INNOVATION: THE CONCEPT (1) To promote the autonomy of elderly people living in their own dwellings (homes, communities) by supporting demand driven solutions through quality and sustainable welfare systems The need to find innovative solutions to health and social services area. The main goal is to make the old people to live healthly and independently at home as long as possible, through better prevention, innovative home care, community-base solutions.

THE CONCEPT (2) INNOVATION IN THE SOCIAL SECTOR Innovative processes should lead to: New models of social protection New social relations New territorial networks The innovative models should get a step forward in terms of: Sustainability Solidarity (relations, behaviors, actions) Social Responsibility (co-operation, inclusiveness, openness, dialogue) CAPITALIZATION: policies review, laws renewal, financial resources refocus sing, services re-organization. Although not always possible a clear costs-benefits analysis

DIREZIONE CENTRALE SALUTE, INTEGRAZIONE SOCIOSANITARIA E POLITICHE SOCIALI Innovation in the regional social care system of Friuli Venezia Giulia The most recent regional plans and legislation have defined a model of integrated system of social and health services, strengthening the role of the Municipalities in managing integrated services: The promotion of home care is developed mainly through the partnership between Municipalities and Local Health Authorities. Innovative models for integrated care: multi-dimensional and cross-sectoral evaluation of needs, personal tailored project, integrated taking on. Innovative tools of local integrated health and social planning: Territorial activities Program (PAT) and Local Plan of social policy (PdZ, Piano di Zona) Integrated policies with research/innovation and housing sectors

HELPS PILOT ACTIONS Innovation in AAL solutions POLAND: facilitating ICT-based innovation in housing and care for elderly and disabled through AAL solutions The Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (Polish Academy of Sciences ) is developing new AAL solutions by applying a participatory research method. In fact, these innovative and needs-oriented solutions are being designed with extensive and direct participation of the end users elderly and disabled who undertake the role of expert designers, helping to improve fruition and functionality standards in accordance with the needs of the target group. AUSTRIA: AAL solutions in integrated supervised flats SLOVAKIA: intergenerational self-help groups at neighborhood level and AAL for informal care (tele-emergency service)

HELPS PILOT ACTIONS Innovation in INFORMATION & EDUCATION HUNGARY: professional training for informal caregivers The Municipality of Debrecen and the Maltese Charity Service focused their action on the importance and empowerment of informal care givers, by combining "on-field" training courses with online learning, through the realization of the innovative IT tool "Web Nurse" portal www.webnover.hu. SLOVENIA: open access to information The Info Point in the city of Ljubljiana, opened by ZDUS (Slovene Federation of Pensioners), celebrates its first year of activity. It provides thoroughinformation and counseling for elderly people and families about housing, home care solutions, better quality of life. CZECH REPUBLIC: innovative needs survey evaluation among elderly

HELPS PILOT ACTIONS Innovation in SOCIAL HOUSING GERMANY: for a better home-accessibility The Municipality of Leipzig offers a permanent exhibition on assistive solutions for elderly and vulnerable people. The exhibition includes a great variety of solutions for everyday life at home: from the bath-room settings to fully equipped kitchens. The local staff offer counseling to families on how to improve their own homes accessibility standards; moreover, they also offer precious assistance about budgeting and affordability of the costs. ITALY: private/public partnership for innovative housing models 2 experimentations in Trieste: an innovative co-housing solution, supported by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, foresees that beneficiaries sign a formal Commitment for Solidarity. On the other hand, the existing Montebello Residential Complex (in Trieste) is testing advanced integrated home-care and de-institutionalisation processes with the development of a stronger community-oriented network, thanks to the commitment of volunteering families and local associations.

Al servizio di gente unica Co-housing initiative in Trieste: implemented by ITIS, the global restructuring of the building is almost finished, with 17 flats, one public space at the ground floor, and a common space + terrace at the top floor Main elements: -the coexistence of different beneficiaries and different generations - independence and privacy are maintained (private flats) jointly with a shared commnunity living, with full accessibility criteria -Building up a supportive local network which will provide a monitoring service and the promotion of social relations, community development and informal care. - and the promotion of mutual informal services (mutual help and integrated aid) -set of criteria for informal care that will be included in a Solidarity Contract This project is implemented through the CENTRAL EUROPE Programme co-financed by the ERDF

Co-housing HELPS pilot support: Participatory process for the definition of needs and criteria of solidarity (selecting facilitators, publicity of the project and selection of the target group Focus gruops with beneficiaries and organizations staff for needs survey, criteria setting for social innovation and solidarity co-housing Definition of beneficiaries profile, planning and organizing mutual help activities, selecting actions for inter-generational integration Drawing the Solidarity Contract, definition of the model of co-housing, drafting the public call for beneficiaries This project is implemented through the CENTRAL EUROPE Programme co-financed by the ERDF
