What is 2X LifeCyclePlus? 2X LifeCyclePlus allows organizations to prolong the life of their Windows XP installations in a secure manner. 2X LifeCyclePlus enables administrators to convert existing Windows XP workstations into a powerful 2X ApplicationServer XG and 2X SecureRemoteDesktop client, yet still allowing users to run locally installed applications and administrators to configure the workstations. By installing 2X LifeCyclePlus on Windows XP workstations businesses can have peace of mind since all unnecessary services will be disabled thus making Windows XP workstations secure. Installing 2X LifeCyclePlus Minimum Requirements You need to have Windows XP Service Pack 3 to be able to install 2X LifeCyclePlus on an XP workstation. Installing 2X LifeCyclePlus Note: You should be logged in with an account that has administrative privileges on the Windows XP workstation to install 2X LifeCyclePlus. Close all other Windows programs before running the installation. 1. Download the 2X LifeCyclePlus installation file from the 2X Website and double click it to launch the installation Figure 1-2X LifeCyclePlus Setup 2. Agree to the End-User License Agreement and click Next 3. If you do not want to install 2X LifeCyclePlus in the default folder, specify a new folder and click Next 4. In the Advanced Settings enable or disable the following options: a. Add firewall rules required by LifeCyclePlus; enable this option for the installation to automatically configure the Windows XP firewall to allow the 2X LifeCyclePlus to communicate with the 2X ApplicationServer XG 4

Note: If the option above is enabled the installation will automatically block ALL other services from the firewall and leave only those required by the 2X LifeCyclePlus. You can allow additional services through the firewall at a later stage during the installation. b. Disable services not required by LifeCyclePlus; enable this option for the installation to disable all Windows XP services that won t be needed while running the 2X LifeCyclePlus Figure 2-2X LifeCyclePlus Setup Advanced Settings 5. Click Next and Install to start the installation. Once the installation starts you will be prompted with a list of blocked and allowed services configured on the Windows XP Firewall, as shown in the below screenshot. At this stage you can allow additional services through the firewall other than those needed by the 2X LifeCyclePlus. 5

Should you be prompted to upgrade the Microsoft RDP Control click Yes to automatically upgrade the Microsoft RDP Control to the latest and most secure version 7. When prompted to install the 2X SingleSignOn component click Yes so the 2x LifeCyclePlus can automatically use the logged in credentials to connect to the 2X ApplicationServer XG 8. Restart the computer once prompted to finalize the 2X LifeCyclePlus installation. 6

Getting Started with 2X LifeCyclePlus Introduction Once you complete the installation, reboot and login to your Windows XP you are prompted to setup a 2X ApplicationServer XG connection, as shown in the below screenshot. Figure 4- Add a new connection dialog in 2X LifeCyclePlus Note: Only the 2X LifeCyclePlus administrator account can create new 2X ApplicationServer XG connections, as described in the below procedure. Setting Up a 2X ApplicationServer XG Connection To setup a 2X ApplicationServer XG connection on 2X LifeCyclePlus follow the below procedure: 1. Once prompted enter the Administrator password. The default 2X LifeCyclePlus administrator password is 2xPa$$w0rd 2. From the File drop down menu click Add New Connection to launch the New Connection wizard and select 2X ApplicationServer XG 3. In the Connection Properties dialog, specify the IP or FQDN of the 2X ApplicationServer XG and specify the connection mode as seen in the below screenshot 7

Tick the option Use System Credentials (SSO) so the logged in user is automatically used to authenticate and connect to the 2X ApplicationServer XG. Alternatively disable the option and specify the connection details. 6. Click OK to create the new connection. Once the connection is setup you can access the published applications, desktops and other resources on the 2X ApplicationServer XG as seen in the below screenshot. For more information about configuring the 2X ApplicationServer XG connection and the different connection modes available refer to the 2X Client Manual in the 2X Documentation page. 8

