CKLN Regional Collaboration & Capacity Building A Summary CKLN funded a Regional Collaboration Workshop where stakeholder representatives from the Tertiary Education Community reviewed current initiatives and recommended future activities to encourage regional collaboration. Funded a Regional Consultation on Quality Assurance (QA) and Accreditation issues with representatives from National Accreditation Agencies, TLIs and QA specialists. Funded a Regional Consultation for the integration of ICT into the teaching and learning process with representatives from the Ministries of Education and TLIs. Established the CKLN Regional Institutional Strengthening Advisory Committee (CRISPAC) and National Advisory Committee of Jamaica to provide high-level guidance to CKLN s institutional strengthening programme. Antigua and Barbuda Worked with Antigua State College stakeholders towards the development of institutional & ICT strategic plans for the development of Open and Distance 60 faculty members trained in course conversion and usage of the Moodle 5 members of faculty and administration visited Canadian TLIs to strengthen Faculty of the Antigua State College and Antigua & Barbuda International Institute of Technology received IT Operations and Server hardware and computer equipment provided to strengthen Antigua State College s ICT infrastructure. procured for Antigua State College. Barbados Conducted Needs Assessments at Barbados Community College, Erdiston Teachers College and Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic to determine their ICT capacity to support the teaching and learning process. 40 faculty members trained in course conversion and usage of the Moodle 1

Faculty of the Barbados Community College and Erdiston Teachers College received IT Operations and Server hardware and computer equipment provided to strengthen Barbados Community College, Erdiston Teachers College and Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic s ICT infrastructure. Provided Moodle LMS hosting to Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic. Belize Worked with University of Belize stakeholders towards the development of an institutional strategic plan for the development of Open and Distance Partnered with the University of Belize in the submission of a proposal to the European Union for the establishment of a National Research Education Network (NREN). Conducted Needs Assessments at University of Belize to determine their ICT capacity to support the teaching and learning process. University of Belize led the collaborative development and delivery of an online ICT literacy course with 3 other regional TLIs. 170 students have taken the course to date. Faculty of the University of Belize received IT Operations and Management training. Provided Server hardware, networking & computer equipment provided to strengthen University of Belize s core ICT infrastructure and to increase student access to ICT resources. Dominica Worked with Dominica State College stakeholders towards the development of institutional & ICT strategic plans for the development of Open and Distance Faculty of the Dominica State College received IT Operations and Server hardware and computer equipment provided to strengthen Dominica State College s ICT infrastructure. Grenada Worked with T.A. Marryshow Community College s stakeholders towards the Open and Distance Funded the development of a case study on Options For Financing Tertiary Education In Grenada. 30 students enrolled and completed online ICT literacy course collaboratively developed with 3 other regional TLIs. 3 members of faculty and administration visited Canadian TLIs to strengthen 2

Faculty of T.A. Marryshow Community College received IT Operations and Server hardware and computer equipment provided to strengthen T.A. Marryshow Community College s ICT infrastructure and to support the creation of a Distance Education Centre. procured for T.A. Marryshow Community College. Guyana Conducted Needs Assessments at University of Guyana to determine their ICT capacity to support the teaching and learning process. Faculty of University of Guyana received IT Operations and Management training. Server hardware and computer equipment provided to strengthen University of Guyana s and Cyril Potter College of Education s ICT infrastructure. Jamaica Worked with Moneague College, Excelsior Community College, Brown s Town Community College, CASE and Shortwood Teachers College stakeholders towards the development of institutional & ICT strategic plans for the development of Open and Distance CKLN team conducted assessments at 15 TLIs to determine their ICT capacity to support the teaching and learning process 245 faculty trained in the integration of Web 2.0 technologies into curriculum. 32 participants from 8 community colleges participated in workshop-retreats to complete the development of the Council of Community Colleges of Jamaica (CCCJ) s Integrated Strategic and Operational Plan. 38 faculty and administrators from 19 TLIs participated in ICT Distance Education Strategic Planning and Online Course Training Workshop. 20 faculty members trained in course conversion and usage of the Moodle Training provided to faculty from community colleges and CCCJ in online course conversion. Funded online course conversion workshop for Consortium of Institutes of Teacher Education (CITE) faculty. Funded the provision of course conversion services to UTECH to assess the effectiveness of outsourcing these services. Funded the development of the HR management course in the Bachelors in Business Studies being piloted by UTECH. 52 faculty and administrators from 15 TLIs participated in a workshop to discuss issues concerning the implementation and management of an automated Student Records Management System (SRMS). Funding the development of an online Apiculture (Bee Keeping and Honey Production) course. Staff of Joint Board of Teacher Education (JBTE) and CCCJ received IT Operations and Montserrat Worked with Montserrat Community College stakeholders towards the Open and Distance Server hardware provided to strengthen Montserrat Community College s ICT infrastructure. 3

St. Lucia Worked with Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC) s stakeholders towards the development of institutional & ICT strategic plans for the development of Open and Distance SALCC piloted 1 of the initial 2 courses offered through CKLN support (Knowledge and Information Management). Funded the development of institutional, academic, administration and infrastructure policies to enable TLIs to implement and deliver Open and Distance Faculty of SALCC received IT Operations and Server hardware, networking & computer equipment provided to strengthen SALCC s ICT infrastructure. St. Kitts and Nevis Conducted an initial and follow-up Needs Assessments at Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College to determine their ICT capacity to support the teaching and learning process. Faculty of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College received IT Operations and Server hardware provided to strengthen Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College s ICT infrastructure. procured for Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College. St. Vincent and the Grenadines Worked with St. Vincent Community College stakeholders towards the Open and Distance Conducted a Needs Assessments at St. Vincent & the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) to determine their ICT capacity to support the teaching and learning process. 30 students enrolled and completed online ICT literacy course collaboratively developed with 3 other regional TLIs. Faculty of the St. Vincent & the Grenadines Community College received IT Operations and Server hardware provided to strengthen St. Vincent & the Grenadines 4

procured for St. Vincent & the Grenadines Community College. Suriname Conducted a Needs Assessments at Anton de Kom University to determine their ICT capacity to support the teaching and learning process. Networking equipment provided to strengthen St. Vincent & the Grenadines The Bahamas Faculty from the College of the Bahamas (CoB) and Ministry of Education engaged by CKLN as participants in regional workshops for course development in Caribbean Arts and Culture, IT. Administrators from CoB participated in a workshop to discuss issues concerning the implementation and management of an automated Student Records Management System (SRMS). 20 faculty members of CoB and the Baptist College of the Bahamas trained in course conversion and usage of the Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) in online course delivery. Faculty of CoB received IT Operations and Providing consultancy services to develop CoB s capacity to deliver critical programmes to the Family Islands. 20 faculty members of CoB and the Baptist College of the Bahamas trained in course conversion and usage of the Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) in online course delivery. Conducted an assessment of readiness of CoB to deliver Open and Distance Consultants contracted to assist CoB in the development of an institutional strategic plan and a framework for online course development. Networking equipment provided to strengthen St. Vincent & the Grenadines Trinidad and Tobago Faculty of University of Trinidad and Tobago and College of Science, Technology & Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago received IT Operations and 19 faculty members of College of Science, Technology & Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago trained in course conversion and usage of the Moodle 5
