Dr. Clifford Kottman is Vice President and Chief Scientist of the Open GIS Consortium. Prior to OGC, Cliff served as Director of Geospatial Programs for The MITRE Corp., as Executive Manager for lntergraph Corp., as Senior Scientist for Lockheed, as Mathematician, Cartographer, Physical Scientist, and Program Manager, for the Defense Mapping Agency, and as Associate Professor of Mathematics for Oregon State University. Dr. Kottman specializes in standards of all types that support automated cartography and Geographic Information Systems. He has published numerous papers of original research in topology and functional analysis, and on the evolution of open GIS systems. Dr. Kottman will speaking on "Stories about GIS and Transportation". He will tell some (make-believe) stories that expose the transportation GIS of the future; how it will work, who will pay for it, who benefits, where and how it can be broken, and how to strengthen it so it won't break. 2
