Fachhochschule Dortmund General information for international applicants on studies University Applied s and 1. Structure studies With emphasis placed on practical experience, studies at Fachhochschule Dortmund prepare students for everyday demands pressions in the design, computer sciences,, social sciences and business sectors (see pages 5 7). The teaching language is predominantly with the exception European Master in Project Management, International Business - Managing Diverse Markets and Embedded Systems for Mechatronics. Those are English taught master courses in the business department and information and electrical department. Please te: For the dual programmes studies a contract for a vocational education or practical training in y is necessary before enrolment. courses usually take six to eight semesters and master studies two to four semesters (including final thesis). 2. Entry requirements a) A secondary school graduation certificate (certificate eligibility for institutes higher education; the equivalent Abitur). Applicants whose graduation certificates do t automatically qualify for studies at a institute higher education are required to undergo an assessment test, the so-called " Prüfung zur Feststellung der Eignung ausländischer Studienbewerber für die Aufnahme eines Studiums an Hochschulen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland " (Feststellungsprüfung), in order to demonstrate they meet the required standards in both subject and language skills for admission to studies at a institute higher education (see. 5). The Studienkolleg provides a two-semester preparatory course for this assessment test. b) Pro adequate language skills, equivalent either to a university language priciency test (DSH-2 or DSH 3, achieved at an university t at a private language institute) or TestDaF (Test as a Foreign Language) with a minimum 16 points or more in all four parts (also if one result is on niveau 3). The TestDaF is an external test language competence, fered in y and abroad. The TestDaF can also be taken at Fachhochule Dortmund. Online registration (www.testdaf.de) is required, the test fee payment will be made by direct debit from TestDaF Institute. Fachhochschule Dortmund also accepts language tests from other institutes like Das Deutsche Sprachdiplom der Kultusministerkonferenz Zweite Stufe (DSD II), Goethe-Zertifikat C 2: Großes Deutsches Sprachdiplom (GDS) etc. Further information about the language requirements you can find here: www.fh-dortmund.de/deutschpruefungen. For questions concerning the acceptance certificates please contact the International Office. c) An industrial placement (einschlägige praktische Tätigkeiten), compulsory in Programmes architecture, vehicle electronics, mechanical, vehicle, social work and in all bachelor programmes the departments design and business administration. As a general rule, placements cant be arranged by Fachhochschule Dortmund. An enrolment without industrial placement is t possible. 2 d) Applicants for the bachelor courses at the departments design and architecture are required to prove that they have the needed level artistic-creative aptitude (Verfahren zur Feststellung der künstlerisch-gestalterischen Eignung). The online application for the aptitude in architecture ends on April 15 for the WS 16/17. The online application for the aptitude in design ends on March 1. Deadline for submitting the complete application for study together with copies graduation certificates to the International Office is July 15. e) Admission to International Business Studies which includes study abroad is, as a rule, only possible for nationals from the European Union because possible problems with visa. Requirements are among others a test for (see point 2. b) and English skills based on the niveau B1. These English skills could be confirmed by the high school entrance certificate, transcript records in the subject English or an exam from a language institute. International applicants with qualification for university matriculation (Bildungsinländer), from Member States the European Union (EU) and from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as well as applicants from n-eu countries with a spouse or parent. For the above-mentioned international applicants the procedure is as follows: They apply for all study courses (bachelor and master) online at Fachhochschule Dortmund; deadline July 15 for the winter semester and January 15 for the summer semester. Entry requirements to degree courses with an admission restriction (Numerus clausus = NC) A multitude bachelor and master courses are subject to admission restrictions, since the number applicants is invariably far greater than the number places available. Entry is therefore limited, and based on average marks achieved in the school or bachelor graduation certificate. 5. Studienkolleg The state government decided to close the state-run preparatory colleges (Studienkollegs) in North Rhine-Westphalia. There are only two private state-approved preparatory colleges. Living and fees A tuition fee presently ca. 260 per semester must be paid for the use social and student facilities (canteen, student hostels, membership to student union, special-rate student ticket for public transport in federal state North Rhine-Westphalia). Moreover, students are subject to compulsory health insurance which amounts to approximately 80 per month. Monthly costs living amount to at least 600 per month. 7. Accommodation Admission to Fachhochschule Dortmund does t guarantee accommodation. The student him/herself is responsible for finding a room. In Dortmund - as in all larger cities - the housing situation is tight. Most students halls residence have waiting lists. It is, therefore, advisable to start searching for accommodation immediately upon receipt the admission tice. It is worthwhile to address a request for housing to Studentenwerk http://www.stwdo.de/wohnen as well as to private housing companies. Further information you will find here: www.fh-dortmund.de/int_housing 8. Financing studies It is utmost importance that the student ensures financing studies prior to arrival in y. Fachhochschule Dortmund does t award scholarships. The diplomatic missions and consulates will provide information on scholarship awarding institutions, e.g. the DAAD ( Academic Exchange Service). The student residence permit includes a work permit for 120 days per year. 9. Entry regulations Independent whether you want to learn at first or to start directly with your bachelor studies in y, you have to apply via uni-asisst (see point 10). When uni-assist can confirm your high school entrance, they inform you and forward your application to Fachhochschule Dortmund. Please te, with the letter from uni-assist you can apply for visa in your country. The International Office Fachhochschule Dortmund will also send you an affirmation about receipt your application. Applicants for study programmes without NC will receive the admission letter after 15 th July, for NC courses studies in the middle February or August. Uni-assist needs for final processing all applications approximately 3 weeks after the deadline (15 th January or July). Applicants for the bachelor programmes Design and Architecture who want to learn first please contact the International Office. Admission letter from Fachhochschule Dortmund or ackwledgement application from uni-assist together with the pro sufficient financial means must be submitted to a diplomatic mission or consulate in his/her home country, in order to obtain a visa for study purposes. The aliens departments do t convert a tourist visa into a visa for study purposes. Different regulations apply to EU and EFTA nationals and citizens from Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Honduras, Monaco, San Mari and the USA.

Application for studies All applicants for a 1 st semester in a bachelor programme have to apply online via uni-assist (Service Centre for International Study Applications/ Arbeits-und Servicestelle für internationale Studienbewerbungen) www.uni-assist.de. Also graduates from a Studienkolleg in y must apply via uni-assist. Deadline for applications in winter are: 15 th July, in summer: 15 th January.
