2007 NAREIT leader in the light Recognizing Excellence in Energy efficiency NAREIT (National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts), in collaboration with ENERGY STAR, will honor its member companies that have demonstrated superior and sustained energy use practices. The NAREIT Leader in the Light award recognizes company-wide operations which generate substantially improved energy efficiency and expense management. All NAREIT members are encouraged to apply for a 2007 Leader in the Light award. To be considered, an organization must complete an online application by Friday, September 14, 2007. Winners will be recognized at the NAREIT Annual Convention, November 14-16, in Las Vegas, NV. Application Instructions Complete the application and submit via online, fax or by mail. Make sure to respond to the entire award criteria specified in the application. Provide specific information about your efforts in the most recent 12 months. While planned activities for 2007 or beyond are of interest to NAREIT, they should not be the focus of the award application. Should you provide additional information (annual reports, articles, etc), please send 4 copies of each piece of material to: NAREIT Leader in the Light Award 1875 I Street, NW, Ste. 600 Washington, DC 20006 Scoring: Applications will be judged by a panel of three experts from the fields of academia, business/finance, and ENERGY STAR. Confirmation of Receipt: Upon delivery of each application, NAREIT will confirm receipt to the e-mail address from which the application was sent. If you do not receive confirmation within one week of sending your application, please contact Meghna Mathur at 202-739-9400 or at mmathur@nareit.com. Notification: There will be three winners determined by the judges in the category of Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Winners will be notified by October 29, 2007.

Leader in the Light Application p.2 Section 2 Financial and Environmental Value Of Energy Achievements Describe how your organization translates energy savings into financial, environmental and business equivalents. Illustrate the organization s efforts to strategically communicate achievements to all stakeholders, such as: tenants, industry peers, staff, shareholders, board of directors, investors, etc. Examples of translating and communicating the value of energy achievements include, but are not limited to: Results equivalent to increasing profit margins or net operating income by X% Energy cost savings resulted in an additional $X earnings per share and the creation of roughly $Y in shareholder value (www.energystar.gov/fvc) Asset value of property increased by X million dollars Environmental benefits of energy saved (www.usctcgateway.net/tool) Integrating energy program with corporate communications / investor relations Highlighting accomplishments in staff and client communications Including achievements in annual reports, investor conference calls, and press releases Section 3 Portfolio-Wide Energy Use Complete the table below. For benchmarking, use either the US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) energy performance rating (insert hyper link to www.energystar.gov/benchmark) or other commercially available utility tracking/auditing method.
