarevic, commented "This an exciting time for the College and we are delighted that CFOA has recognised the quality of learning we offer."he added "Over the next year, we will work with CFOA to achieve their endorsement of our courses wherever it is relevant to do so and will keep our customers informed of our progress." MCTU in action at the FSC If you haven't already seen the Mobile Carbonaceous Training Unit (MCTU) in action, we are holding a demonstration day here at the College on Tuesday 10th March, so you can come along and see what it can do. FRSs can hire the MCTU as a training capability to assess their BA wearers, or use it for BA and fire behaviour refresher training. Services can also choose to use either their own or FSC instructors to deliver training. BA hot fire wearing can be undertaken close to home, providing experiential training that will have an impact on both firefighter and public safety. It is environmentally friendly and incorporates a fully integrated fire gas extraction system, enabling carbonaceous burn training to take place almost anywhere, at a time to suit your requirements. Come and see how we can deliver cost effective solutions to your training requirements. To book for this event please contact our Business Development Team on 01608 812984 or email enquiries@fireservicecollege.ac.uk

Formula 1 fire training at the FSC The FSC recently opened its doors to the technological world of Formula 1 motor racing. A number of teams have now taken the opportunity to develop the fire safety awareness of their crews prior to commencement of the new season. The College has been working in partnership with the crews of the F1 Teams to deliver a safety criticalelement by providing a comprehensive day of theoretical and practical fire training. A fundamental theme throughout the F1 teams' experiences has been the emphasis on personal and team safety whilst delivering relevant hazardous material information on the hazards and risks within the innovative and technical arena of Formula 1. The crews benefitted from the practical application of techniques and correct equipment selection to minimise the impact of fire within the restricted areas of the pit lane and F1 team's garages. The training has been of great benefit for all concerned and the College would like to wish all of the teams a safe and successful season. Executive Leadership Programme The FSC welcomes the next generation of Fire & Rescue Service leaders who began the first module of the Executive Leadership Programme (ELP) 2015 at the College. Following the recent graduation of ELP 2014 delegates in December, January saw the start of the first module of the 2015 Programme, which has been designed to develop the skills and capabilities of those who already have management and leadership experience. Intersec 2015 A team headed by Jez Smith MD, with Jon Hall, Operations Director, Sir Ken Knight, Non-Executive Director, and Derek Luff, Overseas Project Manager, recently represented the College at Intersec 2015 in Dubai. Working with UK Trade and Investment at the world's leading international trade fair for Security, Safety and Fire Protection, their aim was to promote UK training excellence in the Middle East. Networking with a high level of existing and prospective customers at Intersec provided valuable opportunities to understand and secure other markets for the FSC, at the same time promoting the wide range of training and consultancy that the College can offer. Sir Ken Knight commented "The UK is still regarded as a leader in the provision of training for fire and rescue services worldwide. Working with the College in Dubai it was gratifying to see the interest that it attracts. It was also beneficial to spend time with Middle Eastern colleagues exploring opportunities to grow their capability".

Tune into the College on the BBC The FSC recently captured the attention of the BBC as Jon Hall, Director of Training, updated listeners on what's been taking place at the College. The interview covered Intersec Dubai 2015 and highlighted how the College is now also working with Formula 1 motor racing teams to develop critical fire safety awareness of their crews.
