MEDICAL FACULTY YUZUNCU YIL UNIVERSITY 65080-VAN-TURKEY Faculty of Medicine consists of three parts as Basic Medical Sciences, Internal Medicine and Surgery Medical Sciences. The students graduated from this faculty have the title of medicine doctor. The first three years of the education, based on passing class system contain Basic Medical Sciences, the next two years contain training and the last year contains intern. The aim of medical education of Yüzüncü Yıl University is to train qualified physicians who can diagnose and treat well, good at communicating as well as feature the preventive medicine and public health. In addition, to provide scientific and quality health services for community to contribute to the research of universal knowledge and to contribute to health applications for a better public health. The purpose of medical education of Yüzüncü Yıl University is to be leader about Medical Education and a presentation of research and health services in national level. Besides, in international level to be appear in well-known Faculties of Medicine. To take at least 360 credits (ECTS) course and training from Faculty of Medicine courses and trainings, and to be successful by taking at least 60 points out of 100. The students are admitted in accordance with the rules of the Council of Higher Education and Yüzüncü Yıl University. Measurement and evaluation methods applied for each course and training is determined in accordance with the rules set up by Regulation of Education and Examination of Yüzüncü Yıl University Medicine Faculty. History of Faculty and Introduction Yüzüncü Yil University, Faculty of Medicine was established in 1992 according to Law No. 3837. The first students were admitted in 1995 and graduated in 2001. The students graduated from this Faculty have received a diploma with the title of Medicine Doctor. In addition, MSc and PhD educations are also provided by Basic Medical Science with The Institute of Health Science. Faculty has 63,000 square meters covered area which of 15,000 square meters is belong to Basic Medical Sciences and 48,000 square meters to Research and Application Hospital. Academic staff of the faculty consists of 18 Professors, 32 Associate Professors and 68 Assistant Professors, and 210 Search assistant. Faculty of Main Medicine, 38 continues to work on their majors at Department of Internal Medicine and Surgery. Research and Application Hospital that consist of 26 policlinics and 11 labs has provided high quality services to our city and region. YÜZÜNCÜ YIL UNİVERSİTY THE HOSPİTAL OF MEDİCAL SCHOOL (Dursun Odabaş Medical Center) Dursun Odabaş Medical Center which offers finest quality medical service with its talented, equipped, cheerful medical personnel, is one of the most important integral part of Van province in terms of medical services. For long years including in all Van and Hakkari provinces and major parts of Muş, Bitlis, Şırnak, Ağrı, Iğdır, Siirt provinces, offering third step medical services to almost 4 million people, having 650 beds capacity it is an advanced health institution. Towards aiming to reach the best in medical services our hospital, in addition to its paying importance to medical services, espoused as a duty to respond all wishes of patients with quality control programs.

Operating Rooms In our hospital there are 10 operating rooms which have modern medical equipments. In our operating rooms all operations including microscopic, endoscopic, arthroscopic and laparoscopic operations are applied successfully. Operating rooms and related areas are vented using sterilized air condition system. In operating rooms which have excellent technical equipment, thera are central oxygen, nitrogen protoxide, vacuum and air conditioning systems and thus operations are provided to be actualized at optimum conditions. Furthermore anesthesia applications which are one of the most important vital parts of all sorts of operations, are applied meticulously by an expert team in our hospital. The existance of our Surgical Intensive Care Unit constitutes a vital assurance in all operations. Hemodialysis Unit Hemodialysis Unit is the biggest hemodialysis unit of the region with 30 devices. Service is provided to our patients by professors, associate professors, assistant professors for 7 days in a week. Our patients are taken from their homes by the vehicles that are provided by our hospital, and they are dropped their homes again by vehicles after completing dialysis. Condition and Physical Structure ofour Hospital Yüzüncü Yıl University Dursun Odabaş Medical Center is an advanced medical center which offers third step medical services to almost 4 million people including in all Van and Hakkari provinces and major parts of Muş, Bitlis, Şırnak, Ağrı, Iğdır, Siirt provinces, having 650 beds capacity, having 50.000 m2 closed and 175.000 m2 open area and having a helicopter landing field for emergency cases. In our patient rooms there are full automatic patient beds, tv, fridge, separate bathroom for each patient that has hot water for 24 hours, hospital attendant armchair and wardrobes which are equally good as hotel comfort. Our service stations provide services in each branch with experienced professors, associate professors, assistant professors, nurses and other personels.

Oncological Diognastic and Treatment Unit In our medical oncology department cancer diagnostic and treatment is carried out by especially field instructers, lecturers and expert doctors. Chemotherapy servise for outpatient treatment is applied in modern treatment clinics.linak with IMRT and other current radiotherapy methods are applied in radiation oncology department. Intensive Care Units We have 110 intensive care beds in total. 1. Surgical Intensive Care Our intensive care unit is equipped with the ventilators with which all kinds of monitorization are made to patients and which are used in case of need. Anesthesiology and reanimation experts who are scholars in intensive care are served in the intensive care units. 2. Internal Intensive Care The patients who need intensive care in internal branches are provided attentive service. 3. Coronary Intensive Care The patients who have heart complaints such as coronary failure, heart attack etc. or who undergo a cure like vasodilatation or placing a stent are followed closely in this modern unit with 15 beds. 4. Neonatal Intensive Care Our neonatal intensive care unit which has the capacity of 17 beds provides essential support by favor of our 4 doctors to all of the infants in our region who need intensive care. With its modern medical instruments and in the view of up-to-date information, it brings the babies together with their families in a short time. The services provided in the neonatal intensive care unit Cardiovascular Surgery Department By using the leading technological opportunities of not only the country but also the world and with its specialist staff consisting of academicians, it provides

the most successful solutions to the cardiovascular diseases which require surgical treatment. Especially with the specialist staff experted in adult heart surgery, cardiovascular surgery department provides service at concert pitch in by-pass surgeries, cardiac valvular surgeries and aortic surgery. While experienced cardiac anesthesia staff and the intensive care unit equipped with all kinds of advanced life support devices make important contribution to the success rate of the surgeries performed in the clinic, the comfort of the sickrooms provides that the patients go through postoperative process most properly. Our Laboratories Our hospital studies all of the parameters which are necessary for our hospital and our region with its pathology, hematology, biochemistry, microbiology and parasitology subunits. Owing to the genetic diagnosis test, genetic diseases can be diagnosed. Our blood center is the only center which can prepare donor blood products apart from the Red Crescent blood center. Our hospital provides service to our region in the plasmapheresis unit. Bone Morrow and Kidney Transplantation In cooperation with the departments and the units, our hospital practices bone marrow and kidney transplantation contemporarily and conveys new advancements in the fields of bone marrow and kidney transplantation and does essential and practical researches and develops new techniques in this field and provides organs and does studies aimed at raising awareness of all segments of the society. In our ophthalmic clinic, all kinds of ophthalmic surgery have been performed successfully. Visual disorders are treated with Excimer Laser.
