Benefits of upgrading to Vault 11 This document describes the new s and benefits that are available to existing customers who upgrade to Vault 11. Upgrading to the latest version can provide benefits in key areas, including Improved end-user experience, Reduced total cost of ownership, and Get ready for the future. The following tables describe the in each of these key benefit areas. Improved end-user experience Vault Search replaces three legacy search applications: Archive Explorer, Browser Search, and Integrated Search. It gives end users all the browse and search capabilities that are available in those applications, but the interface has been thoroughly reworked for ease of use and to provide fast access to archived information. Vault Search IMAP client access Unified Outlook client Outlook 2011 for Mac Mac OS X Virtual Vault Client language Vault Install Launcher Existing Exchange mailbox archives can be enabled for IMAP access so that users can access the content of their archives from any IMAP-enabled client or device. For users of other mail services, Internet mail archives can be created that are also accessible using IMAP. A single Outlook Add-In replaces the Outlook Add-Ins and includes all the functionality from both clients in earlier versions of Vault. The unified Outlook Add-In uses HTTP-based communication with Vault servers. It can work in full mode or light mode: the full and light functionality correspond to the Outlook Add- In and the HTTP-Only Outlook Add-In in previous releases. Mac users now have an Vault client for Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac. The Vault Client is ed on client computers that run Mac OS X version 10.7 (Lion), 10.8 (Mountain Lion), and 10.9 (Mavericks). Virtual Vault s items that are encrypted using Entrust. Hungarian and Brazilian Portuguese are included in the list of available client languages. The Vault media includes Install Launcher, a menu system that guides you to the various installers, documents, and links that are available. End users benefit from much-improved search facilities, including: o Both simple and advanced query builders. o The option to save frequently-used queries and mailbox folders in a favorites list for one-click access. o Hit highlighting in the results grid and reading pane enables users to locate all the hits quickly. Easily-deployed policies give administrators more control over the search facilities that they extend to end users. Once enabled for IMAP access, users of both Exchange mailbox archives and Internet mail archives can use their IMAP devices to view and search archived content, and to reply to and forward items. IMAP users can also archive new content from their devices, either manually or by using client rules. You no longer need to decide which Add-In to install on users desktops. Outlook 2010 and 2013 users working in full mode can: o View and change Vault mailbox and folder properties. o When they restore items, choose to restore to the same folder as the shortcut, or to the Restored items folder, or to a specific destination folder. o When they store items, select a vault and a retention category. This client offers seamless access to archived mail and helps to eliminate the need for mailbox quotas. Kerberos authentication between the Vault client and the Exchange and Vault servers is ed. Mac OS X users in an Vault environment can take advantage of the latest Apple operating systems. In earlier releases, archived items that were encrypted using Entrust Entelligence Security Provider 9.n could not be displayed when retrieved from Virtual Vault. Language for end users is extended. You no longer have to navigate around the installation disc to install software, or to find links to documentation, technical notes, business, and Symantec partners. Install Launcher smooths the installation and upgrade experience both for administrators and for end users installing an Vault client. Edition 1.0 1 Last updated: February 2014

Reduced total cost of ownership A SCOM Management Pack provides detailed monitoring and status information for Vault server components, in a clear hierarchical layout. SCOM pack with improved monitoring PST file migration Storage queue Data Classification Services Automatic reports for Exchange Mailbox Improved event log message Help links Event filtering Indexing exclusions Enhanced PST migration tools make it even quicker and easier to locate and submit PST files for migration into Vault. You can now configure each vault store so that Vault keeps the safety copies on a storage queue. This provides instant mailbox quota relief by enabling Vault to remove items from the original locations as soon as they have been archived. Data Classification Services (DCS) analyzes Exchange email content and metadata to help determine the and retention strategy for messages. After DCS has applied classification tags to the messages, users of Compliance Accelerator and Discovery Accelerator can use the tags to filter messages when they conduct searches and reviews. DCS adds context and relevance to corporate information and enables you to automate decisions based on the value of the information. Exchange mailbox tasks now generate a report automatically for every run, showing exactly what has been archived, and why. You can view reports from the Reporting tab of the mailbox task s Properties page. No additional configuration is required. The Help links in Vault s event log messages now use Symantec s Unique Message Identifier (UMI) format. Vault