>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CoE Programs Student Leadership Research Students at the University of Michigan have many opportunities to participate in co-curricular leadership experiences that allow them to develop skills different from those in the classroom. These opportunities, whether found in mentoring others, student government, community service efforts, project teams or other areas, prepare students to face real-life challenges in business, community and personal relationships. Community Service U-M is nationally renowned for its dedication to community service. Throughout Washtenaw County and around the world, students and faculty are lending a hand to senior citizens, schoolchildren and the homeless, as well as to the human services agencies that help those in need. Project Teams Many of our students participate in student design contests which give them real-world experience with teams and the complete engineering process, from concept to finished product. The College enthusiastically supports this form of education with partial funding and the W.E. Wilson Student Team Project Center, a facility designed to support project teams. teamprojects.engin.umich.edu Research is a key component of the College s mission and permeates campus. The College of Engineering has exceptional disciplinary reach and is noted for its interdisciplinary research initiatives, partnering with faculty from across campus. Global Experience The International Programs in Engineering (IPE) and Engineering Career Resource Center (ECRC) offices work collaboratively to help students gain global internship experience during their academic careers. In addition to Work Abroad, the IPE offers study abroad programs and advising support for co-curricular activities such as volunteer projects and design work outside of the United States. The IPE manages the International Minor and intercultural opportunities such as the CoE International Buddy Program. The IPE staff members work closely with the CoE and other U-M faculty to coordinate student exchange partnerships and global research initiatives. workabroad.engin.umich.edu 4 Guide for Recruiters

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CoE Programs Multidisciplinary Design Program Program in Sustainability The Multidisciplinary Design Program (MDP) brings students together from across the University and provides them with a chance to develop their skills by working on realworld, multidisciplinary, team-based design projects. Whether through participation in Student Competition Teams, Faculty Research Teams, Student-led Initiatives or Corporate Partner Sponsored Projects, MDP student teams function cohesively to develop professional and technical skillsets while creating value through innovative design. mdp.engin.umich.edu Center for Entrepreneurship The Center for Entrepreneurship (CFE) connects current students with Michigan alumni in the start-up community, provides grants for students to pursue their own ideas for companies and products, and supports, simplifies and clarifies student intellectual property transfer processes for students and the broader community. The CFE also develops entrepreneurship focused academic programming, as well as coordinates activities with entrepreneurship student groups on campus. cfe.umich.edu The Program in Sustainable Engineering is an academic program that allows undergraduate engineering students to take 9 credit hours of courses focused on sustainability to earn the notation Program in Sustainable Engineering on their transcript. It is also connected to a master's program, outreach, and news feeds most relevant to engineers and technology enthusiasts. pise.engin.umich.edu Honors Program The Honors Program is a unique opportunity for highly-motivated engineering students to reach their full potential, both inside and outside of the classroom. Specialized academic requirements create an enriched learning environment that caters to the various disciplines of the College of Engineering. Honors students work closely with faculty and student mentors, facilitating strong intellectual bonds and personal growth. honors.engin.umich.edu Guide for Recruiters 5

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Co-op 2013-14 Cooperative Education The non-credit Cooperative Education (Co-op) Program enables students to alternate school and work terms and apply their skills to the work setting. In addition to providing a source of valuable talent, co-op students offer employers an opportunity to identify qualified candidates prior to graduation. Ideally, co-op is eightmonths of hands-on engineering experience, occurring either May through December or January through August.
