GE Healthcare supplied a web-based PACS and RIS solution to the Olympic and Paralympic Polyclinic for London 2012. GE Centricity RIS/PACS web solution was used to manage all the images and clinical data for competing athletes, enabling faster diagnoses as clinicians were able to access complete electronic patient records at the touch of a button helping to allow athletes to return to peak performance if they became injured during the competition. In addition, the CD Production Unit allowed athletes to take their images and reports home on CD after the Games. Dr Phil O Connor, Imaging Lead for the Olympic Games said before the events: GE s Centricity IT solutions will be invaluable in the busy environment of the Olympic and Paralympic Polyclinic, making a vital contribution to the medical team s ability to diagnose athlete injuries rapidly, administer the appropriate treatment and get them back into medal contention as quickly as possible. A new era of integrated collaborative care The healthcare industry is going through an unprecedented period of change with the NHS being called upon by government to deliver more and better quality with less. At GE Healthcare we understand the pressure this is placing on healthcare practitioners who are looking to increase efficiency and productivity in care delivery, without compromising quality. This calls for a new era of collaborative care which is an outcome-driven method of delivering healthcare requiring practitioners to integrate workflows, consolidate patient clinical information and collaborate with other healthcare experts across an enterprise or a community to provide quicker quality diagnosis. Enhance communication with referrers Web-based PACS allows improved communication with referrers, from GP s to other clinical specialties. Automatic email notifications tell them when their studies and reports are available and, with the click of a mouse, they can have quick access without additional costs. Teleradiology and consultation Web-based PACS facilitates consultation between radiologists and other specialties from virtually any location. The web-based system enables images and reporting to be integrated into multi-disciplinary meetings powering more patient-centered care models.. Did you know? In 2011, GE Healthcare installed its first full cloud PACS installation in Europe in Paris. Nine hospitals are already utilizing elements of the programme s cloud-based RIS, PACS, and archiving platform, with more than 20 additional hospitals scheduled to follow in the next two years. To date more than 1 million examinations, representing more than 42 terabytes, have already been stored on the platform. The Région sans Film (the filmless region) project, makes use of an exceptionally flexible software solution, combining multiple GE Healthcare products and a highly resilient cloud infrastructure provided by Orange.
