about the course Introduction Good corporate governance is not just the duty of Boards, it is the responsibility of everyone in your organisation. From discussions with Chairs and Chief Executives of public bodies, we have identified the need for a practical and structured training programme that will increase the knowledge and skills of those charged with making governance work in public bodies. Who should attend? The Certificate is aimed at staff who support the work of the Board or who have responsibility for governance or aspects of governance throughout the organisation but who have received no formal or structured training to carry out these important duties. It is expected that middle and senior managers (or aspiring managers) will benefit from this highly practical course. The course is also suitable for new or aspiring Board Members who have had no formal training but who would like to quickly increase their knowledge of important governance principles and enhance their skills for the Boardroom. Aims The overall aim of the programme is to increase skills and make governance more effective in organisations. Specifically, the programme seeks to: ensure that organisations are appropriately constituted, structured and operate the appropriate governance processes support good practice financial reporting as well as a system of internal controls exemplify standards of behaviour as a way of enabling good governance in organisations Accreditation and assessment Upon successful completion of the course and assessment you will be awarded CIPFA s Certificate in Corporate Governance, equivalent to NQF Level 3. Participants will be required to submit both a Portfolio of Evidence and a work-place based project that record evidence of learning during each module and aspects of work which substantiate their ability to undertake specific tasks. The assessors will mark a Portfolio of Evidence and a work-based project. This is designed to assess the extent of the participant s learning and satisfy the awarding body that the Portfolio of Evidence is a genuine reflection of his/her efforts. terms and conditions Standard terms and conditions of booking Booking Confirmation Bookings are accepted on a first come, first served basis. CIPFA will send you confirmation of your booking. It is the responsibility of the delegate to ensure they have received confirmation. Please take a few minutes to check the confirmation and contact us if you have any queries. In the unlikely event of non-receipt of confirmation, this will not be accepted as grounds for cancellation or non-payment. Attendance It is your responsibility to ensure that you attend all of the modules in the cohort you have signed up for, and complete all modules, project and portfolio with the timescales advised at the launch. CIPFA will not be held responsible if you are unable to complete all aspects of the certificated course within the cohort timescale. Any additional one to one or personal tuition may result in additional fees which will be advised in advance of the tuition taking place. Transfer Transfer to a future cohort will incur a deferment fee of 200 plus VAT and will be dependent upon both availability and viability. CIPFA cannot guarantee future delivery of any course. Dependent on availability, provision may be made for delegates to attend module(s) at another UK CIPFA Centre. In this case a nominal fee will be payable to cover incurred expenditure such as delegate venue costs. All additional expenses relating to attendance at another location will be your responsibility. Course Materials All course materials will be emailed one week prior to the delivery of the module. It is the responsibility of the candidate to print any course materials in advance of the module and to bring with them on the day. CIPFA will not provide any additional copies on the day. CIPFA will not be responsible for incorrect email addresses and candidates must ensure that they provide the correct email address when submitting their booking form for attendance on the certificate. Invoice Requests Please note that invoices will be sent after attendance at the launch, if payment has not already been received. Please ensure that you adhere to the payment terms as stated on the invoice. Cancellation Notification of cancellations must be received in writing 4 weeks prior to the first module of the course date to qualify for a refund of fees. All cancellations must be sent to the CIPFA office by email (scotland@cipfa.org) or in writing to the office address stated below. Substitution may be advised within the 4 week period prior to the first module at no extra charge. Substitutions will not be accepted after the first module has been completed. CIPFA reserves the right to cancel the event at anytime and will offer refunds on any payments that have been made. CIPFA will not cover any travel/accommodation cost incurred in the event of cancelling/postponement of course/s. Data Protection Information provided in the booking form is held on our database and is used to communicate future information on events and other CIPFA products and services to you and your organisation. If you wish to be removed from our database or would like your details update, please send a note of your requirements to the office address stated below.
