Global ICT & Electronics Manufacturing Scenario Global Information, Communication Technology & Electronics (ICTE) sector is the largest and fastest growing Industry in the world. Global Electronics Hardware manufacturing is currently reported at USD 1750 billion and is expected to reach USD 2000 billion by 2014 and USD 2400 billion by 2020. * Source: Task Force Report

Software & Services and BPO Industry Global Perspective Global spending for Software & Services and BPO accounted for ~ US$1.0 trillion in 2009 India is regarded as the premier destination for the global sourcing. Global IT Sourcing - US$ 56-5858 billion (India s share 61%) Global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) - US$ 36-3838 billion (India s share 34%)

Indian Software & Services Industry and BPO Software & Services(incl. BPO) revenue has grown from US $ 39.4 billion in 2006-07 to US $ 63.7 billion in 2009-10, an increase of about 62 percent. BPO is the fastest growing segment within the Indian Software and Services sector. The delivery footprint of the Indian BPO sector now extends to over 75 cities across 25 countries outside India. A majority of the Fortune 500 and Global 2000 corporations are sourcing IT/ITES from India.

Indian Electronics Manufacturing Scenario Electronics hardware production: increased from Rs.43,800 crore (2003-04) and to Rs.97,260 crore (2008-09), with a cumulative annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.6%. Production growth during 2007-0808 was 27.8%, which declined to 15.2% during 2008-0909 and further to 13.0% during 2009-10, which is attributed to the global economic slowdown. Domestic production constituted around 1.31% of global production and around 2.00% of India s GDP. Human Resources Development To ensure availability of trained human resources for the manufacturing & service sectors of ICT &E industry to meet the demand forecasting. Identifying gaps emerging from the formal sector and organizing the programmes in non-formal/formal sectors to meet these gaps. Course structuring for Electronics & IT industry covering: (i) Non-formal IT-Training Training Sector; (ii) IT-enabled services BPO, Medical Transcription, Legal Transcription, Call Centers; (iii) Microelectronics & Nano-electronics; (iv) Software development, and (v) Bio-informatics informatics structuring & promoting of IT/BT Courses. National Skill Development in IT

National Skill Development Initiative Government of India has approved the Coordinated Action of Skill Development : Three tier structure set up: Prime Minister s s National Council on Skill Development National Skill Development Coordination Board National Skill Development Corporation National Skill Development Policy announced To create a pool of 500 million trained persons by the year 2022. DITs Target in NSDI is 10 million in ICT by 2022 500 million IT literates by 2022 10

Skill Development in IT Objective/Outcome: To create a pool of one crore trained persons by the year 2022 in line with the National Policy on Skill Development. Through a 3 pronged strategy: Scaling up of capacities of DOEACC Society to train 1 crore persons by 2022. Scaling up of capacities of CDAC to train 7 lakh persons by 2022. Financial Assistance to States/UTs for setting up of ICT Academies in each State/UTs

E-Infrastructure Initiatives Trans Eurasia Information Network Phase 3 (TEIN3) under EU Cooperation. Trans Eurasia Information Network Phase-3 (TEIN3) to link to European Research Network 2.5 G Europe to Mumbai and India - Singapore. Establishment of Bio IT Park To promote Bio-IT activities in the country, Professional manpower creation, R&D development in Bio-IT area, Knowledge sharing. Vocational Centers for Skill Creation for the Children with Disabilities in the area of Information Technology 50 ICT Vocational Centers for training the physically challenged children with ICT skills enabling them to seek employment and earn livelihood were set up. Establishment of Knowledge Data Center at Anna University Setting up of Information Technology Investment Regions (ITIRs) in the State of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa

Internet Proliferation & Governance - Initiatives Establishment of Internet Exchange Points (IXP) 7 hubs setup by the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) under the aegis of DIT in Mumbai, Delhi(Noida), Chennai, Kolkatta, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad. The hubs facilitate exchange of domestic Internet traffic between the peering ISP members. This enables more efficient use of international bandwidth, saving foreign exchange. It also improves the Quality of Services for the customers of member ISPs, by avoiding multiple international hops and thus reducing latency..in Registry NIXI is also the designated as the Registry for.in Domain Names.

Internet Proliferation and Governance Initiatives Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) Domain Names in non- ASCII Script - Domain Names are categorized as - Top-Level domains (TLDs) - generic and country code. Country Code Top Level Domain (cctld) Names in Indian Languages IDN cctld strings in 7 Indian languages and scripts sought by DIT, GoI have been accepted by ICANN The strings are now under evaluation for String Delegation in the root zone. Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) Secretariat of ICANN The GAC Secretariat is established in DIT, India and the website www.gac.icann.org is Operational. To provide inputs & support to 7 Working Groups of GAC viz. Policies for cctld Registries; Internationalized Domain Names (IDN); Generic Top Level Domains (new registry services, creation of new TLDs etc.); DNS Root Server system and DNS Security, etc. Initiation of R&D projects for Proliferation of Internet
