Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) Required Core & Elective Courses: 134 semester credits Contacts: contact@huniversity.net Tel: 515900 INTRODUCTION UNIVERSITY OF HARGEISA FACULTY OF ICT & DISTANCE LEARNING Final Curricula of Information Technology The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program of the University of Hargeisa is an eight-semester program designed to produce world-class IT professionals that is not only nationally competitive but also globally competitive and who will be professionally competent, morally upright, and socially responsible contributors to national development. The program is a study of the utilization and applications of computers and computer software to plan, install, customize, operate, manage, administer and maintain information technology infrastructure. It prepares students to be IT professionals well versed on application, installation, operation, development, maintenance and administration of IT hardware and software. The curriculum is based on the guidelines set by the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) IEEE Computer Society and is benchmarked from the curricula of leading academic institutions, regional and international, offering similar IT programs and addresses the needs of the industry. The standard length of the BSIT program is 8 semesters (36 months). It requires the full-time student to take an average of 6 courses (18 credits) per semester. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES The program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology has the following objectives: 1. To enable students to obtain a comprehensive knowledge and deep understanding of latest technology in information and communications. 2. To prepare students to be well versed on application, installation, operation, development, maintenance and administration of computer systems and databases and familiar with hardware installation, operation and maintenance. 3. To enable students to acquire the theoretical and practical skills needed to be globally competitive computer scientists. 4. To enable students to get a broad education in the arts and humanities, management, natural science and mathematics. 5. PROGRAM OUTCOMES From the educational objectives of its bachelor programs (described above), the faculty designed the programs to meet the following Program Outcomes, to ensure that its graduates have: 1. Apply knowledge of computing and mathematics for problem solving in the field of information technology. 2.
