How to Prevent Children from Browsing Improper Web Page within the Time Limit If parents want to limit their children not accessing into Internet within a period of time (e.g., PM11:00 ~ AM 8:00) and prevent them from browsing any improper web pages, follow the steps listed below. Here, we choose Vigor2710n as an example. Step 1: Get the MAC Address of the Computer that Children Use Enter into MS-DOS screen and type the command of ipconfig/all. You will get a window similar to the following figure. The MAC address can be seen in the line of Physical Address. Step 2: Bind the IP address and MAC address of the Computer that Children Use Access into the web configurator of the router (usually 192.168.1.1), and open LAN >>Bind IP to MAC. 1

(1) Click Enable to activate such function. (2) Use the Add button to add the IP and MAC address of the computer that children use. (3) The new added IP bind with MAC will be shown on the IP Bind List. (4) Next, click OK. Step 3: Make Sure the Router s Time is the same as PC s Time Open System Maintenance>> Time and Date and check Time Information. If required, click Inquire Time to get the current system time; if Time Zone is not correct, use the drop down list to choose the correct one (based on the location of the router installed). Step 4:Configure the Schedule Open Applications >> Schedule. In which, the combination of Start Time and Duration Time shall not be over 24. If yes, it is necessary to be divided and configured with two schedule profiles. In this case, the time period of PM11:00 to AM8:00 is not permitted for Internet access. Therefore, configure two schedule profiles to meet the request. 2

For the first part, PM 11:00 to Midnight 12:00, please click Index #1 (1) Check Enable Schedule Setup to enable such schedule profile. (2) Configure Start Time (23:00) and Duration Time (01:00). (3) Click Weekdays and check the days you want (from Sun to Sat). (4) Next, click OK. For the second part, Midnight 12:00 to AM 8:00, please click Index #2 Except Start Time (00:00) and Duration Time (08:00), other settings shall be configured the same as above. 3

Step 5: Configure the Firewall Open Firewall>> Filter Setup. Click Index 2 to edit Default Data filter. When the following page appears, perform two types of filter configuration. For the first filtering type of denying Internet access from PM11:00 to AM8:00, please click button #2 to open the following page. 4

(1) Check the box of Check to enable the Filter Rule to enable such filter rule. (2) Type the name (in this case, time limit) of the rule in the field of Comment. (3) Type the profile number of the schedule you want (in this case, 1, 2). (4) Check the Enable box for Clear session when schedule On to enable this function. All the sessions will be cleared when the selected schedule profiles are enabled. (5) Click Edit to enter or modify the source IP address (in this case, the range is 192.168.1.10 ~192.168.1.11). (6) In the field of Filter, choose Block Immediately. (7) Finally, click OK to finish the firewall configuration. For the second filtering type of prohibiting children browsing improper web page, please click button #3 to open the following page. (1) Check the box of Check to enable the Filter Rule to enable such filter rule. (2) Type the name (in this case, Kid Protection) of the rule in the field of Comment. (3) Click Edit to enter or modify the source IP address (in this case, the range is 192.168.1.10 ~192.168.1.11). (4) In the field of Filter, choose Pass Immediately. (5) In the field of Web Content Filter, choose the WCF profile (in this case, 1-Default). Note: Please purchase the formal license of CSM, for the trial version of such service is one month only. (6) Finally, click OK to finish the firewall configuration. 5

Step 6: Test Result of Web Content Filter (WCF) Now you can test if the above configuration is successful or not. Use the computer that the child uses and open any browser to type http://www.sexx123.com/. If you can get a page similar to the following figure, it means that the web content filter has been configured successfully and can work normally. Now, all the settings are configured completely. Within the time limit, the children can not access into Internet and can not visit any page which is improper for them. Brief Introduction for Web Content Filter (WCF) Open CSM >> Web Content Filter Profile. A profile with name of Default will be offered for all the routers supporting CSM. 6

Click Index #1 to review the default settings. Note that all categories under Child Protection are checked in default. You can check or uncheck the categories according to the actual needs. 7