can filter the events it generates to suppress repeats of events that have already been logged recently. You can configure the event filtering as required. You can specify email content that you do not want Vault to index, such as email disclaimers and corporate email signatures. The SCOM pack makes it easier to monitor the health of your Vault system and to identify the root causes of errors. Monitoring of the following areas is greatly enhanced: backup state, disk space, database connectivity, server state, and Vault Store state. Depending on your chosen policy settings, users whose mailboxes are enabled for client-driven PST migration can now display a list of the PST files on their computers, choose the ones to migrate into Vault, and select the required retention category in each case. You can now specify paths that you want to include or exclude when searching for PST files on both client computers and file servers. In the Vault Administration Console, all the nodes under the Personal Store Management node now have a status dashboard view. You can export a report of the contents of these dashboards to a CSV or HTML file. You can now filter the displayed information in the various nodes under the Personal Store Management node. You can now configure the types of email notifications to send to users when various PST migration events occur. Storage space in the original location is recovered quickly without compromising data security. You no longer have to wait for items to be backed up before deleting the originals. The location of the safety copies is configurable. DCS policies become a searchable facet in Compliance and Discovery Accelerator, speeding up the search and review process. DCS provides more granular control and flexibility over the identification, retention, and deletion of information. Data privacy concerns are alleviated with the ability to identify and flag email with private and sensitive information. You can leverage previously created Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies to help speed up deployment and ensure classification consistency with information management and DLP. The Exchange Archiving reports help you to spot potential Exchange problems, organize workloads, and plan changes. Brief and full HTML reports are available, with the full report also downloadable in CSV format for use with Excel. If a Symantec Support knowledge base article exists for the error code associated with an event, the Help link takes you directly to it. If no directly related article exists, you are taken to an appropriate search page. Event filtering makes it easier to interpret the logs, and reduces log file size. Excluding unwanted content from the Vault indexes improves the quality of searches and reduces the number of false positive hits in discovery or compliance review sets. Edition 1.0 2 Last updated: February 2014

Discovery Accelerator users can run searches based on content for a single custodian or set of custodians. (A custodian is someone who has been identified as having potentially relevant information to a case.) Custodian-based searches SWID tagging Get ready for the future Social media Vault installs software identification tags (SWID) tags based on the ISO/IEC 19770-2:2009 standard. Search performance is improved by narrowing the scope of the search to those custodian archives relevant to the case. You can quickly find all information across email, SharePoint, files, Instant Messages, and so on, based on custodian. You can target searches to a single custodian or subset of custodians, for increased search precision and recall. SWID tags enable asset management tools to identify systems that have Vault components installed, which can lower the overall cost of ownership. Social media lets you archive, index and discover corporate social content from a large number of content sources including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, with Vault and integrated partners such as Actiance, Globanet, Hanzo, and Socialware. Vault Extensions Migration to the cloud 64-bit index and search engine, plus enhanced index administration Improved virtualization Support for additional SharePoint content types Support for the latest releases from Microsoft and Domino Symantec Technology Enabled Program (STEP) partners can develop integrated solutions for content that the standard Vault release does not. Vault storage migrators let you migrate archived data to the cloud using any of these storage solutions: Amazon S3 Storage AT&T Synaptic Storage as a Service Rackspace Cloud Files The 64-bit indexing engine lets you take advantage of both scale-up (more memory) and scale-out (additional hardware) architectures. New archived content is stored in 64-bit index volumes, with seamless access to existing 32-bit indexes. Index administration utilities have been dramatically improved. Vault is VMware Ready, denoting VMware s highest level of endorsement for products and solutions created by its established partners. The Vault Administration Console identifies virtualized Vault servers using a different icon, and provides links to best practice guidelines for implementing Vault on VMware. You can archive additional SharePoint content types including Announcements, Blogs, Contacts, Custom Lists, Discussion Boards, Issue Tracking, Links, Tasks, and Wikis. Microsoft has recently released major upgrades to Windows and Windows Server, and new versions of Microsoft Exchange and Office. IBM continues to release new versions of Domino. For