Managing 2X LifeCyclePlus Introduction To manage the 2X LifeCyclePlus and configure it and the XP operating system you need to be logged on as administrator by switching to the Admin mode. Switching to Admin Mode To switch to 2X LifeCyclePlus admin mode right click the 2X icon in the task bar and from the menu select switch to admin mode. The default 2X LifeCyclePlus administrator password is 2xPa$$w0rd. Switching to User Mode To switch back to user mode from admin mode right click the 2X icon in the task bar and from the menu select Switch to user mode. Changing the 2X LifeCyclePlus Admin Password To change the password of the 2X LifeCyclePlus administrator account follow the below procedure: 1. Right click the 2X icon in the taskbar and select change application admin password 2. In the Change Administrator Password dialog specify the old password and the new password in their respective input fields 3. Click OK to proceed and change the password. Allowing Users to Access Locally Installed Applications To allow users to run locally installed application on the Windows XP workstation follow the below procedure: 1. Specify a name for the application in the Alias input field 3. Click the browse ( ) button next to the Path input field to browse to the application 10

4. Specify any command line arguments the application might need to start up in the Command line arguments input field 5. Once the application is published, it will be available under the Local Applications node as seen in the below screenshot. Figure 8- Accessing locally installed applications in 2X LifeCyclePlus Configuring the Windows XP Machine As a 2X LifeCyclePlus administrator you can also configure the Windows XP machine. From the Machines Settings icon in the top task bar you can: Configure the Mouse properties Configure the Display properties Add, modify or delete printers Launch the workstation s Task Manager Launch the workstation s Control Panel Launch the workstation s Command Prompt Launch the workstations Windows Explorer Configuring 2X LifeCyclePlus Options Click on the Options icon in the top taskbar to configure the 2X LifeCyclePlus options. From the options you can configure several generic options, such as logging, connection refresh rate, updates and more as seen in the below screenshot. 11

Figure 9-2X LifeCyclePlus configuration options From the Advanced Settings tab in the Options dialog you can configure several other options related to the 2X LifeCyclePlus, such as language, certificates warnings and other display options. 12

Managing Connections on 2X LifeCyclePlus Introduction To create new connections and manage existing ones you need to be logged in as the 2X LifeCyclePlus admin by switching to the Admin mode. For more information on how to switch to admin refer to the section Switching to Admin Mode on page 10 of this manual. Managing 2X ApplicationServer XG Connections In a 2X LifeCyclePlus installation you can configure multiple 2X ApplicationServer XG connections. From the File drop down menu you can manage the 2X ApplicationServer XG connections. You can: Import or Export Settings (using *.2xc files typically used in 2X Remote Desktop Client) Add, Modify or Delete a 2X ApplicationServer XG connection For each 2X ApplicationServer XG connection you can configure several other options such as the display settings, local resources (sound, redirection of local devices), network connection settings from the Connection Properties dialog. For more information about configuring the 2X ApplicationServer XG connection and the different connection modes available refer to the 2X Client Manual in the 2X Documentation page. 13

Assisting 2X LifeCyclePlus Users Remotely Introduction To ease the process of assisting users using 2X LifeCyclePlus you can connect to XP workstation remotely using the 2X Client, as explained in this chapter. Retrieving the XP Workstation IP Address To assist a 2X LifeCyclePlus user remotely you need the IP address of the XP workstation to connect to. The IP address of the XP workstation can be retrieved from the 2X LifeCyclePlus by selecting Control Version from the Help drop down menu, as can be seen in the below screenshot. Figure 10-2X LifeCyclePlus Control Version Assisting 2X LifeCyclePlus Users Remotely By default the 2X LifeCyclePlus installation is listening on TCP port 50005, therefore to connect to it remotely follow the below procedure: 1. Open the 2X Client and from the File drop down menu select Add New Connection 2. From the New Connection dialog box select Standard RDP and click OK 3. In the Connection Properties dialog box configure the below list of settings, as can also be seen in the below screenshot: a. The IP address of the workstation in the Primary Connection input field b. Port 50005 in the Port input field c. Untick the option Use System Credentials (SSO) d. Specify the 2X LifeCyclePlus credentials in their respective fields. The default credentials are: i. Username: Admin ii. Password: 2xPa$$w0rd 14
