Course Description: This subject supplies for students knowledge about some modes of transportation such as by sea, by air, by rail, by road and the content of incoterms 2010 to know that whom the booking rights belong to, the exporter (or the importer). Moreover, the subject also lists some shipping lines, Airlines in Vietnam at present, nature of insurance and risks as well, damages and current import-export cargo insurance conditions, insurance policy, principles and procedure when buying insurance. Thanks to that, students can learn steps needed to claim payment when there is damage and structures to calculate indemnity. D. Course Objectives: No. Course Objectives 1. Supply basic knowledge to learn next specific subjects well. 2. Execute jobs related to foreign transportation, forwarding and insurance 3. Apply knowledge of transportation, forwarding and insurance to procedure of carrying out a sales contract.

4 Help students with having abilities of working for insurance company, shipping lines, Airlines, foreign trade forwarders after graduation. E. Learning Outcomes: No. Learning Outcomes Understand Incoterms, modes of transportation (by Sea, Air ), process of cargo 1. import-export. 2. Calculate the freight of sea and air transportation Know types of documents used normally in foreign trade and essential roles of 4 those kinds of documents. 5 Get familiar with foreign trade terms such as: FOB, CIF, BAF, YAS, CY, CFS Perform jobs related to transportation: booking by Sea, booking reservation by 6 Air and prepare necessary documents. Know some shipping lines, Airlines in Viet Nam at present so that students can 7 apply transportation techniques which has just been taught right away Know the roles and responsibilities of freight forwarder in international trade and 8 know forwarding processes Understand clearly various risks, different damages in insurance (in which case, 9 which risks, which damage, which conditions the insurer will pay indemnity?) Buy insurance by themselves and know ways, procedure to solve damages in 10 insurance. 11 Know how to calculate premium, indemnity F. Instructional Modes: This subject is implemented by lecture and students are divided into small group to do exercises. Types of classroom period 1 Theoretical classroom 36 2 Field Trip 09 Total 45 1. Lecture: The lecture time is 30 periods, spends 12 weeks; it means that there will be a theoretical class in every week. Teachers lecture in English and note some special terms in Vietnamese. Before going to school, students read stipulated chapter of the textbook in the course outline first. Besides, students must read more materials and transportation and insurance documents of companies in English. Students go to class to observe and listen to definitions, difficult or important ideals of each chapter stressed by lecturer and update practice knowledge at present. If students have problems from above step 1 to step 3, they need discuss with their friends or bring them to class to debate with others in the exercise period. 2. Presentation and exercise 06 periods is for presentation and exercises, there is one period every week after the theoretical time.

After the theoretical time, students practices exercises and answer questions in the textbook (as said in the course outline) to check whether they understand the lessons or not. As to presentation, students will be divided into small groups, not more than 10 students each group to do topics assigned by lecturer. Before the time for making presentation, students should learn practical issues related to their topic as much as possible. After a group makes presentation, students in class and lecturer make questions and discuss with each other to make clear all key problems of the topic. In the semester, students will do a major exercise to get marks in week 14. At the end of exercise period, the lecturer will summarize all main ideas so that all the class will have more knowledge about this topic. Description of learning outcomes assessment Students learn the transportation and insurance will be remarked by three ways: 1.1 Exercise: Students do exercises after each theoretical chapter. 1.2 Major assignment: i. Students are divided into many groups, each group consists of less than 10 students. Every group will make research and make presentation about one topic assigned by lecturer. ii. This is the work of the whole group, so students will be remarked as one group, which means that all students in the same group will receive the same marks for the result. If any member sees that one student in group doesn t contribute to the result, please inform the lecturer to solve the problem. In he can t bear this situation, he can do the assignment by himself. iii. The mark of presentation replaces for the mid-term mark. 1.3. Test at STC: individual assessment at Tan Cang STC with 30% of the total grade. 1.3 The final test: The final test will extend 90 minutes. The test will include multi-choice questions and essay. This test will check both theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge as well. Students are prohibited from using documents. 2.
