Welcome to the SCAF Workshop 9 th May 2012 In 1963 Ivan Sutherland at MIT, the University of Massachusetts created one of the first CAD systems by showing that it was possible to manipulate the lines and curves of an oscilloscope with a light pen. The development of CAD systems has ever since been a struggle between companies, who has been trying to convince us user to select their system. In 1978 Francis Bernhard at Dassault Aviation got the mission to find a way to create 3D information in a computer. After scanning the market, Francis Bernhard decided to create a tool of his own. After a few years of work he could actually present a solution that he called CATI, Computer aided Three dimensional interactive (Assistée par ordinateur en 3 dimensions interactive). In 1981 Dassault Aviation started the Dassault Systémès and the only product for Dassault Systemes was CATI. During the worldwide registration of the patent, Dassault Systemes discovered that it already existed a product in Japan with the name CATI and a registration was impossible to do. The issue went back to Francis Bernhard who had to decide about a new name. He didn't need to think much about it. He told the market department to put an A last, the A stood for Application. So CATIA means Computer Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application. In 1983, the first user association of CATIA users was created. It later became the European CATIA User Association, the ECUA. The association was quite powerful and gathered around 1000 users each spring from the middle of 80 s and for some ten years, somewhere in Europe. In 1997 it was put on hold since Dassault Systemes presented their European CATIA Forum at Disneyland in Paris, an event for more than 1500 participators. Today SCAF is the only organization in the Nordic Area but there are sister organizations both in France and in Germany. And who knows, some day we might experience a European user conference again, with people from the different corners of Europe. But until then, you are most welcome to SCAF Workshops and Conferences. This spring we can provide you with the top specialists within methods, tips & tricks and you will be able to meet them and discuss all kinds of solutions for your specific CATIA problems. In October we will meet again. Our Nordic SCAF 2 day's conference is coming up and it will be an opportunity for you to meet many representatives from our Universities in Sweden. But now it's time for you to enjoy our presentations at SCAF Workshop. Don't hesitate to be an active part of it! Welcome to SCAF! Bo Nilsson Chairman of SCAF

Our main speakers: Christer Lindman, Cross Design AB Presentation Christer has worked since 1982 with production and product development and has 25 years experience in CAD / CAM (Catia) mostly in the automotive industry (air, Cars, buses and trucks). After 10 years as a designer, he started working with methodology in Catia V4 and V5. Christer has always been interested in the whole process from product development to production of the finished part. As the industry is constantly chasing lead times in product development process with all it implies, for example, many computation and processing loops with subcontractors, one interest woke up to work in a smarter way in Catia. The goal was to help to shorten lead times for the design engineers without disturbing his daily business when changes is coming up, and also make it easier for contractors when they should prepare model documentation. Since 2003 working Christer at Cross Design AB included in NetGroup Engineering AB. He is working with VCC and Volvo from their satellite offices to Technical Manager / Project Manager.
Our main speakers: Peter Berntsson DreamTeam Engineering AB Biography Peter Berntsson has worked since 1993 with CATIA. Between 1993 and 2000 he worked as a design engineer. In 1999 he started to learn CATIA V5 and in the end of 2003 he had educated more than 30 different customers in CATIA V5. In the end of 2004 he supported a new chainsaw project with CATIA V5 filebased at Husqvarna AB and this was the start of the methodology work with CATIA V5. Today Peter is working with support and methodology at SAAB AB.
Our main speakers: Daniel PYZAK, Dassault Systèmes Biography Daniel Pyzak is graduated in Mechanical Engineering. He has over 30 years of experience in CAD/CAM/CAE/PLM. After positions held in technical support and product management in various CAD/CAM companies (Cisi, Cisigraph, Matra Datavision), he joined Dassault Systèmes Provence in 1999 to manage the Competency Center. The main activities of DSP Competency Center are around Tooling, Manufacturing, Reverse Engineering and Rapid Prototyping. Since more than 7 years now, he s managing the European CATIA Technical team, dealing with the full spectrum of CATIA solutions... and just loves his customers!
