INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF BioBeam TM Acne BioBeam ACNE is a Class 2A phototherapeutic medical device and complies with Annex VI of the Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC and is CE certified (CE 0473). BioBeam ACNE has been found to be a fast and effective help treatment for acne. Acne- the Disease and its Symptoms Acne is an inflammatory condition of the skin characterized by blackheads, white heads, small pimples and inflamed pustules which appear most often on the face (forehead, cheeks, chin), but can also appear on the shoulders, chest and back. Acne is caused by blockage of the pores of the skin resulting from a build up of dead cells and sebum which is an oily excretion produced by the sebaceous glands which nourish the hail follicles. Until puberty, these glands almost do not function. At puberty, the androgenic hormones stimulate these glands and cause increased secretion of sebum, which appears as shiny, oily film on the skin. This is a normal process which lubricates the skin. In some cases, skin pores through which sebum is excreted become blocked. If the blockage occurs in the outer layer of skin, black heads are formed. White heads appear if the blockage occurs at the inner layer of the skin. Very often, the hair follicle releases its sebaceous content on the surface of the skin and causes inflammation. One can see redness, red pimples or infected pimples.

Acne appears most frequently in adolescence (age 12-20) however adults in their twenties and thirties can also suffer from this condition. Important for Acne Treatment: Without treatment, there could be persistent inflammation and premature aging of the skin manifested by scars, wrinkles, cracks and constant inflammation of facial skin. Many studies show that acne which is left untreated, especially medium to serious cases, lead to psychological scars such as: low self-esteem, inferiority complex, even depression. With BioBeam ACNE, we use pure narrow band red light to speed healing of acne lesions. BioBeam ACNE was developed following 5 years of experience with BioBeam 660 which was used to treat various skin lesions and has now been adapted specially to treat acne. In recent years, clinical trials evaluating the effectiveness of BioBeam in the treatment of Acne have been performed in ISRAEL and other countries. The results of these works were presented at an International Congress which took place in Canada (1992) and were enthusiastically received in medical circles. The following conclusions came out of the above studies: 1. The device was found to be an effective treatment for acne in the inflammatory stage. 2. One can see positive results within 3-6 weeks of starting treatment. Positive results depend on closely following enclosed instructions. If you miss one treatment, do not stop! Continue at the first possible moment. 3. In treatment of 6 weeks: 20% of the patients were completely healed. 50% of the patients showed major improvement. 20% of the patients showed minor improvement

4. In cases of severe ACNE, it is recommended to combine antibiotic together with BioBeam treatment. Patient s improvement according to Burton s Scale Treatment with BioBeam is compatible and, in fact, has been shown to enhance other conventional treatments of the disease. Because BioBeam greatly increases wound healing, its use together with conventional medications can decrease the duration of treatment necessary with medication. Treatment with BioBeam is safe, painless and sterile. (From the study performed by Dr. Avikam Harel and Dr. Gideon Earon presented at the 6 th International Conference of Pediatric Dermatology in Toronto in 1992.) Installation and Use: (numbers in parentheses refer to drawing) 1. Plug the AC adaptor (7) into the BioBeam ACNE device using the plug (1) at the end of the cord (a round plug with a hole in the middle). Do not use any other power supply. Important: Use only the power AC adaptor supplied by the BioBeam ACNE manufacturer.

2. Make sure the operation switch (2) is in the OFF position. 3. Plug the AC adaptor into the correct voltage wall outlet (see voltage indicated on the AC adaptor). Warning: Keep your eyes protected during face treatment by using the special goggles enclosed (6). 5. Hold the instrument at a distance of 2.5-3 cm from the treated area, for coverage of an area approximately 2-3 cm in diameter. Each area of this size should be illuminated for 6-8 minutes. Treatments are recommended twice a day. The instrument can be kept at the correct distance from the face by use of the enclosed ring (5) which should be touching the face. 6. To operate, move the operation switch (2) to the CW position. A green indicator light (3) lights up while the BioBeam ACNE is in use, signifying that the device is working properly. If this indicator light begins to blink, the BioBeam ACNE is not working properly and

must be taken in for servicing. 7. After treatment is completed, move the operation switch (2) to OFF and only then remove the AC adaptor (8) from the wall outlet. 8. Flexible extension arm: The arm is sold separately in its own package. The flexible extension arm allows hands off treatment of hard-to-reach areas (such as the back).
