What is an EAP? An employee benefit which provides confidential counseling and/or consultation for a variety of issues that may cause you concern. 1

When to Talk to an EAP Counselor Emotions feel unwieldy Use of drugs/alcohol to cope Reckless behavior Decrease in work performance Interpersonal difficulties Disrupted sleep Changes in appetite Suicidal thoughts When you are anxious or concerned about any situation 3

Eligibility Who is eligible to use the program? Employees Dependents Your household members 4

Confidentiality Participation in the EAP is confidential, except when release of information is mandated by ethical practice and applicable state or federal law. These situations include: If a caller reports to us any knowledge or suspicion of child or elder abuse or neglect If a caller threatens to harm him or herself or others When an employee signs a Release of Information form When a court issues an order to release information 5

How Much Does It Cost to Use the EAP? The EAP is free of charge and does not cost members anything to use There is no out of pocket expense Up to six (6) sessions per issue, per year (e.g., stress, relationship, legal, mental health, grief, etc.) 6

Who Are the Counselors & What Are Their Credentials? Masters or PhD level Clinicians: Social Workers Psychologists Marriage and Family Therapists Clinical Professional Counselors Minimum of three to five years experience Licensed by the state to practice 7

Legal Consultation & Referral Services Complexities surrounding marriage, custody and child support issues, elder care, financial, credit and tax related issues can add to stress in the lives of employees and their family members. The American Bar Association reports that during a 12-month period, over half the employees in a typical workforce will experience a legal or financial issue involving life-events such as marriage, birth, illness, renting an apartment, purchasing a home, or experiencing credit issues. Almost one half of the employees who do take unscheduled time off of work do so to deal with legal or legal-related problems. Approximately 70% of the population does not seek legal consultation due to fear of cost. 8

Legal Resources Your EAP provides the following legal assistance: Free 30 minute in person or telephonic legal consultation with a local attorney who has an expertise in your matter 25% reduction in fees if you choose to retain the attorney Common legal issues include: Divorce Custody and visitation Bankruptcy Estate planning Eldercare obligation Adoption Child support Guardianship Consumer complaints Traffic Violations 9

Financial Consultation & Referral Services Financial burdens can add stress to the lives of employees and their dependents. The financial services component of the EAP allows employees and their dependents to determine the most appropriate way to manage their financial situation. Services include: A 30 minute consultation with a financial professional with experience in the area of concern, and referrals to additional services as needed. Common issues include: Credit Issues Tax Questions and Planning Family Budgeting Financial Planning 10
