LAVOSAR II European Reference Open Stard a Modern Integrated Electronic Mission System in Military L Vehicles Project Summary Inmation Background Contracting Agency: Contract Number Date: 3 May 05 European Defence Agency () 4.CAT.OP.053 Project Duration 3 Nov. 04-8 Feb. 06 Contact: Companies Involved: Dr. Norbert Härle (email: Norbert.Haerle@Rheinmetall.com) Fraunher Institute Communications, Inmation Processing Ergonomy (Germany) BAE Systems Bors (Sweden) Nexter Systems (France) Patria L Systems (Finl) Rheinmetall Defence Electronics (Germany) Rheinmetall L Systems (Germany) Selex ES (United Kingdom) Vectronics Research Centre (United Kingdom) The motivation this initiative is enable European member states increase mission efficiency, at the same time, save cost when procuring or upgrading military l vehicles. The progress in inmation technology applicable l vehicle mission systems is substantial fers the power provide better situational awareness faster, more efficient precise military effects. The complexity that enables such potential be realised must be managed through the stardisation architectural approaches relevant defence objectives. The first LAVOSAR study (L Vehicles with Open System,.R&T.OP.336) stated that a comprehensive stardised Open Reference missions systems military l vehicles will be key : cost-efficient acquisition through-life management

LAVOSAR II Project Summary Inmation 3 May 05 more efficient flexible use equipment, including provision future innovative improvements mission capabilities. Such an Open Reference is anticipated m the common basis from which new mission or vehicle-specific system solutions could be derived, thus sharing a greater number compatible elements in an extensible infrastructure. The first study was based upon relatively high-level operational views it identified concepts technologies applicable the on-board vehicle system, without specifying a full precise set stards be adopted as a reference. Interfaces with different innovation speeds, tactical ad-hoc local area network communications logistics maintenance aspects a future architecture were all recognised as requiring further investigation. Furthermore, during the course the first LAVOSAR study, the Generic Vehicle stardisation initiative NATO was endorsed; leading the recognition by joint stakeholders that future evolution mission system architecture by NATO will need be aligned. Against this background the motivation the proposed LAVOSAR II project is address the above identified gaps establish a more mature suite architectural stardisation materials complementary NGVA. Aim Figure Open View: Data Bus Centric Mission System Approach The LAVOSAR II project shall follow up on the results the first LAVOSAR study. Definition architectural domain such that a European approach covers a currently needed gap thus complements or contributes other current activities in the area. This architectural domain shall then be clearly related the domain the other activities. Page

LAVOSAR II Project Summary Inmation 3 May 05 Theree, a background material analysis which includes results from LAVOSAR I, NATO Generic Vehicle (NGVA), UK DefStan 3-09, Vicry, Scorpion, FACE other national programmes is required. The need additional architectural layers the LAVOSAR I architecture shall be identified defined. The benefits be gained the cost implementing shall be estimated. s required the Open Reference Stards LAVOSAR I shall be investigated based on specific European requirements. Especially: o Open Interface requirements that exist between disciplines different innovation speeds (mechanical, electrical stware), o Extensions the NGVA Data model data exchange cover European stards, o Gateways external communications, o Generic Data exchange between vehicles, typically different type, o Suggestion further international open stards needed. the defined operational workflows the LAVOSAR I study the logistic procedures the LAVOSAR I study. A roadmap shall be developed harmonise along the different vehicle types in the European Countries the data exchange procedures on Modification, Maintenance, Repair Overhaul with military civilian facilities. A roadmap shall be developed that shows future development NGVA how LAVOSAR II activities can contribute that development. Results the above stated work shall be malized in an architectural m data such that it is possible contribute the developed views the Reposiry. For this reason, technical support by the Chief Architect will be acquired needed. Figure Open View: Logistic Use-Case Example Page 3

LAVOSAR II Project Summary Inmation 3 May 05 Approach Figure 3 Open View: Logistic In Work Package, Domain Analysis Requirements clearly defines the Domain a European Open Reference Military L Vehicles the benefits which can be achieved. Theree, other relevant programmes activities are analysed the borderlines will be defined such that European nations can benefit from such an European. If necessary, additional layers the first LAVOSAR architecture will be identified defined. Further benefits be gained will be evaluated the cost implementation estimated. This Work Package builds the base all other Work Packages because it clearly defines the scope. In Work Package, Open Reference Stards, requirements specific Europe the applicability stards in the relevant architectural views are investigated. Especially, disciplines different innovation speeds, NGVA Data Model complementation, f vehicle communications are included gaps are identified where insufficient stardization exists. The stard lists from the first LAVOSAR study will be updated specific recommendations developed such that an input the EDSTAR portal will be possible. Wherever possible, the stards will be assigned the elements the architectural views in order illustrate where the stard applies. WP will run in parallel share inmation with linked activities WP 3 WP4. Work Package 3 addresses Workflows Procedure s is subdivided in the Operational Workflows Logistics Workflows. The Operational Workflows refine the Use Cases the first Page 4

LAVOSAR II Project Summary Inmation 3 May 05 LAVOSAR study (incl. logistic aspects) extend them Groupware aspects different roles also different vehicle types.. Logistic Workflows shall be developed refined based on the logistics domain which has been introduced in the first LAVOSAR study. Different logistic levels (incl. on-board diagnosis, maintenance, repair, overhaul, srage) will be specified acrs with their use cases developed. Work Package 4 Through Life Capability defines technical views the logistic procedures ( use cases) from WP3. Especially, different aspects data exchange procedures are analysed recommendations harmonisation given. Specifics military civil acrs will be evaluated considered. Issues such as data exchange procedures, data models, connecrs will be analysed concluding with a roadmap development implementation. As the intent the LAVOSAR is not fer a competing alternative NGVA but rather contribute, or complement NGVA, Work Package 5 Alignment with NGVA develops such a concept, identifies from the achieved results in LAVOSAR II potential contributions develops a roadmap based on the architectural domain from WP. This considers current developments on NGVA but may also include future developments, e.g. new editions the Stard. Page 5

LAVOSAR II Project Summary Inmation 3 May 05 Work Package 6 Contributions Reposiry is a Work Package which accompanies all other Work Packages mulates results in a mat such that they can contribute the Reposiry. First, inmation support from the Chief Architect will be requested the requirements such architecture will be analysed. Then, architectural views will be transmed as they are developed. At the end documentation will be generated the architecture will be hed over. Tight involvement the major stakeholders is intended by organising the required workshops briefings. As in the first LAVOSAR study, a Government will be organised during the first phase a second Industry after some more results are already available. The government will serve the acquisition requirements whereas the Industry is inm other industry get feedback. Several briefings will be given a selected audience as agreed with the Project Officer during the course the study. Page 6
