Gift of LLC On-Line Bible Institute Student Handbook ( School Years 2014 2015) Mission and Vision Gift of Life LLC On-Line Bible Institute was born with the mission to spread the Gospel around the world through teaching of the Written, Spoken and Revealed Word of God. Our mission is to prepare students for success in expounding on the fivefold ministry of God, equipping them to have the mind of Christ and effectively work as ambassadors for the Kingdom of God. They will be reapers ready to win souls and save lives through covenant relationship with God and man. Let s Start at the Basics What is On Line Learning or Distance Learning? Online learning, sometimes referred to an e-learning is a form of distance education. Online courses are delivered over the Internet and can be accessed from a computer with a Web browser (ex. Internet Explorer). What To Expect Our online courses can provide you with the opportunity to be Kingdom Prepared from the leisure of participating in classes from the comfort of your home. Students are expected to participate in on-line discussions and activities on a regular basis. Your group classmates on an assignment may be from anywhere around the globe, e.g., China, Europe, India, or America. Online courses are not easier or less work than face-to-face classes. Each student will be responsible for their own learning. Basis Computer Skills Needed For On Line Learning Navigate and search the Internet Use e-mail Attach document files in an e-mail Download and save files Use word processing software (Basic Microsoft Word) Many students may need to refresh their basic computer skills or learn basic computer skills to be successful. Many local libraries offer free basic computer courses. Courses are usually short-termed, ranging from 2 to 4 hours and many can be repeated multiple times. 3

Do online courses meet at a set time? Generally, no. There isn't a designated time for students to be online, as long as they meet the participation and due date guidelines for the specific course. The following is an example of what a syllabus may say regarding student presence: "For participation credit, students must present in the discussion forum four days each week and respond to four peers for each discussion question. Student s post must be meaningful contributions. Your viewpoint must be explained before it s counted toward participation credit. Quizzes are due on Fridays at 11:59p.m. and written assignments are due on Sundays at 11:59p.m." Under these guidelines, students can go into the classroom and discussion forum, anytime they choose, as long as the deadlines are met. The days and times are up to the student. What kind of Internet access do I need for an online course? You must have regular, reliable high-speed Internet access if you are to succeed in an online course. Make sure you have a back-up plan (use of a campus, library, work, or a friend s system). You may experience problems with your own computer or your Internet Service Provider. Can I get technical help with my online course if I need it? Yes, you can. If you run into technical problems or error messages using our Blackboard classroom, student email, or passwords, email us at giftoflifeministries@gmail.com. In your email, please be very descriptive in detailing your problem(s). Do I need a web cam and microphone for my online course? Yes, most computers or laptops have webcams and microphones capabilities. Many online courses require you to create video responses to assignments. In Gift of Life Ministries Bible Institute, we will be using AnyMeeting. We will be using this system for video conferencing. Website Information for Successful Internet Interaction The website below offers eleven helpful hints for how to properly sit at a computer during your classroom or study time.