any organization interested in capturing social media content for discovery or compliance, this capability prepares you for FINRA 10-06 and other social media regulations. You can archive and discover social content along with email, SharePoint, file system, and other information. Captured content and associated metadata and links are included in search and ediscovery requests. You can store, manage, and discover additional content sources with Vault. Many extension solutions are already available. See http://go.symantec.com/archive-anything for details. You can use the cloud to provide secondary storage for infrequently accessed data, reducing storage costs. Integration is simple, automated, and policy-based. The engine adds flexible configuration options and improves search for end users, Compliance Accelerator, Discovery Accelerator, and the Clearwell ediscovery Platform. Searches are federated between 32-bit and 64-bit index volumes automatically, meaning no forced index upgrades. The enhanced index management and monitoring tools help maintain index health and guide upgrades to 64-bit indexes. Vault is certified to meet VMware s own integration and interoperability standards. The best practice guidelines enable you to run Vault virtualized with practically no loss of performance. Migration to virtual servers helps to reduce the total cost of ownership of Vault. You can maximize the benefits of virtualization to achieve server hardware consolidation, improved server utilization, and improved server and application management. You can install and manage Vault on virtual servers more easily. You can archive more SharePoint content for discovery or compliance. Use Vault with the latest technologies: o Microsoft Exchange 2013, Outlook 2013, SharePoint 2013 o Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 o Domino 9.0 Edition 1.0 3 Last updated: February 2014

Archiving (FSA) Solutions Double-Take Availability for Windows replication software. FSA s from Windows Server 2012 file servers. You can extend File System Archiving to Windows Server 2012 file servers. to Domino to SharePoint Reduced SQL privilege requirements for the Vault Service account Product Improvement EVSVR improvements Retention FSA s, including placeholder shortcuts, from Server Core installations of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012. FSA no longer requires the Vault Service account to be a member of the Local Administrators group on Windows file servers. Before it creates an archive for a folder path, FSA now checks whether any archives are already associated with the path. Domino/Notes 8.5.3 and 9.0 are ed. The 64-bit version of Domino is ed on the Vault Domino Gateway, in addition to the 32-bit version. Domino custom filtering is now extended to user mail files. Domino language is expanded to provide English-only (en-us) extensions for the following languages: Arabic Catalan Czech Finnish Greek Iberian Portuguese Kazakh Norwegian Slovakian Slovenian Thai Turkish In SharePoint libraries that require users to check out files before they can edit them, Vault can now replace the files with shortcuts. Specifying retention categories for SharePoint rules is now ed. Vault databases now contain a set of roles that enable you to assign to the Vault Service account only those SQL privileges that are required to run Vault. The optional Product Improvement collects configuration data from the installation and sends it to Symantec securely and anonymously for analysis. You can now enable checkpointing for most EVSVR operations. Checkpointing causes EVSVR to create snapshots of the current state of an operation as it progresses. New Administration Console settings let you manage the retention of moved or deleted items. You can extend File System Archiving to Windows Server Core installations. You can perform File System Archiving from domain controllers and from other file servers where local Administrator rights are not permitted for a service account. FSA prevents a duplicate archive from being created if an archive has previously been created on the same folder path. Support for Domino/Notes users is extended. Domino version is extended. You can customize how Vault processes specific messages in the mail files of users in an Vault provisioning group. You can use Vault s English Domino extensions with Domino servers that have these languages installed. You can now increase your storage optimization savings by creating shortcuts for files in all site libraries not just the files in libraries that do not have a check-out requirement. You can now specify retention categories for SharePoint rules based on the content type, metadata, or file type or size attributes. This facility enables granular retention based on the SharePoint objects metadata. You can increase database security by limiting the Vault Service account s SQL privileges. By opting in to this you can help to improve the quality of Vault. You can choose to receive emails from Symantec relevant to your Vault installation, such as white papers. If an EVSVR operation is stopped or fails for any reason, you can continue it from the latest checkpoint instead of having to restart it from the beginning. Vault can be configured so that, when an item is moved between folders in Exchange that have differing retention periods, the longer of the two periods is retained. You can configure retention categories to allow deletion through expiry but to disallow end-user deletions. Edition 1.0 4 Last updated: February 2014
