The Expert Navigators in Maritime, Transportation and Insurance Law

Isaacs & Co. is one of Canada's leading full-service maritime, transportation and insurance law firms and concentrates on all areas of maritime law and related civil litigation. Representing a wide range of domestic and international clients in all sectors of the industry, we focus on all facets of the business from the buying and selling of ships, preparation of shipping contracts and insurance claims to the litigation of marine conflicts of all types. We also handle transportation issues in general including trucking and cargo travelling via rail and air. Our depth of experience and expertise goes far beyond maritime and transportation matters. We also represent a variety of insurance companies in a number of different lines including commercial, home and auto, liability, boiler and machinery and other specialty lines. Whether we are handling a transportation or insurance case, our philosophy is to achieve the absolute best results for every client. We constantly strive to forge strong and enduring relationships with leaders in the maritime, transportation and insurance communities, and we work hard to understand their businesses and objectives. Our aim is to help our clients achieve those objectives, not by meeting their expectations, but by vastly exceeding them. The Expert Navigators in Maritime, Transportation and Insurance Law

One of Canada s leading full-service maritime and insurance law firms Maritime and admiralty law concerns the shipment of goods by sea and all facets of maritime transportation from shipbuilding and supply to cargo damage and accidents that occur on the high seas or on Canada s inland waterways. Our firm has built a solid reputation on its expertise in maritime and admiralty law. In fact, in March 2006 and again in May 2010, Canadian Lawyer magazine named Isaacs & Co. one of Canada s leading boutique law firms in the area of maritime law. We offer more than just the successful resolution of marine conflicts, both in and out of court. Our practice handles everything that affects the shipping business from marine casualties to marine insurance claims, from commercial transactions to charter-party arbitrations. We bring our clients sound, costeffective solutions. When it has been necessary to go to trial, we have had tremendous success. We also have a significant practice in providing advice in the commercial setting for our shipping clients. Our services range from daily legal advice to the shipping industry and the drafting of shipping documents to the negotiation and completion of major vessel transactions affecting a shipping business.

As part of our active maritime practice, we regularly become involved in other aspects of transportation litigation including trucking, rail and air cargo transportation. Transportation Law We handle cargo damage and loss cases on behalf of cargo insurers, trucking companies, freight forwarders and others involved in the transportation of goods. We frequently accept subrogation recovery cases from cargo insurers and recovery agencies on a no-cure, no-pay basis which minimizes risk and cost of litigation to our clients. In addition to our well-known expertise in marine and transportation insurance, Isaacs & Co. maintains a vibrant and varied practice representing a wide range of insurance companies and insurers in a number of different fields. Experts in Insurance Law We have also defended a wide variety of matters on behalf of insurers from slip and fall claims in grocery and retail stores to serious motor vehicle accidents, building fires and complicated product defect claims. We regularly represent insurers in commercial lines, such as commercial general liability, product liability, commercial auto fleet, equipment breakdown insurance, boiler and machinery insurance, professional errors and omissions insurance and personal lines such as home and auto. However, Isaacs & Co. is much more than just a typical insurance defence firm. We are frequently called upon to provide insurers with coverage opinions in all lines of insurance including home and auto, equipment breakdown, commercial general liability and professional errors and omissions. We also give advice on policy coverage and defend insurance coverage applications on a regular basis. As well, Isaacs & Co. has been involved in the drafting of policy language on behalf of leading insurers. Isaacs & Co. also maintains a significant subrogation practice. Although this service initially started with marine cargo claims, it has rapidly expanded to include all types of claims where the insurance company is subrogated to the rights of its insured and is seeking to recover for the loss.

Exploring innovative solutions to a wide range of legal challenges At Isaacs & Co., we do much more than just maritime, transportation and insurance law. We regularly handle personal injury, environmental and general and commercial litigation matters. Commercial and General Civil Litigation Environmental Law We handle a variety of litigation outside the transportation and insurance fields including complex commercial litigation relating to business enterprises, breach of contracts, employment, personal injury and other disputes. Our expertise includes disputes over the sales of land, collection of debts and wrongful dismissal cases. Our maritime practice calls for our involvement in oil or hazardous substance pollution incidents such as spills of hazardous cargoes, fueling mishaps or the discharge of pollutants into the environment. For many years, we have acted for petro-chemical companies, shipping companies and insurers, dealing with issues and litigation over oil leaks and remediation efforts.
