A program of study for any resident of any public or private institution able to receive mail from an accredited institution recognized for the State Department of Education. Residents may apply for admission to approved programs of study leading toward either a degree or non-degree diploma.
What program is offered? The initial undergraduate program of study is the Resident Associate Degree Program earning an Associate of Biblical Studies (60 semester credits) with advanced students eligible for the Resident Bachelor Degree Program earning the Bachelor of Theological Studies. Transfer students with an associate degree from a public or private institution or General Education courses as prescribed by the State Department of Education may be eligible to earn degrees in Arts or Science. ACCREDITATION Organized January 1, 1991 and chartered July 26, 1994, Smith Chapel Bible University, a Florida Not for Profit Corporation, governed by Florida Statutes under the Commission for Independent Education, which has statutory responsibilities in matters about nonpublic, postsecondary, educational institutions: Pursuant to Chapter 1005.06, Florida Statutes, neither Smith Chapel Bible University nor any other faith-based institutions are under the jurisdiction of the Commission. The statutes simply requires Smith Chapel Bible University to provides a sworn affidavit attesting that training is to prepare students for religious vocations as ministers, professionals, or laypersons in the categories of ministry, counseling, theology, education, administration, music, fine arts, media communications, or social work. [ ] ADMISSION EX 130 Student Assessment (3 Sem. credits) Description: This course assesses your previous academic programs, references, autobiographical information and other documents related to admission. [ ] HISTORY HIS 430 Manners and Customs (3 Sem. credits) Description: This is a course that will provide the student with an understanding of the manners and customs of the people during the time period covered within the Bible. During this time the student will be exposed to the socio-economic, ethno-archaeological, and anthropological aspects of these times. [ ] BIBLICAL STUDIES BIB 430- The Pentateuch (3 Sem. credits) Description: The course design offers a textbook commentary, often on a verse-by-verse basis, on each of the five books, plus a general introduction to the Pentateuch as a whole. BIB 432 - The Historical Books (3 Sem. credits) Description: The course design offers a new upgraded and expanded edition of this wellknown volume. It deals with the twelve books of the Bible from Joshua through Ester, and intended as a textbook, a commentary, a reference source, or a study manual. BIBL 434 Four Gospels (3 Sem. credits) Description: The course design offers a study manual, textbook-commentary, and reference source organized as a chronological harmony of the life of Christ in the four Gospels. Each Gospel introduced individually, and its distinct contribution recognized throughout. BIBL 436 Eschatology (3 Sem. credits) Description: This course offers a comprehensive overview of the Bible s account of the future. You will be able to explain and evaluates divergent views alone with the futurist position. Explore topics including approaches to the study, rapture, second coming, intermediate state, tribulation, resurrection, judgments, millennium, and the eternal state.
BIBL 438 - Dialectical Method (3 Sem. credits) Description: You are required to work with texts that demand the use of skills from three basic genre strategies in biblical interpretation: poetic, narrative, and didactic analysis. Attention is given to the classical (historical, material, cultural, lexical) and contemporary (pre-understanding, biblical theology, application) aspects of interpretation based on the Dialectical Method. [ ] CHRISTIAN MINISTRY CMIN 440 Sunday school (4 Sem. credits) Description: Sunday school has come a long ways from being a means of educating children to providing biblical teaching to children and adults and equipping the church for discipleship. Sunday school then becomes an essential tool for the church. It shapes and prepares us to accomplish His purpose. Being prepared enables us to meet whatever oppositions that come (Pratt, 1997). COUN 490 - Introduction to Christian counseling (3 Sem. credits) Description: This course is an introduction to nouthetic counseling. It is designed to provide pastors, Christian counselors, and lay persons a general approach and some specific responses to particular problems. This course shows God s intent and purpose for using His Word and the Holy Spirit in counseling as demonstrated in the scriptures. Using biblically directed discussions, nouthetic counseling works by means of the Holy Spirit to bring about change in the personality and behavior of the counselee.
