Riara School of Business Courses The School of Business provides a variety of market focused, highly competitive and accessible programmes to its students, aspiring professionals, executives and the general public. At present, these include Professional Development Courses, Diploma and Bachelor of Business Administration programmes. Professional Development courses: These are focused and highly practical; short courses that are suitable for professionals, executives, leaders and the business community who intend to upgrade their level of skill and proficiency in specialized areas. Since such people generally operate under tight schedules, these courses are highly flexible and of short duration. Diploma Programmes: The School offers Diploma courses in specialized areas, with durations ranging from one and two years. Mode of delivery/ duration of the programme The Riara University BBA programme will be offered in both day and evening modes. The programme duration is 8 Semesters for both full-time and part time students, each semester consisting of 15 weeks, over a four academic year period. The minimum full-time load is 4 course units per semester and the normal load is 6 while the maximum load is 7 courses. Learning Resources Learning Spaces At Riara University, we have designed diverse learning spaces that ensure that learning is seamlessly integrated with fun. We have invested in a wide variety of learning spaces to facilitate different methods of learning. You will find formal lecture halls, well-equipped labs and a Library with traditional reading areas as well as spaces and furniture that can be re-configured to allow learning through group work, drama and role-play.
Library & IT Resource Centre Riara University s ultra-modern library provides a personalized, high quality service to support the University s teaching and research programmes and to encourage the development of creative and independent thinking. It features a comprehensive, robust ICT infrastructure including: a server; digital library; WAN and LAN; hardware (computers); software (LMS); security systems; wireless Internet access; fibre optic backbone; IP telephony and e-mail services; and website. The Library also benefits from a comprehensive, university-wide ICT set up that is fully equipped with the latest materials and resources carefully sourced from different parts of the world. Research will be adequately catered for by the state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure that is projected to have one of the fastest Internet speeds and the most diversified e-library in the region. Applications and Admissions At Riara University, we are committed to providing a fast, efficient and fair admissions process that accepts students of outstanding achievement and potential. All applications are addressed to the Academic Registrar. Minimum Entry Requirements for Admission to the School of Business: Applicants for the Bachelor of Business Administration degree programme must be holders of: KCSE (or equivalent) mean grade of C+ with a grade of C plain in English and Mathematics; or two principal passes in KACE/ EAACE/GCE-ALEVEL with credit passes in Mathematics and English in the KCE or GCE Ordinary Level. Exemptions will be granted to holders of the following qualifications: Certified Professional Courses such as ACCA, CFA, CPS, CPA, CIM, CIMA (Post graduate level), AKIB and CIPS; Ordinary and Higher National Diploma Certificates. Applicants seeking admission in to the Diploma programme must hold at least a mean grade of C (plain) in the KCSE with a grade of C in English and Mathematics.
Applicants seeking admission into the Higher Diploma programme must be holders of a Degree or an ordinary Diploma. How to Apply Applications for admission to Riara University should be made using official application forms which can be collected from the office of the Academic Registrar or downloaded from: www.riarauniversity.ac.ke/download All duly filled application forms should be returned with copies of relevant certificates and a personal statement attached. This should be accompanied by a nonrefundable application processing fee of Ksh. 2,000/= for Kenyan citizens and nationals of the East African Community. For international students, the application processing fee is Ksh. 4,000/=. Assessment of Applications All applicants for admission to Riara University will be assessed against the set entry criteria for the programme. Riara University application assessment methods will vary between programmes, but may include: KCSE results, IGCSE/GCE/IB results. English is the language of instruction in all programmes of Riara University. Students who qualified in a system where English is not the language of instruction must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or other relevant and commensurate test. At Riara University, we are dedicated to providing a high level of applicant care and all admissions are made without undue delay. In this respect, applicants are advised to ensure that the application form is fully completed. Credit Transfer Riara University accepts credit transfers according to the existing Rules and regulations.

Student experience at Riara University The Riara University experience goes beyond academic life to ensure an enriched personal development programme. This is provided for through a wide range of activities of choice including Community Service, Sports, Recreation, Clubs and Societies, all of them student-driven. Student Externship Students at the School of Business will undertake Industrial Attachment (IA). Career Preparation and Placement In addition, Riara University Dean of Students Office will, in collaboration with reputable bodies, activate a Career Preparation and Placement Programme that will seek opportunities for work placement for our graduates in a wide range of local and multinational organizations. Students from the Eastern Africa region will soon benefit from the abolition of the requirement for work permits within the East African Community.
Community Service Sharing is a fundamental tenet of the Riara University philosophy and experience. Indeed, Community Service is a core course for all students enrolled in the University. Our Community Service programme offers creative and exciting ways for students and staff to discover and exercise their passion. Each year, Riara University students and staff will have the opportunity to contribute skills, time and other resources on a broad range of community projects, with activities including classroom support and entrepreneurship coaching in local schools and SMEs, running activities and events for disadvantaged people, and environmental projects. Travelling to Riara University Riara University is accessible by many means of transportation. For air travel, it may be most convenient to use Nairobi s JKIA, located less than half an hour s drive from the University. The Wilson Airport is also located barely 15 minutes drive away. Driving to the University from the Nairobi City Centre will take you just under 20 minutes through the Uhuru Highway and then into Mbagathi Road. Alternatively, you may take Haile Selassie Avenue, cross the Uhuru Highway at the roundabout and join Ngong Road, drive up to Kenyatta National Hospital and then take a left into Mbagathi Way to the University. The area is also amply served by public service vehicles # 16 and #34, all available at their termini in the City Centre. Financial Matters Tuition Fees All Riara University programmes are competitively priced, offering great value for money for all its students. To help students, the University may consider allowing fee payment plans. Financial Aid Admission to Riara University is open for all applicants, ensuring equality of opportunity for low- and middle-income students. Student grants and work-study programmes may be provided to successful applicants. Riara University also offers a wide range of scholarships and bursaries to students applying for undergraduate programmes. These are merit-based and are tenable from the second year of study. This policy applies to both domestic and international applicants. However, as a licensed and accredited private university, students admitted to Riara University may be eligible to apply for state loans such as under the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), as well as from commercial banks, employers and other funding agencies.
